PVE mode = bad idea |RANT THREAD|

There's other considerations for ditching open anyway. My bounty hunting spot had a wing of guys eating all my bounty credits, so I went into solo and haven't gone back.

whats your video game definiton of greif? =P

I've been griefed in this game. In Open mode, of course. A "friend" asked to meet at such and such system. Never showed up, but had an excuse. Then asked to meet in another. This happened 3 times and took me on quite the journey in my FDL. I unfriended him and haven't been griefed since. If you've never tried to traverse the bubble in an FDL, I suggest trying it.

you think open is pvp mode? LOL no, for gods sake, open mode is a mode intended to be full of players and npcs alike doing normal stuff every day, greifrs traders ect. we take away pvp from open , what then? no more counter CGs and cmdr interaction will become novelty and will be useless
No, I don't - I was pointing out that some players have no interest in even the possibility of PvP, will take the appropriate steps to avoid it, and that that's absolutely fine. Misrepresenting my position only illustrates the weakness of your own.

Your basic thesis is flawed because you won't (not can't; won't) understand that different people have different motivations for doing what they're doing in their free time. There's nothing else to it. You don't get to dictate how they play, and it's pretty weak of you to judge others on their choices when this thread is an illustration of how easy it is to make poor ones.

An openPvE mode would render Mobius unnecessary. I imagine he'd be quite pleased to be able to spend his time adminning the Order of Mobius player group using appropriate tools like forums, etc., rather than wading through a shower of a private group interface that's basically broken to the extent that the developers have had to get involved to help him expel the players who griefed the group.

I pointed out that there’s frequent contention online about the “right” way to play, be it casual or hard-core, and Braben agreed. “But there shouldn’t be a ‘right’ way,” he said. “You should do what makes you excited. I don’t want there to be a ‘right’ way, because then you’re not necessarily playing the way you want to play.

That's my basic contention. A not-insignificant number of players are only interested in PvE. If there were an openPVE mode, it would need to force separate instances from open mode. Thus it would make no difference to you, me, or any other open-mode player, while greatly opening up the possibilities for PvE-focused CMDRs to play together in ways that they find stimulating. /thread.

Yeah, that jump range.. Ugh! Until it improves the FDL is but a museum piece in my garage. :/

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Your opinion is noted, OP. That said, I don't see the need for yet another modes debate thread, especially one that is a self-styled rant instead of a real discussion.

WHAT IS SO WRONG WITH PVP, THAT PLAYERS BEG FOR PVE MODE? I DON'T SEE REASONING FOR IT!,

Correct, you don't. However, others do. Others would really appreciate the mode.

FD have been quite firm in that they will not favour one mode over another, but groups and solo effectively give PvE for those who want it. Could FD do more by implementing a specific PvE mode? Perhaps, but it could be seen as favouring one playstyle over another... there again, they already did that by implementing CQC ;)
