PvP Flag in Open Play for NOPVP players.

My proposal is to introduce a PVP / NoPVP FLAG in open play (with strong limitation of change to avoid exploiting). The reason behind this is that some player (like myself) play very small amounts of time due to personal matters and doesn't like to be blown-up by overpowered player pirates literally wasting precious hours of in-game time which translate in weeks of real life (people with families play few few time).

The Idea is:
1. Having a NoPVP flag makes aggressive interaction with other players impossible both ways (no way to directly damage other players ships or being damaged by them)
2. the NoPVP flag cannot be changed at will and not often thus limited to a
a) number of change per month/year or
b) once changed blocked for fixed amount of time weeks/months/a year
c) fixed days of the year
d) a combination of the above

I really wish there was some kind of way to search for threads just like these before posting yet another one... Oh wait.

Read them, the answers here will be the same.

By playing in Open you implicitly agree to the possibility of PvP.

If you don't like PvP there are plenty of other options to try.

As others have pointed out, this has been discussed a few times. Whilst it may solve an issue for you, I think it raises some really rather complex ones for FD and other players. For example,. if you are on a landing pad and I cannot damage your ship at all, then you are essentially invisible, I can just fly through you and land on the same pad?

There is also the BGS crowd who are going to hate that you are undermining their work, right in front of them and cannot do a thing about it.

If you only get a short time to play, I would suggest the easiest option is to fly in SOLO.

I always play SOLO or PVT session. From the BETA version of ED Just Launched. I likely continue like that forever.

I really wich there is a way to favour people to Read posts before answering. I alway Play PVT and SOLO. But you're right i didn't read previous similar post. This topic was already well presented and only now i can see cause the Frontier Forums automatically links similar posts (only AFTER your create one). But due to the fact that i have few time to play i have even less time to scroll thousands of posts in searching something to avoid annoying people which have huge amounts of time to read all.

No going to help all those that get ganked whilst being powerplay pledged, which is an explicit 'I want PvP' flag.
that's a good general point the Powerplay mechanics strongly relates to this but is easy to solve the PVP Flag could be redundant to Powerplay if you have it OFF you cannot POWERPLAY.

This topic is done to death in the forums, and has been since the game was launched so don't be surprised if it doesn't take off.

As someone who enjoys the danger of open play I'll try and explain why this isn't a great solution for me... and to nip something in the bud it's 100% not because 'I'm a meany who just wants more scrubs to murder for the lulz'. I would personally rather PvP took place voluntarily (not to say necessarily symmetrically) and is what I'd generally hope people are factoring in when they choose open mode - I certainly do whether I'm in a combat ship or transport ship. So please understand that I don't want you to be killed by me and have a miserable time.

However, one of Elite's selling points is immersion and invulnerable commanders in open would be extremely jarring. There are many diegetic and legitimate reasons to attack other players: BGS concerns, Powerplay concerns, piracy (the consequences of non-compliance) etc, opposing sides of a CG, revenge, and honestly just roleplay, all these things may not always be particularly well supported or incentivised in game but they are advertised and they do end up being a significant focal point for large portions of the playerbase. If you were able to opt-out of them while still being visible in an open instance that a) is unimmersive and b) dilutes the number of players per instance who are looking for a similar experience.

In the most obvious example, if you pledge to the opposite side of a war to me and we just have to fight around each other in a CZ - that would be awful. Similarly, if I know you are running missions or hauling merits for an opposing faction and I just have to watch you fly to and fro that's not ideal either. It shatters the illusion and minimises the stakes in an already largely stake-free game. Often people who play casually don't care about the BGS or powerplay and don't really understand this angle, but for many long-term players it's a pretty big deal and the most thrilling part of the game.

Solo and Private Group modes exist if you don't want the danger of Open - and I do understand that for some people the option of playing in a "populated" space without danger is attractive, and something Elite doesn't explicitly cater to - but Mobius PvE PGs exist and serve that purpose.

So why do you want to change a mode you do not play in?
I do not play, as explained, for the RISK vs BENEFICIAL. I play like 1 hour during the NIGHT when all my childs sleeps. Imagine if after 1 week of difficult play in few retails of time a ganker comes with overpowered Engineered ship during a session when I'm working witha not-fifht oriented ship and blows me up in less than 5 seconds? I would waste huge amount of precious real life time that anyhow can be refunded only cause on the other side there's someone that has nothing better to do. But i'd like to have interaction (cooperative) with other players. Up to now i only made as crewmate in openplay in PvE using small vessels launched from ships

You want to play in open but don't want to risk getting blown up. Join Mobius Private group, with your chums. Problem solved.

No, no more than nobody is compelled to fly in Open with the pledge on. But as Dillon Fallon noted, the system perpetrates pointless, no-attachment pledging.

How else would they incentivize pledging to those who are playing pure pragmatists, or gamist players who aren't playing any character? The ideologies espoused by the various factions have little actual meaning or context.

My CMDR has never pledged to anyone because, from his perspective, the downsides of such an oath of fealty outweigh the value of the trinkets offered...but that's because I'm consciously playing a character that is not myself, which is not something the game mandates or even really goes out of it's way to encourage.

yes you made the good point about this i totally understand. Probably it's impossible to have a demarcation line and simply open play has to be accepted as it is.

I have no idea, I'm sure someone has. The whole powerplay concept seems super uninteresting in its current form.

I don't really have a huge issue with the system itself, it just feels that it isn't very helpful for the power play gameplay that uninterested players like me cheese the system for least effort just to get the module.
