PSA: Materials are being OVERRIDDEN.

Just saw a thread on Reddit about this (kinda far down for such a huge issue...)

If you do a mission for materials, the reward amount will override your existing amount rather than adding to it. I had 70+ Security Firmware Patch.

Now down to 4 from the quest reward earlier today.

DO NOT DO MISSIONS WITH MATERIAL REWARDS

So instead of mat[THING]+=n it was mat[THING]=n

Confirmed: I effectively wiped out several stacks of mats before realising that this was happening.

Ouch, indeed.

I'm honestly a little afraid to even comb through my inventory at this point. I try to just grab a little of this and that as I'm playing the game regularly (rather than grind for one specific thing). Lord knows how long it took me to get those 70+ Security Firmware Patches.
I REALLY hope this isn't affecting the Horizons side of the game right now. It's much more likely people playing over there are doing regular missions for mats.

It used to work fine, so it was obviously mat[THING]+=n
why did they need to touch it? :ROFLMAO:

I'm guessing since they added the on-foot materials, they had to go back and redo some of the materials code? (Just guessing. My coding experience is down to Khan Academy and a few Python courses for funsies).

I wonder if the Foot Materials Missions are also doing this, or just the Ship Materials Missions?

Kudos for including a link to the issue on the Issue Tracker (y)

Could those who have confirmed in this thread go and add their confirmation to the Issue Tracker so FDev get the message loud and clear.

I've not seen this yet, but I've only accepted Material rewards for new Materials, which I didn't have already. I'll be on my guard now, thank you.

Spaghetti code would also do things like this. Just can't know since we can't see the source and I don't want to see the source.

Me, too. It might explain why I can't seem to "accumulate" any of them.
