Quality of Life Improvement: Input LAT/LON Co-ords and have a Surface Waypoint appear, similar to the surface scan mission Waypoint.

Wonder if something like the OP will be in the Q4 update.

First you must synthesise memory chips from elements acquired by shooting pebbles on a planet surface. The memory chips can then be used to store a coordinate of a surface waypoint. Once recalled, the memory chip will become degraded requiring resynthesis. The longitude and latitude are uploaded into a probe that is then fired at the planet surface. If, after passing a simple RNG test, the probe survives impact on the surface, it will start to emit a signal. The signal isn't strong enough to be ready by your ship scanners, though. However, if you orbit between 2km and 15km from the surface, you can pick up varying wavelengths of sound. The wavelengths can then be translated using a simple conversion map (only available out-of-game) into a series of colours. The colours, assuming you're not colour blind, form a pattern that will direct you to the probe which hopefully hit the precise waypoint location that you wanted. When you get close to the probe location, it will stop emitting... you know... for fun. When you finally find it you'll think to yourself what an awesome experience that was. While you're down there, don't forget to collect more pebbles to replace the memory chip.

That was epically done :)

Also sounds like what they're mistakenly going to do with the ADS/immediately available system map :(

Anyway - let's hope they do add in a bookmarkable waypoint system - sensibly ;)

Hardly clever. I have fished on lakes you could lose site of the shore.
"Great Lakes" Best to not have a compass out of a cracker jack box.

Yeah, people underestimate the Great Lakes. But, I'm used to trans oceceanic missions...in a single-seat fighter. No bathrooms, always short on fuel. I don't use reduced tanks for exploration. :(

Still doesn't excuse Frontier from providing proper tools.

I bet you'd have some tales to tell to my son. He's an Air Cadet. Recently made Cpl. , getting prepared by his higher-ups for Sgt. in a few months time, is going to be doing his gold Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition soon, and recently signed on as civ. staff at an RAF VGS Squadron. I don't know if he'll join the RAF for sure, but he does want to become a flight instructor ;)

Indeed it does not.

Good luck to your son. Getting a good flying slot is something that is getting tougher, everywhere.

In the US, we have the Civil Air Patrol, but it's fading with budget cutbacks.

Why do players of this game reject technology that has been common for nearly three decades?

The autopilot flamewar is the definitive answer. It's ego, pure and simple.

The new discovery system is now nearly a religious doctrine, like the shared economic background simulation, within Frontier, I suspect. That too is dependent on ego *ahem* "skill".

The competitive nature of online games carry the seeds of destruction within them. After a certain number of repetitions, it's not gameplay, but work. This is why (aside from not being good enough, and recognizing it) it becomes work, not relaxation/entertainment.

One wonders if exploration is botted, like Power Play... :(

Scripting won't work with the tasks required in the new exploration mechanic.

Thanks Ralph, this sums up the worst of ED. BIG PAUSE. I still enjoy it though.

Yes, this topic has now become moot. FDEV came up with something way better :)

I'll now ask for this to be closed. It's been a good topic with many of the great and the good posting - thanks CMDR's o7
