PvP Mantras

I played EVE from 2003 to 2015. I have seen many sides of the game.

The PvE was OK, but it wasn't and isn't the focus of what CCP want their game to be. Which is fine, they have been clear and consistent about that since the inception. PvE basically happens in the gaps in a PvP Universe.

CCP have learned many things over the years that this game could benefit from, eg. how to run a single sharded MMO Universe, but then again a lot of what they have learned is specific to a game where PvP dominates (and I don't just mean combat - even the economy is PvP).

THIS! Add this to your mantras, too!

Sorry to contradict you, but I used to play EVE, until it caused instability on my PC and inability to use some software I had to use. At that point I had to uninstall it (and yes, this resolved the issue) and never went back.

That's not a contradiction, that just means yuo have a broken computer mate.

Yet strangely, their PVE mechanics such as exploration, incursions, plexing, escalations and even level 4 and 5 missioning is about a hundred times more engaging than FDev's current pve mechanics in every category. Not bad for a company that wasn't even interested in massaging the PVE side of their game.

Exactly. The mechanics fit EVE well. Not Elite. So don't try to get those here, it's another game.

Over time, Frontier will come to the same conclusions. PvE and PvP have to be strong game mechanics.

Even though I agree with the mantra of there is no PvE or PvP!

It's pretty funny that the only people who crud talk EVE like this are the ones who have either a) never played the game, or b) gave up on it after a day or two.

EVE has a vibrant PVE community happening within it. You should try it some time.

Nobody is trying to make Elite EVE. However, EVE spent 13 years perfecting the beast that is a mulltiplayer open world sandbox MMO and to ignore a lot of the things they have learned in that game is pretty silly.

I played EVE for a whole 2 months. I tried to like it, I really did. However, even after 2 months of a wasted life, I found the game utterly boring. Flying a spreadsheet is not compelling and the "PvE" in EVE is simply the most mind-numbingly boring activity that I've ever come across in a game. The universe was in actuality the very thing that this game's galaxy is accused of - generic and pointless.

There are quite a few players here that would like this game to be "Eve in cockpits". The number of EVE online players that are here, trying to make this game into EVE is testament to the qualities that EVE lacks. If EVE was truly the pinnacle of PvP excellence as it is touted to be, why are there so many EVE players here trying to make this game into EVE? Why not just play EVE?

There are some things that Eve got right, but they are generally pushed aside in favour of the things that Eve hot wrong. System security in EVE is very well implemented. Player to player trading is pretty well done, although here it would seem that the actions of some nefarious gold farmers would prevent the rest of us from having a path of progression after we have all the ships that we want. The corp system in EVE is pretty decent.

The politics sucks in EVE though. Such adolescent blabbering between some corps is comical. And the TS "conversations" that I encountered reeked of players who had spent too much time on mind-numbing tasks -
"What you guys up to today?".
"Making ISK. You?"
"Making ISK too? Hey, you think skiffs are OP?"
"Yea. Only another 6 months before I have the skills trained to fly* one"

This game could have been an epic incarnation of EVE if designed that way from the start, although P2P networking and current tech would be an obstacle to that. It will be interesting to see how Valkyrie works in practice. I have no desire to play in VR though, so I'll have to take other people's word for it.

*and by "fly", I mean "make the correct menu selections".

What i really and i mean really, really hate from EVE it's the flight system. Basically there is no flight system. It was a shock to me after the classic Elite, X3 etc etc.
What i really loved from EVE it's the multiplayer part, especially massive multiplayer.
Skills system is fine even if you need to wait 6 months to fly a HAC or a T3 cruiser, after all even if you have the skills to fly the ship (you can always buy a character from bazaar or the new skill injector), you don't have the real life skills to fly that ship, meaning a lot of social skills (for example if it smells like a trap, it is).
Politics? You really don't need the politics you can do whatever you want and of course suffer the consequences (in the first two months of EVE i died a few times per evening in cheap ships and never get a killmail in this time).
Sorry if it was boring to you, what is really boring in EVE it's to go in null sec in a big alliance and go to all the CTA's (call to arms).
Go in lowsec shoot everything in your range, scam some people in a hisec trade hub, steal all the salvage you can find in mission hubs, camp and stalk in a stealth bomber a wormhole corp, via wormhole visit nullsec and shoot down some ratters, there are lot of exciting things you can do in EVE, please don't ever forever touch the mining.
Like i said in the first phrase the biggest con for me was the flight system. Maybe in the future EVE will change the flight system or ED will implement some goodies from EVE or even better both.
I can wait, i am very patient.

"Anyone who beats me must be hacking."
"Anyone who beats me must be hacking."
"Anyone who beats me must be hacking."
"Anyone who beats me must be hacking."
"Anyone who beats me must be hacking."

You joke but I genuinely had a CMDR accuse me of hacks because I shot out his powerplant accidentally.

The next two times I fought him, you can guess what module I targetted ;)

"Sidewinders are for target practice"
"Sidewinders are for target practice"
"Sidewinders are for target practice"
"Sidewinders are for target practice"
"Sidewinders are for target practice"

Am I doing it right? :p

Yay! \o/
I did all those things (with the addition of stealing a POS!) and had a great time in EVE :)
And you're right about the mining lol :D

I did prefer the PvP in EVE to Elite. I suppose that's because CCP made it the main focus of the game - even the markets are PvP!

These days I do prefer Elite though; it's a bit more laid-back and I love using the stick to fly a spaceship properly.
