I've asked for this a couple of times... But here we go again.
It would be useful to have some free type text in a good number of areas in ED just to help us organise our thoughts...
Against ships: What's the current state of play with ship X? What's it for? Is it my exploration ship? Have I swapped out a module to use it for something else and want to remind myself?
Against modules: (Stored or in ship) Which of these X similar modules has what crafting? What's it aimed at, exploration? Piracy? A single sentence would help me pick it out. Be nice to see these easily on the list of stored modules for example. ie: Which is the one I modified in so-and-so way?
Against friends: Who is CMDR X? Oh yes, he's the one who helped me out with Y. Good chap! Now I remember!
Against CMDRs: Allow notes against a CMDR. For example on the contact pane you can view any notes you have on a CMDR, and have an option to "Amend" them. So if you see a CMDR on your scanner/contacts you can see if you've got notes on them (eg: "Helped me with X", or "Shot me for no reason!")
Against elsewhere? eg: Planets/stations etc? Bookmarks?
ps: I'm sure this could all be held client side, and therefore could be used/maintained by third party apps too?
Yeah I'm all for this. I have to keep a notepad by the computer for Commander names and notes. I've also taken to naming bookmarks things to help me remember what they are for, but that's not necessarily the same as the best name to have them listed under. While neither of these things are game-breaking at all, and I do quite like having it a bit old school with paper notes for things, it would be much more convenient to have them in-game.
MODULE | NOTES |
3A FSD | "Grade 5 single rolled" |
4A FSD | "Grade 5 single rolled" |
5A FSD | "Grade 5 single rolled" |
6A FSD | "Grade 5 single rolled" |
7A FSD | "Grade 5 single rolled" |
8A FSD | "Grade 5 single rolled" |
3A Thrusters | "Grade 5 single rolled" |
5A Thrusters | "Grade 5 single rolled" |
6A Thrusters | "Grade 5 single rolled" |
7A Thrusters | "Grade 5 single rolled" |
8A Thrusters | "Grade 5 single rolled" |
etc... | etc... |
Having just recalled all my ships to Jameson Memorial for a module audit, I agree. Gathered mats to single roll 10 G5 FSDs this morning. Thrusters next.I wonder how many CMDRs would appreciated notes right now against their modules? (Ready for the impending G1->G4 grind)
I've suggested something similar several times, myself.
For me, it'd be great to be able to "label" modules so I know where they came from.
On my Cutter, for example, I've got one set of modules fitted to ferry it to an AO and then a different bunch of modules go in once I get there.
It'd be nice if I could label the cargo racks, fuel-scoop and ADS etc, so I know they're for something specific and don't sell them when I have a clear-out.
Similar thing with my T9. It gets used for cargo and mining.
If I could label the modules I'd know the stored ones came off my T9 and weren't just some random junk I've left lying around.
It's something that'd be so useful that it's more a case of "why not?" than "why?".
Just buy a notepad & a pen and keep them near you whenever you play Elite.
