Thrustmaster 16000m FCS was not recognized

That's a shame, the T16000m is s'pose to be a great stick (I been thinking about getting one).
War Thunder on PS4 works well with a variety of controllers, but it took a looong time and many patches for it to get there. Hopefully ED will get better stick support soon.

I use my Saitek x52 on the PC when I played ED (not played for ages though as PC is borked). Playing with the TM HOTAS on PS4 and it's a heap of junk compared to the x-52. Really hope they add support for more flight sticks.

What's interesting is that I fired up War Thunder a moment ago and could bind controls to the X56, so to me it's not a case of the PS4 not supporting it, it's a case of Frontier not supporting it as I cannot see any other way of saying it because it works on one game on the ps4 but not on another.

Would really like to see what people think about that, as for those who want to try it War Thunder is free so you can simply download and install it, then connect you hotas etc to the ps4 and see if it's recognised but as it stand's the X56 works with the ps4 just not in Elite.

The key word is free, the game is so bad that sony gives it away free. By only allowing offical licensed aftermarket devices, sony makes money. Wanna be sucessfull at bussiness in this day and age, always follow the money. At the present one can only buy a couple of items from sony in regards to ED, in the future, they will add more. Why, when one has to have a Frontier account and can purchase items, would sony want to, answere, they get a bigger slice of the profits.

The same reason that cross play isn't allowed, the technology is here, but there's no money to be made. In order to turn a profit, when you have a competitor. You have to offer products that are conducive to your way, not the competitor. Thus sony doesn't make a penny if you are going to utilize your own stick, but utilizing their official licensed stick makes them money. It's not personal, it's bussiness.

You know War Thunder is free on PC as well and from what I can tell Sony has nothing to do with it, other than I believe have console exclusivity.

As for Cross Play that is down to Sony not wanting to allow kids to play games with adults where they can be exposed to mature content in party chats and text chat if available, or atleast that is what I can make out from the interview that someone from Sony did the other week.

Just like Microsoft won't allow Cross Play on games unless they can force people to use the controller instead of K/M, Joystick, Wheels and many other devices because it can give an advantage to those players on PC.

Also War Thunder can be used with pretty much any USB Control Device from what I have seen on the War Thunder forums when I was looking in to what was supported on the PS4 and what wasn't which is why I tried my X56, X55, Thrustmaster TFlight Hotas X and an old Cyborg Flight Stick, they all worked with War Thunder except I didn't try the flight stick on it's own but none of them work with Elite.

The support for other HOTAS Setup's is already there in the PS4 as seen by the fact that they work on other games, it's just that in Elite they don't work for what ever reason which is why I won't be going out and buying a Hotas just for Elite on the PS4, when I already have one that cost me £140 that should work with it.

Wow you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about do you? The developers of Warthunder are the ones that have worked hard to get as many different HOTAS setups working on their PS4 version. It has nothing to do with Sony. X52 works perfect on it (I've tested it). This is a matter of Frontier working to get these different HOTAS setups working, and nothing to do with Sony.

So, I have a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS that works fine on my Mac copy of ED. I've downloaded the PS4 version too, but can't get the HOTAS to work on the PS4. I've plugged it in, tried pressing the green / red light, tried all the buttons, but nothing. I can't get the PS4 or ED to recognise it. What am i doing wrong? If you are successfully using a T-Flight on your PS4 with ED, how did you do it?

I find the game basically unplayable with a Dualshock, so am quite keen to get the HOTAS working on PS4 - any assistance gratefully received.

I use the Hotas 4 and this is how I start up:

A) Make sure Hotas is plugged in to PS4
B) Turn on PS4 w DualShock
C) Activate the Dual Shock to your account
D) Press the red button on the Hotas and activate it to your account
E) Open Elite Dangerous App using the Hotas

Good Luck!

Edit - Are you using the old Hotas X or the newer Hotas 4? It could make a difference, I dunno :S

"a Thrustmaster T-Flight" won't work, I presume you use the "X" version (PS3/PC) ?
Only the "4" version (PS4/PC) works in Elite on PS4 (at the moment, perhaps things'll change).

