Question about buying system data.

I'm currently out in the middle of nowhere exploring.
While i was browsing though the galaxy map, i found a random system with a option to buy cartographic data from.
I traveled to the system (Without buying the data) to see what was in it, and saw it was completely undiscovered.

I've mapped the landables in the system, and I've found nothing. I'm currently thinking of doing a more detailed analysis of the system, But im unsure if i should or not because i don't know exactly how buying system data works (since only some inhabited systems have this option)

Any answers are appreciated.

A lot of system data is for sale even tho no one has ever been in said systems. This part is a mystery.

You can use it to your advantage. If the data is expensive there is likely some ww/elw in the system.

I just took a look at the surrounding stars, and a few of them also had data available. Nothing in them however. I guess it really is a mystery.

The ability to buy system data for remote uninhabited systems would certainly be a bug.

Do you have a FC? They allow you to buy nearby systems, but I guess that would be pretty obvious, so probably not

I stumbled over this mystery too recently during my exploration.

I actually just purchased a fleet carrier while in colonia. if they do allow you to buy nearby systems, then that could explain it.
