A nice update. Thanks.

I am little concerned that FD have taken some outside investors on board to increase the funding because we simply don't know what sort of influence these investors will have on the game design.

If DB could confirm that they will have no influence on the game design then I would be happy.

It would be interesting to know if the 1.5 million raised just from public interest has motivated investors to want to give money to FD.

:)

Oh, and awesome update, FD!

Sad to hear that the sweaters are in retirement for six months though.

Alas am not in the DDF

No need to be in the DDF for to read the discussions. Everyone can read the discussions of DDF. I'm not in the DDF but I can read.

but that sounds intriguing about the minutes of the Artists, can you say what that is?...no worries if not :)

I want say the conclusions drawn by the artist on each subject, after discussions by the DDF members. What is decided by Frontier ultimately for each subject. For example, crime, shields, hyperspace jump, ranking Elite, trade ect ... I think the artist gives technical richness and depth to the game to come. Look in the archives of DDF, the reports of Sandro Sammarco, Dan Davies, Mike Evans ect ...

;)

I expressed myself badly especially at the beginning. Yes, you understood,
is the Design Discussion Archive (as said Slawkenbergius). We see in this forum, this is serious, this is sturdy.

:)

The sweaters are only in retirement for summer...

It's summer!?

I've still got the sweater on, heater on, windows closed, wrapped in a duvet. It'd be nice to see a double-digit number on the thermometer at some point.

(Okay, it's gone up to 15 a few days, and Monday was a bit of a freak, but other than that...)

I TOTALLY loved the Imperator in the background of that update video. Such a GOOD job done with that, I seriously cannot wait to see it in the flesh. Keep up the good work FD!

I'm not at all worried about the news of outside investors. I trust in David and FD and know that they would never allow sponsors to influence how the game is shaped. Remember that David said that the sponsors shared FD's views on how the game would be made so it would have definitely been on FD's terms.

This game is developing well and shaping up to be something immense.

I think this is going to be the greatest game development of all time.
I believed that once the kickstarter went successfully reached some kind of unsustainable pressure would be rised to disturb the team.
I am happy to see that there is no signs of that.
Contrariwise, the team seems to be very relaxed and very confortable in what they are goin to do. That is absolutely great.
It means that they will do a lot of things at the best of their mind potentials.
A proof of what i say is visible even now:a lot of great ideas periodically declared in the youtube videos and a lot of wonderful ships designs and concepts.

You're doing well FD ... please continue in this way. :)

One of the things I love about the whole approach to ED is the sense of scale. Seeing that massive star ship behind David in the new video, kinda reminds of me of the huge scale of ships in Star Wars. Remember when Princess Leia's ship was overwhelmed (as were we) by the Star Destroyer at the beginning of A New Hope?

Flying along one of those huge capital ships, make me giddy in the same way. The idea that ships might have bumps and scraps perhaps even individual looks to them, as you fly by you get an idea of what this ship has been through, some of hints of its past glories and near scrapes, would be impressive.

The investment allows us to continue development of the game beyond the initial release. It doesn't change the game we are making.

I am not concerned at all by the external investment, I think it's brilliant and will help to make ED the best game it could possibly be. I'm pretty sure that FD will keep the creative side of things completely seperate to the business side.

I'm actually happy that you have taken this approach instead of trying to milk the Kickstarter crowd of every penny they can be made to part with (like some other Kickstarters out there).

Of course, you might have had the option to start selling quality mouse mats with elite art etc. little items to raise cash, but I guess that would have diverted your attention from what you should actually be doing. ;)

Physical item rewards on kickstarter actually are harmful - there are plenty of kickstarter projects that had to blow most of their KS-money just to fulfil the promised rewards...

In this day and age, it is actually harder to convince publishers (whether of games or books) to take that risk on your idea. If a successful Kickstarter is what it takes to prove to an investor (whether it is a publisher or a private individual) to invest money to help the game get made, then great.
