Keep it civil people or I will ask this thread to be locked.
What people who are asking for other joysticks to be supported don't seem to be appreciating are two simple points (and I won't be debating these);
1. Sony only officially support one HOTAS
2. Adding support for another HOTAS costs developer time which is an expensive and relatively rare commodity which can be better spent elsewhere
Exactly.
Now I am not a game developer and wouldn't have a clue where to start, although I would love to be able to develop games but really who wouldn't.
I will just say this and then I am going to try and keep myself away from thread's about HOTAS's until Frontier mention what the reasoning behind it is.
With consoles a lot of the time, certain devices will work natively with them but because they have no official support some/most developers choose not to support them, now whether this is because that developer want's people to use a specific control setup or if it would cause to many issues and/or take to much time to test and configure the game to work with multiple different control inputs then you are left with normally just the controller.
With the PS4 you can use pretty much any USB Keyboard/Mouse, Joystick, Hotas and I think wheel and pedals since the PS4 appears to treat them like a PC would as just a generic USB Control Input Device, the only issue with them is that they are "Officially" not supported although they will work.
Now we know that multiple different joystick's and hotas's will work with the PS4, that is not a question that needs answering, and we know that multiple different types of keyboards and mice work with the PS4 and again that question doesn't need answering.
The question that a lot of people would like answering is why the joystick's and hotas's do not work with Elite on the PS4?
Now here is what I think and this is my personal opinion and I wouldn't quote me on it because it could be miles from what the actual reason is.
I believe that because there is only the one hotas that has "Officially" been supported by Sony that Frontier have removed the ability for the game to use anything but the standard controller, any USB keyboard and the Hotas 4 since I do not believe that Frontier have developed the PS4 version from the ground up, and I believe it's a port of the PC version and then tweaked to work on the PS4 but as I say I am not a developer so I don't know exactly what goes in to it.
So if Frontier have removed the ability then it's one of two things again in my opinion, either they only want to support the "Official" control options or they have a deal with Thrustmaster to lock it to only that one hotas, I generally believe that it's the first and not the 2nd option.
I also believe about 80% that the support has been removed from the game to support 3rd party hotas setup's, and that maybe it will be added back in the future but I just don't know.
For me now I am getting more and more use to the controller, but it will never be anywhere near as good as using my X56 or even the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X I have sat doing nothing but collecting dust.
What I would like to see is either the ability to use any 3rd party hotas added to the game but not officially supported by Frontier, so if something happens to your console whilst playing Elite with a none supported hotas then that is on you, or if you crash your ship and try to submit a support ticket then again that is on you for using a none supported hotas.
The other one is to allow in combination with the Thrustmaster Hotas 4 a keyboard to be used for assigning buttons to, as the game will support this on PC and as you can use a keyboard in Elite whilst using a controller now on the PS4 although it's limited to typing it would be nice to use it to assign buttons to since the controller and hotas 4 do not have enough buttons.
Now what I would like to see is some sort of "official" statement from Frontier as to why 3rd party hotas setup's do not work in order to end all this speculation.
