PvE players are not the problem, FD's decision to split the players apart is

We're talking about pixels here man. You want to be brave, sign up for the military, be a firefighter or a police officer. Sitting on your ass shooting players that don't want to be shot doesn't make you brave.

Exactly! They are pixels so why are you so afraid to lose them that you'd rather hide in your own game?

I don't want to be a bigshot, I want you wusses to come play in open lol.

Pro-open mode only players will never win this argument. FD put solo in for a reason and a very good one at that. If they were to remove it now, far too many people would simply stop playing. So rather than spend time and energy trying to convince FD to change this, you can either accept it and continue playing, or find something else to do. Cold. Hard. Facts.

I think that in the interests of making PvP happen more all systems apart from Sol should be removed from the game. Then we put a red station on one side of the system and a blue station on the other side as re-spawn points, and we all just pile into each other 24-7. Who needs exploration, trading, bounty-hunting, pirating, missions or any other of that stuff getting in the way of the explosions? NOT I!! What you think? Have I single handedly saved the game?

Ha! Have a +rep for that. You gave me a giggle.

Its not a question of bravery or cowardice, its one of risk vs. reward. If anyone is playing in Solo, only because they see it as less risky rather than wanting a single player experience then I think they are missing out.

I don't blame them, but I think that Frontier could take steps to encourage players to move to Open by making it riskier.

Ideally we should be able to get to a point where it doesn't matter if interdicted by a human or AI.

Thread successfully derailed...well played. Might as well lock this thread now.

I agree. There should be an incentive to play in open mode.

Im not afraid of anything, well except heights... in real life. This a video game. I play video games to have fun. I accomplish enough in real life that I don't need virtual bravery or domination of others in order to feel better about myself. Im not scared of losing anything, if I was I wouldnt keep getting drunk and plowing my gold loaded T7 into the space stations every night by midnight. I'm just not any more interested in playing with the pew pew kids here than I am going down to the elementary school lot and playing with them there.

Yeah, insulting other gamers is the right tactic.

There is NOTHING stopping PvPers from forming groups within the game and fighting each other. Why won't you do that instead? Why must you insist that those who prefer solo play submit to YOUR wishes to play in open?

I want to play with other players in OPEN mode...that is rarely happening :-/ So how I want to play either isn't possible or isn't working well.

Those who need to play with others to enjoy the game need to make open a place that players want to play. Less needy players are quite happy to play in solo or private groups and can still enjoy the game.

Keep telling yourself that, although you will never believe it yourself. Why so jaded against competition? Bad experiences?

Oh, lighten up. This is your problem, you guys are so over sensitive when it comes to games. If you don't understand the idea of a more dynamic environment, I don't know what to tell you.

I think FD simply underestimated the cowardice of the average Elite player.

I suspect there is a lot of truth in that.... who would have thought that a game called Elite:Dangerous would attract so many people wanting to play in a safe bubble......

I mostly play as a bounty hunter in open play. I sometimes see people and it does add an interesting question of what they'll do. However, it can also lead to some poor gameplay:

I tried a nav beacon in an anarchy system, there were a few humans, no one could make any bounty as you couldn't attack any NPCs as you spent the whole time being attacked by the other bounty hunters, despite having no cargo and no bounty for them to get. Sadly would have been better in solo play.

I also tried a conflict zone recently. I fought and killed the only human on the other side, then it was just an awful time of having other humans trying to steal the last shot and the kill. Again, would have been better in solo or group. They need to fix how kill rewards work to be based on % damage done.

I also met another human whilst in my standard bounty hunt in a resource site. I only had two fixed pulse lasers equipped because I prefer the challenge of fixed and I don't want to run out of ammo if it starts giving me cobras/anacondas to fight. The human sat at zero speed and just blasted me with auto gimballed weapons, the feds didn't seem to attack him and then I stupidly crashed into an asteroid. It annoyed me so much that someone so rubbish had managed to get me killed. I went back to fight him but he was gone.

I still play in open mode, but I think there's more chance of me being frustrated than having fun from it. I'm just looking forward to group play with shared bounties. Then me and my friends will go elite anaconda hunting.

Wow you are something else. Im sure your bully tactics work great in 4th grade. In the grown up world we just roll our eyes at you. You'll get it eventually.

That's really what I was trying to say. The potential the game has and the way people are playing it are two very different things.

You talk about grade school a lot. If you play in open it won't be like 4th grade, I promise. You're in a spaceship for starters. It'll be cool.

I honestly don't care about the pvp argument at all, i play in open just because meh, my interest is just in the support of all 3 modes and what will actually happen to the game over time with 3 modes of play.

all i did with your post though is highlight the problem with every single topic, speaking to ppl in those ways and talking down to everyone is exactly why the hostility is cyclical.

Essentially, open is PvP mode. If there was enough who wanted it, they would be there already. The player base is too spread out to find each other all the time.

I'd suggest all PvP pro players decide on a system, then congregate there. Its the only way to guarantee meeting other cmdrs.

I don't even know why its called PvP pve, carebears etc. Isn't that all eve terminology?

Who wants to play a game where you can't get anywhere because someone much more experienced, with much bigger gear, will come barging in and keep blowing you to bits every time you try to do anything? Now I know that isn't happening but the attitude of a great many PvP advocates doesn't help people think otherwise - rather the opposite, usually. Someone not keen on the idea of being pestered by heavily equipped Cobras , Vipers, and Asps, let alone Anacondas, when they're in their starting Sidewinder, isn't a wuss. They wouldn't be worth the effort of a serious pirate or bounty hunter to bother with but as long as you have players who don't care who they shoot, or where, this will happen.

It would be much better to encourage people, to make them want to take steps away from safety and get some sort of thrill from doing so, to establish (in game) a mechanism for escorts and convoys, easily accessible and understandable for new players, and I'm sure there are more experienced players who would be willing to help out there.
