Question about ED player goals

The big weakness of ED

NO. ENDGAME.

<snip>

And grinding „reputation" for Elite status? meh, sounds like WoW to me, doing dailies. Don't care about a badge or title over my character name.

It could have been EvE with cockpits and actual territorial conflict, but sadly, big nope.
Well, without being rude, you do seem to say this stuff. A lot. Repeatedly.

Assuming you're not just trolling, what's the point, why not just choose a different game if you're that disillusioned?

Exactly! I would like there to be ways to have a more permanent impact on worlds, maybe in future expansions, but the core of the game is sandbox where the things that are exciting when you start playing are just as exciting in 5 years time with the same character.

As was suggested to you previously (here), you would be better off petitioning CCP for EvE 2.0 with pilot-on-the-controls rather than point-and-click combat.

Your "sadly" is my "thankfully" in this instance.

absolutely not.

the strength of ed is no end game......

it is a true open world.... sorry, open galaxy. all that space to explore and no min/max nonsense.

so at some point you own 111 different ships, then what, grinding out ship 112 ?
and your "Elite title" does what, exactly?

actual territory guild warfare in this MULTIPLAYER game with endless territory is min max nonsense?
managing big cargo haulers and a trade empire is min max nonsense?

yeah then please add this min max nonsense

I suggest and request "this stuff" for the chance of making this game a longterm title, I really don't wonder that some Elite vets from the 80ies have no clue about the importance of endgame activities which are different from day 1 noob gameplay.

Where is the character progress when you have a billion credits?
No where. So, the gap needs to be filled sooner or later. ENDGAME.

What Endgame activities do you mean?

I've leveled out completely on several MMO's - Raid content is a joke. A bad one.

When you have a billion credits, it's just even easier to make another billion and spend it on whatever you please. Build the fastest, strongest, most wonderful ship you can imagine, hyperspace to Sagittarius A*, and see if you can beat gravity in a badass contest.

What would you suggest instead?

There will eventually be planetary landings, who says we cant eventually buy a house maybe with hangers for ships and turrets for protection fro pirates?

Or set up a clan and claim a planet?

I think if that turns out to be what players start asking for then maybe that will come in time but for me, i just want to travel among the stars.

Or set up a clan and claim a planet?

There have been a lot of posts regarding player ownership of stations. It seems from first inspection to be a goal with some impact - a station would cost a huge number of credits to build and could have significant emplaced defences and a squadron of fighters for additional protection.

However there is a massive disadvantage to owning a station - it's in orbit about a single planet in a single solar system.

Given that there will be 10s of billions of solar systems in Elite: Dangerous, owning a station orbiting a planet in one solar system would have a negligible effect.

Similarly with planetary claim staking....

Since you want a fundamentally different game to the one being produced here, you really have to ask yourself what the hell you're doing here. Hmmm?

Surely there are other games that more closely match your winning formula?

"some Elite vets from the 80ies have no clue about the importance of...". Yawn. Lol.

e.g.

-Building and owning stations and factories in space and on planets
-Territory/sector owning - god knows we have enough territory in this game to hand it out like cookies
- Multiple ship control, cargo haulers running automated trade routes, building up a trade empire
- most importantly Guild territory warfare, a player driven sandbox standard feature

to name a few

and yes, I agree, Raids suck

He likes to come here, from time to time, and bang on his drum...

Despite posting his own poll like this, and stating firmly that "Unlike others I accept poll results", he doesn't actually mean that so goes on about the same thing some 10 times more or so...

point 1.... all i want is one....count it...ONE long range explorer.

point 2..... gets me better missions.

yup... it does go toward min/max nonsense.

i think you are missing the point about the scope of the play area. i quoted 100 billion stars, someone else quoted 400 billion. fair to say it's between those two. one thing that is certain is that no-one will get to see them all. and that is the attraction for me. if you want a game with all that lame endgame stuff go play one... there are lots of them.

Not biting troll, about end game - if you actually have read DDF archive (which you have been asked to do I think 100 times), then you would know, that reaching Elite status means you get Elite missions - very difficult, very complex ones. Again, those aren't raids, but you will need either good skills or help from human or NPC pilots to complete them.

To be honest - in my own humble opinion that sounds awfully boring.

Automated trade routes? A trade empire? Multiple ship control? All that sounds like spreadsheet shuffling. Excel 2013 may be the game you are looking for.

Guild territory warfare? That does sound a little bit more exciting - but remember, once territory has been taken by force, it must be held. Do you really want your guild members on sentry duty? It must be so much fun to log on, and find out you have been assigned to patrol the same old systems every night in case some rival guild comes along and pinches them :(

Clans battle for land in World Of Tanks, i know i have fought in the battles, you have to be online at the right time to fight in the heats leading up to landing battles and then fight for the land. if you are holding land in some areas you have to have a team online every night to hold it.

Screw that for this game.

My goal is to get a nice long range ship and make credits by running supplies to explorers in far off places. Couldn't do that in the first 3, for sure, and not really a defined role in this one, either.

I think this is a great idea! You could charge a fortune, maybe even peddle in information exchange.
I'm not sure how feasible it would be though. Explorers refuel from stars and I believe they will have some sort of repair capability on board between visits to frontier stations and the edge of explored space.
However, you might be able to flog stuff to the riff raff on the rim. I think they would pay a good price for goods manufactured in the core. You'll have to watch out for or befriend the pirates though in addition to keeping straight and on the right side of bounty hunters. . .Ohhh, the possibilities. :D

the strength of ed is no end game......

no min/max nonsense.

Nail on the head. :)

@ Fromhell. You are insignificant in this game. So am I and so is everyone. We are tiny individuals or small groups at best. Maybe it'll change in the future but I hope not.

Isn't this stuff EVE Online?
We don't want E: D to be (too much like) EVE.
Me personally, I find your suggestions appalling.
