PvE players are not the problem, FD's decision to split the players apart is

I really hope you are wrong, I still have faith that FD can pull this one together but what you say is definately possible...... All those chicken poo truckers in solo and pve groups will surely get bored hauling cheese from Lave to Diso but by the time that they do the rest of us may well have left anyway.....
They'll get bored even quicker if they get blown to kingdom come every time they do anything. Those wanting PvP need to convince them that that won't happen, and calling them "chicken poo truckers in solo" (and much worse from other posters) isn't going to exactly achieve that. Give them the safe areas to start in, even if it means being heavily patrolled by helpful real players (rather awkard I know due to the instancing). Currently anyone playing PvE only seems quite happy there so they need reasons to move, not reasons to stay.

To a degree it's up to PvP players to make PvP work, and the galaxy a much more interesting place as a result. Let the players shape where's safe and dangerous, where's profitable and not.

Personally I'm fairly indifferent either way, I totter around in Open and get very little player intereraction anyway.

If you look at the positive motivations for PvP then it comes down to two aspects:

* The ability to play against friends
* The ability to be challenged due to the AI being not up to scratch with a human opponent.

The first will be sorted out when wings are introduced.

The second is something that FDev say they could do if they wanted to.

Either it gets removed or the game is 100% guaranteed to die a quick death, simple as that honestly

Haha, for you perhaps. The game you want it to be will die. For many of us, we have the game we want and the means to play it, and it will be quite successful.

You remember how many players demanded refunds when they didn't deliver offline mode? Its clear there is a high demand for PvE only.

Sorry, it seems like the dedicated PvP crowd is definitely in the minority.

The only way to really make this game one that favours PvP would be to cut the number of systems down to where meeting other players would be more or less guaranteed, and then it wouldn't be Elite and all that lovely PG galaxy routines would be totally wasted. That definitely isn't in FDs plans.

Ask for better multiplayer, get called a griefer by everyone else. I thought that a "hardcore" and "oldschool" game would mean a better, more open community. Boy was I wrong.

Thats Great, it sounds like you want to play a nice easy safe game. Perhaps Elite Dangerous is not for you, perhaps you should play something nice and safe like minecraft or Candy Crush instead.

The inverse can also be said....
If you want to play in a universe where you can be jumped and ganked at any moment the perhaps you should go play Eve.

I'm not really wishing that just trying to make a point.

It boils down to this..YOU PLAY THE GAME YOU WANT AND I'LL PLAY IT MY WAY...

Simple concept really...wrap your mind around it.

This is getting so tiresome.

Did you read the rest of what I said? That it rarely happens is entirely beside the point if the thought of it is what is putting people off.

lol so its not even trying open play out and losing a ship thats kepping prople from playing open it just the thought of it? OMG wow ok never mind i takeback all my statments about this subject ive ever made lol everyone who has that mantality i dont ever want to meet you in space or even hear anythig you have to say about anything lol stay in solo and group play please for the love of god, and im being totaly seriouse here now.

Either it gets removed or the game is 100% guaranteed to die a quick death, simple as that honestly. There is not enough "npc" gameplay to warrant playing this game solo for long. Players were the only thing that was keeping this game alive. And since more and more people will leave once solo lack of game gets boring, more and more people will not buy the game as nobody is recommending it, changes to the game will eventually mean nothing, and with less and less funding FD will be even slower to implement changes.

You wanna refute that? I guess you could but I think most people know it to be true, whether they admit it or not.
Ever seen one of those funny/unfunny clips? You know. With a guy in surplus camo. Firing a gun, which seems to jam. Inspects it. Puts a round in their own foot.

I end up shaking my head in disbelief for hours.

Fetch me my neck brace.

ED, sage commander will not die for any reason you posed.

Just a side observation, since it's obvious this topic is going nowhere, as usual:

Imagine if all three of the new space games in development -- Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, and EvE Valkyrie -- had been released at the same time. ED's income might have suffered from not being first, since I'm sure many people bought this because it's the only thing playable at the moment. But if it had been second or third out of the gate, it might have had less drama about the playing modes. People would have had other options, if they don't like this design. And those who do like it, would have less drama to deal with.

So I hope Chris Roberts and the EvE folks will step up the pace now. Those other games can't arrive fast enough, and there is enough room in that multi-game ecosystem for everyone to be happy.

"Guys, you don’t HAVE to beat me up -- we can talk this through, right? Here, I’ll do it for you:"

“Hey Claptrap, how are you?”

“Oh, I’m fine -- I kinda wish you wouldn’t beat me up, though.”

“Why?”

“Cause it really hurts!”

“You make a good point, Claptrap, but beating you up makes US feel really good!”

“I know, I know, guys, but it makes ME feel really bad!”

“But Claptrap, you’re a robot -- are you even capable of feeling pain?”

“Well, uh, no, I guess I’m not.”

“So, pummelling you makes us feel good, and DOESN’T hurt you, there’s no harm in us continuing to do it, right?”

“...Actually, now that I’ve talked it all out, I think you guys have the moral high ground, here. Pummel away!”

Bury your head in the sand if you want but it looks to me like it's exactly why a lot of people aren't playing in Open. You really aren't helping your cause and that of other PvPers with posts like that.

If you continued reading you'll have seen that I do play in Open and that this isn't what I think about it, it's not my mentality, just my opinion on what others do. I'd love it if people changed their minds and Open became a busier place - encourage people to join it, not give them reasons to avoid!
