In terms of thrusters, the Python really benefits from A spec and a bit of engineering. Even L3 drives are like a different world.

Definitely. I have a couple of A-rated pythons one of which is for missions/combat with L3 Dirty Drives and the other is just a mining ship without DDs. The difference between the two in terms of speed, agility and manoeuvrability is stark.

Well I have been slowly tweaking parts on my Python, Stheno, with the Engineers, and this is how she currently sits:

http://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/pyth...wJJiTogIXga5L25ICkQ8f8-AGiDeKf2AAAA?bn=Stheno

No major upgrades on the whole, other than the FSD and Drives which are level 4 for the FSD, and level 3 dirty drives.

One of the pulse has the scramble spectrun secondary effects, and the Burst (in the prow) has the inertial impact secondary effect.

Next up is a tweak to the medium multicannons, although I do have a couple of lightweights I may mount for now stored away.

I run mostly missions, with the odd passenger delivery or some pure trade. Just a nice ship to pilot for some enjoyable time in game.

Edit IN: Having finally entered this all on coriollis I can see it would actually be worth upgrading my power plant a little for some more power (and with an eye on a lower mass :)), to allow the equipment to sit nicer in the power bands. looks like I know what I am up to next....

I am pleased to announce that I have just purchased my very first Python, after only flying vipers, and I am well chuffed with it! Cant afford to kit it out good yet, however I am now looking forward to improving her. I may even start using engineers now!

Looking forward to exploring the Galaxy with her :)

Bought a Python last night

I think I am mainly going to be trading for a while, current loadout gives me 272T (276 tons if I remove the vehicle bay)

Any thoughts, can't afford to do too much at the moment as I only have ~3x the insurance but at 272T I should be able to rack up a few million more pretty quick.

Pve only: currently I run pulse burst pulse in my large slots and MCs in the mediums. Should I switch to large MCs instead?

If you can afford it upgrade the life support and sensors to D grade to reduce mass, fit a 6D power plant and PD (the performance is similar but the mass reduction is significant) that'll get you more range and a little additional speed.

I'm not entirely sure why you're fitting weapons as a heavily loaded Python with 4A shields shouldn't be getting involved in combat it should be boosting away and waking out, perhaps some mines and turrets for distraction but for a combat capable Python you want to fit class 6 shields and A grade boosters and perhaps some SCB's.

I run a multi-role Python and fit it with cargo racks and passenger cabins, pick suitable passenger missions and cargo missions and you can bring in serious cash

Thanks for the input, you are probably right about the weapons but always feel vulnerable without some hardware onboard :)

Will definitely follow your advice on the power plant and PD :)

Should be able to afford a few upgrades when current CG finishes

No need to convince me - I've been a believer for quite some time.
My python is my go-to ship for getting nearly anything done - especially if those things involve other ships going Boom.

As a multi-role ship I have had it perform every role I've run across - hauling poo, hauling passengers, blowing other ships up, mining - you name it. There's nothing it's bad at.
It may not be exceptional at anything - except being exceptionally good at everything.

And yes, it has had nearly every system Engineered to its limit, which has raised the bar considerably. Overall it's one of my favorite ships.

Yup, Python is great. The only other ship I enjoyed as much was Clipper, but due to bad hardpoints, shields and mainly L pad limitation I just went back to Python.

Although it was the only (or one of the few) ships that were nerfed and recieved no buffs so far, I still love it. And fully engineered one is a dream to fly, too bad I didn't have time to do that in live yet ^^.

I switched from a T-7 to a Python and started as a trader with 240 ton capacity using only a 5A prism. shield generator. I used a 6A power plant instead of a 7D. Both plants have roughly the same power output but the 6A only gains 0.4MJ per MW instead of the 0.75MJ of the 7D which would have heated up the python really quick. Together with a 6A Thrusters the price tag was around 106 mil cr.
You'll not lose a fight in a one-on-one situation (in PvE) cause this Python is way stronger that can keep up with it and can outrun every ship that is stronger (well that was the way at least before we got engineered NPC vessels). With 756 raw shield and 728 hull strength there weren't much out there to be afraid of.

I love this ship, I ended up with a Python in Frontier (Elite 2) after using the ASP and the Imperial Currier for a long time. Never got my hands on the Anaconda back then and I don't like the Anaconda in Elite 4 that much, it's way to bulky and slow imho. My Python saw a lot of transformations, currently I run an all-purpose build with 160t of cargo capacity. I did the empire-rank-grind with this one to Duke within 71h of game play (according to steam), gained 330 Mil cr. in that time (donated approx. 50 Mil though) and shot down well over 200 pirate crafts.
I could buy me an Imperial Cutter for trading now, but I still have to do the engineer grind and I have doubt the Python will serve me well doing this task also.
Also I love this ship [heart]

Must admit, engineers (annoying as they may be) have brought new life to the Python. now, I'm just waiting for the ship kit.

I am thinking of selling my Anaconda and rebuying a Python with a view to fully engineering it. In my Anaconda I have an upgraded grade 3 dirty drive 6A thrusters and a grade 3 strengthened 6A Shields. I also have a grade 3 6A extended range FSD which is too big for the Python so will more than likely either sell it or put it in long term storage. Am I right in thinking that the way that storage works is that I can put the thrusters and shields into storage along with most of the other modules already on my Anaconda and then after I have bought a Python and sold the Anaconda I can install those which fit the Python?. I like the Anaconda and like most of us as soon as I had enough credits I sold my previous Python and bought one. Truth to tell I have never felt as comfortable in it as I did in the Python and after reading here the plusses of an engineered Python I thought I would go for that instead. I have a partly upgraded FDL which I use for combat and a Cobra MkIV rigged out for mining and the Anaconda is only really used when I do long distance trading missions etc. Appreciate any advice offered. https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/ana...w18ZVA=.IwBhrSunao==.&bn=INS Golden Splendour

Saltyseadog,
IMO you should think twice before selling conda. Python is fine ship, but conda is almost direct upgrade. The only downsides of conda are large pad and somewhat slower speed (still you can get ~350-360 boost with 7A DD5). Basically all you can do in python you can do in conda too, almost always better, apart from landing on outposts.
Also... why are you using things like downsized A-grade thrusters and power distributor in conda? This usually makes no sense...

Alright peeps, talk to me about an engineered Python. Please post your stats: I have an engineered Cutter and FDL, but, I was thinking about doing a Python. So how awesome or bad is it? I want the ship for combat and exploration. I don't need credits or trade rank.

My Combat cutter does 26LY and my combat FDL does 20.5LY. So what can I get on the Python?

That's actually very nice looking! I'm so tempted to duplicate.

Strip the Conda and store the hull as you'll lose 10% on trade in (15 mil!), engineered the Python is a great ship with loads of power for almost any build you can imagine but there's also a lot of interesting ships that are worth a look like the Keelback, FDS, FGS, FAS (naval rank required), Asp scout, Orca (20% discount in Alioth)
