Quality of Life Improvement: Input LAT/LON Co-ords and have a Surface Waypoint appear, similar to the surface scan mission Waypoint.

@Op - Agree 100%, planetary bookmarks and the ability to punch in coordiantes should have been in from the start.

However... I've said this probably a hundred times now - Guy's you don't even need to attempt to learn planetary navigation.

Type in Rhumb line calculator into google, pick whatever free calculator you'd like to use, enter your coordinate's, the calculator will give you the correct bearing from your current location.

It will save you a huge amount of frustration if you are not good at navigating manually. Am surprised EDDI hasn't implemented a Rhumb line calculator.

Edit - Just checked, someone has a Rhumb line tool for ED here http://hotdoy.ca/ed/bearing/

An in-game system built in to the ships that allow you to enter coords and see where to go would actually be pretty cool i reckon.

Also, the HUD gives us all kinds of visual indications (orbit lines etc) when supercruising between planets, why not some indication for lat/log lines that can be toggled when in orbit of a planet?

Yes, this please.
The lat, long indicators are absolutely fine, no problem with that. I can navigate manually if I really want to but, it would be super helpful to be able to set even temporary positional markers or waypoints, setting up bookmark locations for later would be even better.

I'd love if you could bookmark 'in game'. Meaning if you visit a location, you can fire/drop a beacon and it becomes a surface marker on the Surface and System Maps. Bonus points if you could give each beacon a label, and share with friends so they can also see them.

Great for re-finding locations, but also great for marking out a surface race course etc.

Take it a step further and the beacons could be used in space to make a signal source persistent. If you found a Distress Call seeking fuel, drop a beacon, then go get equipped with transfer limpets and come back to the beacon to complete the rescue.

It simply makes no sense to add a massive bit of game content like being able to land on a planet, then provide next to no means of navigating around it or finding a specific point on it more easily.

Still boggling at that one.

No argument from me, ive been moaning about it for a while.

I haven't used Captains log, I will give it a look. I have found another one online but it is still more frustrating than it needs to be.

Or a pirates treasure haul when you've brought down a T9 full of diamonds and realised you forgot Limpets.

Again.

Perhaps it shows a distinct lack of imagination for potential gameplay beyond "collect X" or "shoot Y".

For the sake of my weary eyes, yes please. Having to peer at a couple of sets of tiny numbers to see if I'm heading in roughly the right direction is not fun or relaxing or even particularly 'gameplay'.

I just want to be able to type in some coordinates and then get a marker on the surface. Doesn't need to be fancy, just accurate. We have this functionality with old fashioned GPS. Should be common place in the 34th century, right?

Yes to both, and make it an onscreen option, so as not to inerfere with the Cmdrs who don't want it

I would like to add - I hope everything DOESN'T become a HUD/map marker. The option to bookmark a location and have it show on your HUD or a marker on your compass is a great QoL feature, but I like occasionally having to search for stuff. If everything in the galaxy is marked on your HUD you end up staring at your HUD and never really appreciating the galaxy behind.

Oh absolutely I wouldn't want EVERYTHING to be spoon fed....but there are occasions when a marker would make sense and improve QoL. If we know the co-ords we want, then a manual waypoint would be fine, same as if we're heading to a crash site with an active transmitter. If we're hunting for a hidden base with an active transponder or something then the existing method of finding it is perfectly fine...mission marker points you to roughly the right area then you gotta search for it - in fact I'd argue the current method is a little too easy as searching just involves pointing your ship at the marker until it moves and it'll keep moving until it takes you straight to it.

No, not all should be a marker, but there needs to be a mechanic for searching. The SRV scanner is a great example of search gameplay well done.

I am sure we will be searching as well. Mission description for example; On of our ships has shot down on xxxx planet. Here are the planetary co-ordinates of its last known position.

You get to that area, then you need to search for it as it will not have crashed at that precise point.

I'm going to blow your mind here: You could always choose not to use such a feature...
