Prohibit Derogatory Labeling in Forums

People on these forums like to use words such as "granker" and "griefer". These terms have been too liberally used IMO; often used to refer to anyone who kills another player's ship, for whatever reason. The result is that they are practically meaningless terms now and serve only to bait and badger other forum members.

Perhaps it is time to enforce not using these and related terms in forum discussions.

there will always be ganker and greifers in the game so this is something frontier will never enforce, and those terms are hardly derogatory, even murder hobo is a perfectly valid identifier.

Think the OP is more talking about trying to have the use of "Ganker" and "Griefer" be restricted to actual casing of Ganking and Griefing.

In my time of this forum I see people use a lot of terms to deride point of views they don't like.

For example I have been called a wantabe Griefer for being pro Open but at the same time called a carebear for preferring PvE and co op, just as being told I must be a no life mum's basement dweller when I was happy with the time investment in exploration and Guardian missions but then called a Forum Dad casual instawin player for being pro Mutlicrew telepresence fast action.

So as the OP said using those label just shut down communication rather than actually allowing a discussion as by using them against those that disagree is just a way of saying "you are on of them, so your view doesn't matter"

I at the same time, even though it gets used alot, there are ways to identify actual gankers and greifers and those that are just playing the criminal activities of the game as is.
theres still nothing signifigantly derogatory about greifer or ganker and it hardly needs discussion when the world has a far wider list of words that the mass populous considers derogatory

I know where you're coming with this, but tbh I would rather let it continue.

It makes it easier to recognise the clued-in from the clueless.

Oh dear the word police has arrived, please give us a list of ALL the words that trigger you, I also expect you to ask me for a list of all words that trigger me, then I expect you to ask ALL foreigners for a word list that triggers them, Then I expect you to ask ALL different cultures for a word list that triggers them, then I expect you to ask the LGBT community for a word list that triggers them, Then I expect you to ask FDev developers for a word list that triggers them, then I expect you to ask female players for a word lsit that triggers them, and last but not least, I expect you to ask the Males of Elite for a word list that triggers them.

Please memorise the above and a oral test will be given to ensure compliance.

Yep, censoring words is the way to go. I really miss those cozy dark middle ages.
I have a long list of dangerous words too. I also want to censor specific letters. I hate vowels.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"

I think that's a rather famous quote regarding free speech.
Neither carebear nor griefer is an insult strong enough to warrant censorship on this forum.
So respectfully, no.

It's worth considering, that you can, using a polite vocabulary, talk and write about all sorts taboos like our inevitable mortality, however, if you use a wrong combination of letters describing the human reproduction process, all hell breaks loose. Most people like the reproduction process, at least for a couple of minutes, but still the F-word is enough to get you kicked from most debates.

I hate when people argue by saying "I simply don't understand why bla bla bla". Ignorance is not a strong argument, but I honestly don't understand that some words are so disgusting to some that they are prohibited to the rest of us.

Simply ignore it and make the person spouting the insults harm their own arguement by looking like a tool. Facts and well reasoned debate will always incinerate low level jibes which are trotted out to provoke people and are barrel scraping desperation.

You just need to understand forum lingo, here's a handy guide :

Ganker, griefer, carebear, coward : Person(s) whose game menu choices differ slightly from my own some of the time.

White knight : person who isn't very angry indeed about a trivial game issue I am disproportionately furious about currently.

Game is Doomed : I'm unhappy so everyone else should be as well.

Lazy game design : I did no research before buying this product.

Grind : I do things the most boring way possible then complain about it.

Not recommended : 6000 hours in game.

The word "gank" has its roots in violent street crime. If the word upsets you complain about it based on that. Hardly the kind of thing a family friendly game would want to be assosiated with :)

Nailed it. Especially that last one.

Normally I would agree with you. In fact, I've used a similar argument with Frontier moderators over on the Steam forums who have banned people for using these terms. It was a moderator who told me these terms are derogatory. So I think the same should be done here. Consistency.