For the rest, see steps A-F in the two posts above.

Keep it civil people or I will ask this thread to be locked.

What people who are asking for other joysticks to be supported don't seem to be appreciating are two simple points (and I won't be debating these);

1. Sony only officially support one HOTAS
2. Adding support for another HOTAS costs developer time which is an expensive and relatively rare commodity which can be better spent elsewhere

Exactly.

Now I am not a game developer and wouldn't have a clue where to start, although I would love to be able to develop games but really who wouldn't.

I will just say this and then I am going to try and keep myself away from thread's about HOTAS's until Frontier mention what the reasoning behind it is.

With consoles a lot of the time, certain devices will work natively with them but because they have no official support some/most developers choose not to support them, now whether this is because that developer want's people to use a specific control setup or if it would cause to many issues and/or take to much time to test and configure the game to work with multiple different control inputs then you are left with normally just the controller.

With the PS4 you can use pretty much any USB Keyboard/Mouse, Joystick, Hotas and I think wheel and pedals since the PS4 appears to treat them like a PC would as just a generic USB Control Input Device, the only issue with them is that they are "Officially" not supported although they will work.

Now we know that multiple different joystick's and hotas's will work with the PS4, that is not a question that needs answering, and we know that multiple different types of keyboards and mice work with the PS4 and again that question doesn't need answering.

The question that a lot of people would like answering is why the joystick's and hotas's do not work with Elite on the PS4?

Now here is what I think and this is my personal opinion and I wouldn't quote me on it because it could be miles from what the actual reason is.

I believe that because there is only the one hotas that has "Officially" been supported by Sony that Frontier have removed the ability for the game to use anything but the standard controller, any USB keyboard and the Hotas 4 since I do not believe that Frontier have developed the PS4 version from the ground up, and I believe it's a port of the PC version and then tweaked to work on the PS4 but as I say I am not a developer so I don't know exactly what goes in to it.

So if Frontier have removed the ability then it's one of two things again in my opinion, either they only want to support the "Official" control options or they have a deal with Thrustmaster to lock it to only that one hotas, I generally believe that it's the first and not the 2nd option.

I also believe about 80% that the support has been removed from the game to support 3rd party hotas setup's, and that maybe it will be added back in the future but I just don't know.

For me now I am getting more and more use to the controller, but it will never be anywhere near as good as using my X56 or even the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X I have sat doing nothing but collecting dust.

What I would like to see is either the ability to use any 3rd party hotas added to the game but not officially supported by Frontier, so if something happens to your console whilst playing Elite with a none supported hotas then that is on you, or if you crash your ship and try to submit a support ticket then again that is on you for using a none supported hotas.

The other one is to allow in combination with the Thrustmaster Hotas 4 a keyboard to be used for assigning buttons to, as the game will support this on PC and as you can use a keyboard in Elite whilst using a controller now on the PS4 although it's limited to typing it would be nice to use it to assign buttons to since the controller and hotas 4 do not have enough buttons.

Now what I would like to see is some sort of "official" statement from Frontier as to why 3rd party hotas setup's do not work in order to end all this speculation.

Hi there I just popped it from the Xbox forum and noticed a bit of salt and thought you should realise that us Xbox users have no hotas at present (one on the way but probably not till Xmas)
Anyway, I digress.
Just curious about how you guys are using headlook with the hotas 4? As I can't see a way of using it with our current control options

R3 + stick. Works great. I also have R3 + left & right on the hat switch to change fire groups.

That's a shame, you have to relinquish control to have a look around.
I was hoping you'd been given some sort of option to use the hat switch.
While I'm here, can you use both the twist function and the rocker switch (on the throttle) for different functions or do they just emulate each other?

That's simply what I chose. You can probably do it with the hat switch but I find the hat switch far more useful for lateral thrusters which I use all the time. Headlook not so much.

No, if you have yaw on the stick, you can use the paddle separately to control something else.
