Python - how do you fly yours?

A FAS or even an FDL can easily kill a python if your not careful. Don't just assume he's bad.

Mate, as I said in my post I've been flying Pythons for well over a year. I know what the ship can and can't do and there is literally no npc in the game that can take it out if flown properly. Not one. Note - I assumed from the post I replied to that the poster was talking about PVE. In PVP yes, it's a totally different story.

not in pve, or you just need the right wappons and/or practice

Exactly.

As Mssrs Wrmiller and Anders said, in PvE, a well-situated Python will be able to handle any ship 1v1, including elites, and even NPC wings of smaller ships.

FAS, FDL, Anaconda, they have gone down under the guns of my Python, and that is really not a big deal. NPC's are getting a bit harder to kill recently but that is a good thing.

Like a pro :).

I use FA off and boost turns when necessary.
My thrusters are engineered, which improves performance considerably.

I have put turrets on top and a gimballed large beam under its chin. It works for me.
I might replace the two large turrets on top with gimballed too.
I will definitely keep two turrets to keep agile small ships at bay.

I love my Python for its incredible versatility. It is my go-to-ship for missions and ranking.
It has no competition in the medium size range.

I have two, but my trader/passenger/mission runner has paid for my Anaconda, Cutter and Corvette, not to mention the smaller ships.
DD5s really wake them up but they're not agile.

Seems to really respond well to shielding and it has a pretty large distributor so I have a combat version planned with that in mind.

I fly mine with G5 DDs, armoured and gimballed weapons. I love flying with fixed multis but I tend to waste too much ammo.
Now with 6C Bi-weaves, thermal resistant.

Kinda this ^.
I much prefer my Conda and T9 but sometimes you just have to get on medium pads. And the Python is the current King of medium pads.
And another throwout plea to put the T7 on medium pads...

If you plan on using it for combat, slap 3 large PAs on her and watch things melt. A fully upgraded/modded Python can butcher anything PvE wise. One final point, i have seen folks mention its a big target, which it is, however if you can keep your nose constantly pointing at your target, it's forward profile is smaller than an FdLs and FAS.

Seriously. Just upgrraded to the python from a Fedassault. (wanted to go gunship but not quite ensigne yet) Does it get better? The turning is HORRID and right now im in complete turrets just so i can hit stuff. I personally dont like turrrrets ... i like a mix of fixed and gimbled. Once i upgrade my thrusters im hoping that ill be able to track ships slighly better. Though i might ask how others felt about it.

GO!
I use clean drives because although the agility bonus is smaller they are better suited to battles and exploration (fuel scooping) due the lover heat generation. Which makes em a perfect choice if you use energy weapons.

Personal opinion and probably controversial:

A Python without mods pitches around 33d/s. Thats close to a battle-fit A-rated Viper. Anyone who needs turrets to hit with such a ship should not grab DD but first up their skills a bit. Using DD would just be covering up some deficiencies that are easily fixed proper. When you then use engineers you'll appreciate it much more, and will be able to use it to its potential much better. People who go straight for DD tend to fly like airplanes and barely use vertical/lateral thrusters/FA off and boost turns.

I sold mine for an Annie, then rebought the python.

Sometimes you need to be able to land on medium pads. Missions. Cargo. Bounty turn ins. Exploration data. Moving a BGS needle in a system without a large pad. Picking up a new module or engineering a weapon. Doing something quickly somewhere that needs doing. The python does it in style.

I just don't take the mission or bounty hunt in a medium pad system only

Or....learn to fly a viper first. That way you can improve your skills, without a big rebuy, but you also have to be good because of smaller weapons.

Or am I missing something?

After engineering the thrusters my Python became a whole different beast. I didn't like it before the upgrades, was thinking of selling it. Now tho, it's my favourite ship in my little fleet.

Nope, thats actually great advice. It would have prevented the senseless abuse of countless Corvettes, Conda and Cutters.

When i first bought it, i was a little dissappointed, i had heard so much about the python. I bought it and D rated everything but FSD, decked with cargo for a CG. Coming from an aspx its like driving a cargo van, after making deliveries in a Porsche SUV... but it gets much better with upgrades as everyone said. But if you think thats bad try a D Rated anaconda....
Within a week or so, im gonna buy a secong python though, one for mining, one for CGs.
It grows on you.

Honestly for cargo runs you barely notice in a python. It's not nimble, but it's no brick either, it can at least evade interdictions, and docking and unlocking is stable and safe, not twitchy like SOME ships (look at you, my taxi hauler).

Well I changed from a viper to an imp eagle. Vipers good but the imp eagle makes it look like a boat in comparison. That's probably why I chose the FAS over the FDL. Honestly hope the krait is nimble too when that comes.

I got mine before Horizons and RNGineers. Loved it when I got it. At that time, what I could not outfight I could out run. RNGineers just brought her back up to her pre-nerf specs.

This is pure PvE only.

True. Although it does depend on the outfitting ofcourse. My ultra-super-lightweight Viper does 55d/s, whereas my spikyViper only does 45. My CZ Eagle does a little over 70, outpitching the F63 by a fair margin. After flying it for a bit I tend to become super lazy, and everytime I go back to a less agile ship I get a quick reality check in my face. :p

And yeah, definitely hope the Krait is gonna be small and agile!
