QoL: Local Beacon

Proposal: Add a 3rd option to the Beacon function Menu
Purpose: Make grouping larger numbers of players in an instance less cumbersome.

Description:
Proposal for a 3rd option to the Beacons Menu called "Local" that will put a marker on everyone's ship scanners within a certain distance so they can highly rank in being added to the ship sending the signal's instance. The reason for this is the current system for getting more then 4 people in the same instance is cumbersome and error prone. A new signal for all nearby friends would make getting more then 4 in a single instance to be more reliable and a huge QoL boost for teams more then four members.

I have been watching live streams where the players spend more time trying to get everyone into an instance more then they were doing the actual content. This is a system level issue that needs addressing as it is detracting from the actual fun of the content.

Thanks.

Edit:
let me clear some confusion:
1. Works just like wing beacons without the need to be in a wing.
2. Only friends that are in range can see it.

That's it. You can't see it on your scanners if you not on the guy's friends list and unless your within a specific range. Other then that, no different then how wings group in an area without all the wing swing.

Nope (1) - keep your unwanted beacon markers off my scanners, thanks
Nope (2) - I figure it'll take approximately 3 ms for griefers to realize they can use this to gank people

Read: "take logical discussions away because GRIEFING! No, I don't want to discu...I SAID GRIEFING!!1!"

nearby friends
:S do people read?

1. Applied to Friends list
2. Within a specific range

If your worried about getting griefed, well, you know what people always say about that.....

Also, why would you have a griefer in your friends list and have your beacon on so they could find you?

This would work in private groups as well, you getting griefed there too, wow man, you got it bad, sorry to hear that.

Yeah... I can see this being exploited.

It's an interesting suggest. I'd never use it (because my friends usually communicate with me through Discord or TS3) and we can work out instancing issues because we don't always play in open.

Good luck with this getting incorporated though.

None of this will ever get considered, but hey, there's that 0.000000000000000001% chance..... [alien]

What you said is exactly my point, first guy gets in, turns on the beacon, all *local friends* target the beacon and fly to it. You already use something like it with wings, why do the all the wing juggling? Wouldn't you rather spend that time going pew pew on what ever it is your doing?

It'll be less of a chance to be considered depending on the negative/ambivalent noise from the denizens. Keep that in mind when you pitch something.

Okay, my bad - didn't see the 'Friends list' bit.

Could call that a "Kill Me" beacon! [big grin]
That in and of itself could be interesting. Use it to intentionally attract pew pew. Possibly have it disable after being successfully interdicted or someone drops in from supercruise. Not that I'd have the courage to use it myself. [big grin]

I like the idea. It would be neat to be able to use it as a distress beacon, too.

If someone drops in on the signal of an unknown commander and gets "ganked", that is super, super their own fault.

I was just thinking about something similar because trying to organise the large numbers needed for the newer class thargoids is next to impossible using wing beacons. It would also allow easier use of multicrew ships, especially with fighter-equipped ships and the new type-10 coming out soon which could be fitted with plenty of turrets as well.

My suggestion though is for it to be a group beacon, thus anyone in your group sees it just like a wing beacon.
