PS4/PS4 Pro info?

Hey now, I thought we agreed to no "Pro snobbery" ;) I chose the Slim over the Pro for a variety of reasons.

No snobbery, I had a PS4 OG for a long time and wasn't planning on a Pro but a great deal came along. The only reason to buy a Slim over a Pro as a new player is to save cash. No other reason. :)

Ditto. However the signs do not look good. We've already has the PS4 Pro and now Scorpio already. PS3/Xbox 360 had ten years. I don't think we will see that for this gen, but I hope so.

Think you are right, only had my PS4 2 years till the Pro came along. I still think it would be another 18 months or so before Sony put a new console out, but hey maybe they will do something to compete with Scorpio with PS5 next year. Yikes. It would have to be backwards compatible though I suppose.

I've heard some worrying rumours that Sony and Microsoft are taking a serious look at streaming games rather than selling consoles (like PS Now but for current gen).
Not sure how it would work probably via usb/bt dongle to TV and monthly subscriptions for certain game packages.
I know a lot of content in online games is streamed to some extent already but I just really don't like the idea.

This was rumoured how PS4 would be and thankfully it was wrong. I seriously hope this is not the way forward. :(

Reason 1 - Less expensive (more so if you need to upgrade to 4K screen).
Reason 2 - Lower power consumption.
Reason 3 - Smaller profile.
Reason 4 - The PS4 Slim is 2nd gen, whereas the Pro is 1st gen (in that Pro Slim may come out this year).
Reason 5 - In most cases, the PS4 Slim is "good enough."

Please understand that I'm not trying to be argumentative for the sake of winning an argument. The reasons I list are important to me. If they make a PS4 Pro Slim that consumes the same or less power than the current PS4, then I would be greatly tempted by it.

One argument I will make "for the fun of it" is that the PC gamer can easily use your quote against you. The only reason to buy any console over a gaming PC is to save cash. I personally don't agree with this, but it's a clever debate Aikido to your initial postulate :)

Even though I likely won't be getting the Pro anytime soon (see above post), I am very interested in hearing about your experiences with ED on the Pro. Do you still have original PS4 to do a side-by-side comparison, or did you sell it? Do you have a 4K display (I forget)? If so, does it support HDR?

Even if you're still on 1080p, I'd be curious to know if you get better textures and / or framerates. I used to be totally fine with 30fps, until I started playing games at 60fps, and now it's hard to go back. That might push me to invest in a future low-energy Pro Slim during a Black Friday sale :D

I sold the PS4. I have a 1080p TV today but have ordered a stupidly overpriced Sony 4K TV which supports HDR so will be interesting to see how it looks with that. I gets delivered on Friday. HZD has much better textures, particle effects and even at 1080p its being supersampled down from 4K. I noticed today all my HZD screenshots are 4K also.

HZD will be my winter "escape" this year. I'm hoping to grab it for a great price in November. It's a terrific game from what I've read, and a technical demonstration of just how capable the Playstation is (even the original). It has set a new standard, so we should see other games raising their own bar of excellence.

Well guys, one thing is for sure. Any PS4 version will have much, much, much better graphics than my Sinclair ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 version in the 80's. And even with those very limited computers we had tremendous fun in those days.
So keep in mind that the game doesn't all depend on graphic quality, fps, resolution etc. It more depends on the story lines, gameplay etc. Which frankly are quite good in ED. Let's be grateful being able to be able to play this (best of all times) game in this era of internet and high performance computing. Once you immerse yourselves into this game, you forget about all of this fuzz. Just enjoy.

I'd say at least another 3 years before a full system upgrade, otherwise a potential ps5 could kill sales of the pro going forward.

If Sony do announce a PS5 at E3 they will seriously upset their loyal consumers in my opinion.
Launch PS4 Slim & more importantly Pro version less than 12 months ago then announce a PS5!!!
As I say that's my thoughts but been a PlayStation, PS2, PS3, PS4 and now PS4 Pro owner I will seriously consider a move to Xbox.

Here's one of those PS5 "official" rumors I mentioned earlier. I personally am with the rest of you and think it's bunk (and clickbait), but I didn't make it up.

I think Sony would be wise to wait to see what happens with Scorpio before doing anything. There are many who speculate that Scorpio will be a flop due to price (unless MS does some serious subsidizing). The PS4 & PS4 Slim are still way more popular than the Pro, and the Pro is only $100 USD more.

I'm sure that our Marketing and Community Teams will be making announcements and releasing further information regarding the PlayStation version of Elite Dangerous during the run up to launch.

We getting some news soon Gary? 14 days left............................. :D

I'd give him one more day. If they don't show PS4 gameplay either tonight during Playstation presentation or tomorrow during Frontier's presentation, we take this "Gary" guy and make him walk the plank [arrrr]

Still no news from e3! :/ I don't think many people believed Sony would be interested in such an old game but this has now killed off any slight hope of a surprise vr announcement :( although hopefully skyrim vr will cheers up psvr adopters, awesome game! :)

If we don't get any real ps4 gameplay over the next couple of day I'll be concerned about how elite actually runs on ps4! :(

I pretty much knew there would be no PSVR announcement for E3. I would expect to see something on PS4 / PS4 Pro performance with Elite by this time.

Come on FDev Marketing and Community team.. ?

To be fair, E3 doesn't officially start until today, and not for another few hours due to the time zone.

It also lasts all week, so give them a chance.

I don't mean specifically E3 Newsh. I am not even concerned if it's linked to E3. Gary suggested some time ago we'd get PS4 details in the run up to launch.

So far its PS4 lite and we have seen very little from Marketing or Community teams on PS4.

Considering its launched in 2 weeks it appears odd to me. Even the Xbox launch has some details. As per OP.
