Punished because npc's are stupid

I'll help test it if you want as I'm curious to know now myself.

No need. :)

We know how it works, the OP just won't admit that he hit the NPC friendly ship with his weapons.

Plus I may have been trying to wriggle my way into an easy free PvP kill a teensy weensy bit.

Based on that statement and your new sig, you truly are shameless![big grin]

LOL well with FDev's record I fully except it to be bug related as much as player related though I suppose you could just ram a ship to death whilst fighting and see for yourself.

Did this yesterday while goofing. doing 750 in an ieagle into a vette. Zero notoriety on either part. *shrug*

I think you were dreaming. C&P was meant to put consequences for criminal activities targeting and effecting everyone. There is specific rule in order to deter seal clubbing though.

Did you even read the focus feedback forum or watched FDev stream ?
ive read quite allot in the focused feedback, and watch allmost every stream.

but i dont saw people in bulk asking for being locked out of stuff because they accidentally hit a ship.

They asked to be punished for being naughty. That's what's happening.

... OP posted that they had a ship ram into them and they got a murder AND, this is the important part, Notoriety. Without weapon impact, notoriety doesn't increase.

Sorry guys I will forever be adamant that he swerved into me from my right i never once had guns on him...still practicing with fixed and im being careful about energy

In this case, if you're on PC, check your pilot's log. If you don't want to wade through the xml personally, install e.g. EDDiscovery to do the conversion into a somewhat more readable format for you. If the log matches with your recollection, please do a bug report. If you want compensation (for the bounty). I'd recommend to also file an issue with FD support.

Yes because Im just that petty.

A suggstion earlier got me thinking the impact may have occured on my underside, I do like to spin while shooting just for the visual and the viper mk3 underside guns are a bit back from the front possible shooting after impact or during maybe.

but how does one shot end a ship and that only brings up another question one or two shots shouldnt merit attempted murder in a fire fight where alot of shots are coming in from alot of angles but thats another years old argument.

Either way im still irritated by the heavy handed punishments in what is essentially a game and, as I said on another post, not a Spaceage HR simulator

I just find it amusing that because the C&P changes apply across the board to all players, people are suddenly complaining about having to be responsible for their actions.

Ahahahaha!

Amazing, and totally gonna steal that. :D

I like the changes -- a lot, as a matter of fact.

I have been forced to pay quite a few fines, of course, but hey, they have the effect of teaching me trigger discipline. Which in and of itself is worth something. Plus, it was a really cool surprise to be told to dock anonymously until I could clear the fine with an interstellar factor.

Its getting funny.. everytime a topic like this pops up, its allways the same people that take up arms, strap themselfs to their white horse and go full white knighting in defence for the all mighty C&P...

so far ive only see people complain that arent the real criminals of elite. Working as intended.....

Last time I looked at such a post with something "dumb npc ()§%()§)($ in my waaayyyyy" you could see the NPC flying straight, lit up by its lazors, for over one minute present right in front view almost centered, and still the complainer rammed right into him... sorry OP if I'm misjudging you, but since then I believe its unfair we cannot look into NPC's forum who complain about the dumb players :) Here, we always hear just one side of the story..

Ramming was issue before new system and will stay an issue for devs to solve via different means.

"I like to spin and shoot for the lulz. Sometimes peeps get shot, but its the lulz!"

Sounds like an effective strategy.

The log will likely indicate what happened. Given that no one has yet been able to reproduce, and that you were spinning about in close proximity to innocent bystanders, it seems most likely that you inflicted just enough damage with your weapons and hull to your victim to finish them off.

Maybe I'm oversimplifying it but I'm kind of stunned that FDev have been so incompetent when working out which party is to blame in a ramming incident.
If two ships collide, the one going the fastest is to blame, and the one going slower is the victim.

Getting rammed by feds/security that boost into you whilst scanning you is bad enough. Chances are you were in the galaxy map trying to plot a course and it interrupted that and dumped you back to the cockpit view again, with a welcoming fine.

It was a really really frickin' tiresome bug but the fact that a player got fined for an NPC mistake should have raised red flags. Seriously, the problem wasn't just the ramming, it was the apportioning of blame to the wrong party.

Let's not beat about the bush here - correctly identifying the criminal and the victim is the absolutely vital first step that cannot, under any circumstances be flawed if you want a working C&P system; As always, it soulds like FDev are trying to run before they can walk and walking will be patched in via 500 proudly-announced bugfixes in 2-3 rant-filled, player-angering years from now ;)
