PS4 Camera head tracking or PSVR support PLEASE

I played Elite Dangerous a lot on my PC until my gaming rig kicked the bucket. I won't be getting a new one but I want to play this on PS4. That said, I am dismayed at the lack of head tracking support. Using the sixaxis or an analogue stick isn't going to cut it, especially since I'll be using a HOTAS.

We REALLY need some support for head tracking beyond the existing methods. I know that PSVR support is something Frontier is "considering" and that the main issue is quality... but can we at least know if we can expect it by end of year? If not PSVR support how about just PS4 camera support like Warthunder PS4 uses? IMO head tracking should be the number one priority for sims because it dials the immersion factor to 11.

Performance is likely an issue otherwise it would probably be working by now when coming to PSVR, the playstation simply isn't powerful enough.

I think that's false. I believe the reason it isn't implemented is because it's a risk factor. The R&D cost to implement the PSVR needs to have a payoff, and at this point it's likely the due to the game being a niche title combined with PSVR sales not being anything stellar ( :p ) that would blunt efforts to make it a selling point for the game at this time. With CCP shutting down the studio that developed the various EVE PSVR titles, it definitely can be seen as a red flag and a warning to those developers looking to invest heavily into VR and have it bite them in the . This can turn around if we get more VR titles actually worth a damn. When it comes to Elite, the upcoming Ace Combat game may be the best point of reference for Fdev to decide if they want to commit to it or not.

Definitely can happen, but it is a wise decision on Fdev's part not to make the attempt just yet. I think it will happen, just a matter of feeling out when the situation improves for VR. Sony could always drop the price point by 20-25% as well in the future.

Have we given up on Head Tracking? Are we ever gonna get some new feature (one of those listed here) or can we now put a gravestone on them?

I've given up on there being any new PS4-specific features (or bug fixes FTM). I sometimes wonder if ED even has a PS4 development team these days, or if those developers all moved over to JWE...

I think FDev has and is doing a good job on ED. People need to understand it takes a long time to fix specific glitches that only a small percentage of people had. For example it took nearly 3 years for WarFrame to fix a glitch I had which no one I played with ever had happen to them. So give FDev some slack.

I have yet to read or hear that head tracking for ps4 is a complicated or financially difficult endeavour.
Yet, still, we have no head tracking.
I honestly had no idea about and couldn't imagine Frontiers lack of love for the consoles. If i did, I would have stuck with the pc version.

I for one would buy PSVR if Elite supported it. Just for that.

But after all this time it's probably not going to happen.

If they brought even head tracking that would be amazing. But then there would need to be an officially licensed head tracking peripheral manufactured to support it. Can't see that happening either.

:(

It is a (tiny) bit embarrassing that one of the best VR games on pc is Elite and yet ps4 version doesn't support psvr. Hope is fading, I think.

They wouldn't. There is the Playstation Camera which could do the job just fine. It would only take some work for FDev to make it work. So yeah, not happening.

I might be wrong but I thought most head tracking solutions required something on the wearer's head for the camera to 'track'. Like the home brew IR solutions you can build yourself for PC using IR LEDs and a PS3 camera. If this was required it'd be a £15 job but the road block would be Sony licensing. So make that £35 then :D

The camera used by the PSVR already tracks the lights on the outside of the HMD and controllers, so there's no reason it couldn't just track the lights on a headband.

yeah - head tracking without requiring PSVR was what I was hoping for. So if indeed PSVR is not ever going to "be a thing" for ED on PS4, there's no reason head tracking need not "be a thing" for ED on PS4, other than the requirement for a camera (one exists for PS already) and something attached to the head for the camera to track (...).

Personally I don't think either will "be a thing" with ED on PS4.
