PS5 Error CE-108255-1 (Crashes / Crashing) with Elite Dangerous

Same here. Today I played appr. 2 hours on my PS5, then it started crashing frequently, even after restarting the game. No idea why... Haven't experienced that in the last few weeks, where I have played quite a few times.

edit: was also doing the CG today. But it crashed in open, private and solo, so not sure if a crowded system can be the cause...

Hmm this is interesting. Thanks for posting. I've played on and off for weeks with no problems.

I wonder why we are seeing crashes now?

It gives me some comfort my PS5 isn't failing if other people see these error codes.

I only crashed in Open and was ok in Solo but, that could just be coincidence.
 
Just wanted to continue the CG, another crash... But after switching to solo it worked this time for ~1,5h without crashing.

There definitely seems to be a problem, I never had so many crashes before. If they don't release a native version, they could at least make sure the backward compatible one is working...

Even my save was corrupted after the crash, luckily I had a backup through PS+ with my controller bindings (heavily customised).

I’m having terrible issues with the stability of the game on my PS5. Some days I can plod along fine. Other I can crash out of the game 20+ times in one session. It seems to get notably worse when winging up with PS4 friends. But crashes are not exclusive to that instance. Dropping out of an FSD jump into a new system seems to be when I occur the crash mostly. My save data has been corrupted on multiple occasions and I’ve lost my Hota’s binds game settings when this happens. Strangely PS party chat is also effected somehow. I play many games the same group of friends they all have PS4’s and I’m on PS5.
Division 2, Destiny 2, Ghost Recon etc. And i have no issues. As soon as we hop over to Elite I will begin to error out of party chat randomly and frequently.
I’m wondering if a full re-install may fix the issue. I’ve seen a fair amount of CMDRs say they have no issue. But there are a few who are having similar issues to myself I’ve seen on Reddit.
Immersion is super important for me while playing Elite. And it’s sadly all gone with the game running the way it is for me right now. I’m just really disheartened.

Have been sending crash reports to Sony during the whole PS4 generation, no change.

I am pretty sure it's the same on the PS5 now.

Yeh my save got corrupted too at the last crash. All my bindings got wiped. Luckily it's a case of just downloading the cloud save settings.

Odd as it may sound, I never participated in a CG; most of my time is spent out of the bubble, in the black, so I do a lot of jumps, FSS and DSS scans and landings. So my crashes weren't even in systems with a lot of carriers, or CG locations; we might be looking at various instances when these crashes occur?

I wonder how do players on PC/Xbox fare with these errors? Do they even get them as often?

They won't see CE-108255-1 as that's specific to the PS5.

Still add your details to the Issue Tracker in the first post.

I'd not seem this crash till I was playing the current CG but, it could all be coincidence.

I have seen this error code in other games.

Sorry for being maybe unclear in my post; I know the PC/Xbox players don't see the PS5-specific error code; I was wondering, if in general the players on the other platforms see as many errors with the game, crashes, like it happens on PS5.

Apologies. I've not gone looking to be honest it used to be easier when bug reports were on the forums.

Sorry if I sounded jaded, but the only time I used the bug report tracker, it was like a couple of weeks ago, when the game decided to boot me up in space upon login, thinking I didn't have Horizons.

I just don't have high hopes that some of the bugs reported in there are going to be fixed, maybe more like acknowledged. But one can hope.

Same for me. And I played ED quite regular on PS5 since the console was released.

Regarding the corrupted save: not sure how fast the auto-backup is. Worst case would be, that the corrupted file replaces the working file in the cloud. Perhaps I should disable the auto-backup for ED.
 
I had 3 crashes with ED on PS5. One in December and 2 within 10 mins in January. All the same generic code. I uninstalled it after that as I didn't feel what I gained in performance was worth the storage space and stability issues. Generally my PS5 has been stable in games with only Cyberpunk having issues. The PS5 version of NMS seems rock solid when compared the PS4 so far.
 
I’ve had a few “blue screens” on PS5. Not scientific but, anecdotally, I think they tend to happen in busy systems: usually CG, engineer or where there’s a metric ton of Fleet Cartiers.

Also tends to be Open rather than Solo, IME. Couldn’t get to one engineer at all in Open a couple of months back (would crash either when trying to jump to the system or when exiting entering supercruise in the system itself) but switched to Solo and it was fine. So I reckon it’s P2P networking / instancing issues.
