PS4 Update 1.10 - Codename FAIL

I'm not a computer geek, but it would seem to me that convering a game from pc to xbox would be a piece of cake. There both designed by the same people. Though the language programmers utiize is the same, the difference between the ps4 and xbox would be simular to the difference in dialects in normal language. A tyical Southern Californian has a hard time understanding a typical New Yorker for instance and both have a hard time understanding one from the swamp lands of the deep South generally called a cajun.

If I am correct, the game startted on pc, and then slightly altered to work on an xbox. The transition to ps4 is apprently been too much of a transition for pc programmers to handle. I mean if you are written code for a pc, would you employ people whom used to write code for apple. Though the language is basicall the same, it's dramically different.
FDev was getting a lot of complaints the after the ps4 release, thus one could assume the complaint were from ps4 players. Remedy was to fix the problem and realease a beta version to pc's. DUH, the issues were from ps4's not pc's. It would seem, that the update we got, was nothing more than a beta version until such time as they can hire someone with knowledge of the inner workings of a ps4. Thus a previous programmer who is bilingul in both pc and sony's console need to quit and get hired by Fdev. Until then, were stuck with the beta version for ps4.

If I remember correctly, the Xbox one release had lots of bugs and issues but they got fixed over time. I’m hoping this is the case for us.

Yup, it was not all smooth sailing back then by all accounts. I just hope we have enough PS4 players to warrant FDevs attention other than a holding pattern. I don't want the PS4 to become like the Mac version.

It was exactly like that, and took its time but it was in no way, ever unplayable, for me anyway. Yea there were periods when crashes were quite regular, and odd graphical bugs, but it all came good.

Base ps4 is still a powerful console, and popular, and Elite on it will get better... just give 'em time.
It won't be like Mac, where they straight out said Horizons would not be doable on it due to 'reasons'.

I'll still be mostly flying with my xbox Cmdr tho come middle of next week ;)7

I know this is the negative nancy thread - and not without reason. However, reality checking... while i agree there appears to be no difference between performance and quality mode on PS4 ( i re-checked last night - yup still same), I actually fund a lot of planetary surface details to be much improved since the last update. I have not noticed any significant issues with loss of detail, or textures - although i did post a couple of screenies with some weird happenings on planets but tbh this happened before the last update and is still happening so i see this as continuing issues with the architecture, not an update specific problem.

I do not think this is quite the 'global PS4' problem the last tranche of threads was suggesting and I think the PS4 version still has much appeal. While i appreciate Frontier are working hard, no doubt, to fix this issue i don't think it helpful to start binning the whole PS4 version on a single bug / conflict that a portion of the player base are experiencing.

All of THAT said - it would be nice for ALL of us in the PS4 community to hear from Frontier about progress on this, please? Some of us want the squeaky screen door fixed - whether its our OWN door or the neighbours is becoming immaterial at this point.

No offence but the planets surface in Quality mode are massively improved. At the moment that has all gone. The lighting is much worse. Remember the first PS4 livestream where Ed and Lloyd were showing off planet and lighting of the SRV. All gone at the moment.

I am still a big fan of the game and of FDev. I am totally behind FDev and want this game to be the best it can on PS4. If I have issues I will call FDev out on them. There was a lot of positive talk at the expo in chats I had with the Devs and a lot of love for PS4. Long may it continue.

None taken. I'm in the carefree boat apparently and it looks good to me, although i appreciate that on this thread - i am in the minority...

The pessimist in me (I'm schizophrenic) sometimes wonders if Microsoft is giving Frontier "favors" to make sure ED works better on their platform than the PS4.. After all, they did have an exclusive for some time! But I'm just a madman with a box, so don't listen to me.

I can assure you, this is not the case.

How ever, i do know that Microsoft was a HUGE help in optimizing Elite for XboxOne. Communications between the 2 was awesome and MS was a huge help for Fdev.

I hope, Sony is this helpful as well.
Get back on your meds’ Duck, that crazy talk! ;)

Agree'd. :p

Ow boy, i remember those times.. Ugh!

Don't let Gary hear you saying that! ;)

In all seriousness though we are aware of a bug with the Performance/Quality setting not applying correctly at the minute, it's certainly not behaving as it should.

Poor Gary..

Thanks Lloyd, this is reassuring. Also buckle up, because November is here, and when Xboxx will get the promised 4K patch pitchforks will appear on this forum... ;)

Anyone else have the problem of no plant dust being kicked up when you do planetary landings? I visited the Thargoid scout last night when I noticed it, landed about 4 times, no dust. I'm playing on Ps4 quality mode too, so perhaps it's part of the issues we have right now.

Haven't had time to test on other planets yet so it could very well be isolated.

There are plants on the PS4 Pro? I definitely need to upgrade.... :p

My PS4 Pro had a plant on it, but i took it off as soil was getting into it >.<

Any word on this Lloyd or is everyone still busy with Xbox? ;)

Yes, after seeing that the new XBoX owners are getting the 4K capability, us PS4 Pro players have got our pitchforks out >.<

Don't doubt them stormy. It's all an elaborate ruse to make us lose hope and then come and sweep us off our feet at the last moment. Lloyd is a cunning lad.

I know you're joking, but the PS4 is really not the platform to allow one's player base to lose hope, as there are so many other AAA games just waiting to capture our attention. This is especially true here in the States, as many of us will be filling our drives with these games in three weeks (Black Friday).

Let me be clear, I want ED to succeed, because it has so much incredible potential. But until they fix all these bugs in 2.4, "hope" is not something I have an abundance of.
