Queue of Eternity?

I so appreciate the TMT, but seriously, isn't an One hour & Forty Five Minutes (and still going) a bit crazy for an object to be sitting in the queue? And I thought even 10 minutes was nutz (yep, read the doc on the waiting time). Canceled out and submitted twice. No better.

Unless they make processing of the items local to your machine, times are going to be what they are. Yeah I find it frustrating too especially when i am
doing lots of small tweaks but with it being so popular it is what it is. Maybe they will put more power behind it to improve it, but it's always going to have some wait. 10-15 mins seems fine to me to be honest.

ive had a few items that were stuck uploading for 2 days, before i cancelled. i just left it going.
I really do hate the fact that this TMT is attached to some server somewhere, and theres waiting times.
I thought it when i first watched the Dev stream and they joked that 20minutes isnt a problem, but it really is. its not conveniant in any stretch to wait any longer than 5 minutes.

Us creators, dont like waiting, especially when you model texture and possibly animate in 1 swoop and wish to test out your item. and given how your item can end up with problems once in game, and having to go back and tweak stuff, to reupload and import the item, is just stupid.

I really wish they would just give us a downloadable tool for us to use, with an updater attached too it which they made a fuss about as to why they dont wish too. and in other words they dont want pirates getting their hands on it, but whether they do or not, it will only benefit the games richness in content, so its a win win.

I REALLY miss the old days of gaming. i really do.
today being all online and having things forced upon you to have things running in the background like steam, in order to play games etc, is really annoying for me.
there are pro's such as a virtual game library that you can install your games without fuss of a Dvd disk etc, but everything else is fluff.

Im not entirely a fan that planet coaster has a huge thing for blueprints for steam workshop either. I get why its there, but the fact you cannot group everything as standard such as buildings "with" rides and rollercoasters and the ability to duplicate everything you have grouped, is teadious.
your forced to make a blue print having to go through a system of takign a screenshot, and attaching a price and description etc etc.

Its all about conveniance for us gamers, and not having a long winded process in order to do something as simple as duplicating part of a rollercoaster which i dont think is even possible.
Ive been known to make parts of roller coaster track with scenery designed around it, and wish to group all of it together but you cannot.

there are parts of planet coaster which just seem to be stupid how they have done it. but thats the internet. everything is about sharing content today rather than the classics of old that just leave you too it.
I remember the times of old where if you wanted to duplicate or share stuff. you just swiped and entire area. Save it, and job done. hehe.

I would pay for a local version at this point [mouth shut]. As the night went on, the traffic eased up and wait time was down to 8-10 minutes, which after the previous attempts, was a breeze. Yeah, so 10-15 minutes as you said, is doable.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised myself. I remember the RCT3 days, there was no wait with installing, however, it didn't have a refresh like TMT, so you had to exit RCT3 and reload it for every little change/update you made. Plus, a helluva lot more tedious to get you mod sets put up in general.

Was a different time though.
you say we had to exit RCT3 to get stuff into the game, but Planetcoasters menu's lag like crazy, even for vanilla for me. id prefer to restart my game knowing it was smooth, like rct3 was.
with all the cons that the old classics had. i still prefer the old days. atleast back then you were in control of your game. nowadays your not in control of anything. you dont even own games your buy on steam. your reliant on steam to access your games, and it only takes steam to mess up, and your caput...
lets not mention the fact that when you buy the game initially that was the FULL game. they were the days....

but back on topic. the real reason behind TMT being server based, isnt because of updates. its piracy their trying to stay clear of. although its understandable, TMT is nothing but a tool and you only get a win win situation through content creations, which boosts the games longevity.
i dont think its a big ask for a localised tool, that you can get automatic updates with, perhaps the ability to login with it initially to get around piracy but other than that, having a tool you can just get the job done with thats local will get around the waiting times completely, and makes the experience far more user friendly.

It puts me off working hard on stuff, to wait an hour or more for an item to get processed only to get in game and the item has issues that needs tweeking. having to wait an hour or more takes away your rhythm from tweaking the issues. if there is any.

If anything a tool that has a preview of the built item that you can rotate around and zoom in, would be far better than having to be inside planetcoaster to check if everything is ok.
If like me you have an old pc, i cannot be running 3dsmax / photoshop, and planetcoaster at the sametime.
so a tool with an item round table preview that you can rotate and zoom would be perfect.

I would pay for a local version too. A Creators DLC that has local processing and may it could come with a texture pack so we could match some of the walls and stuff in game properly.

oh gosh please dont give them ideas.
Im broke, and would want this to be free.
We paid for the game already. dont need to purchase more stuff.
if it became a paying service, it will lock alot of people out including myself.

I noticed, that sometimes the item-page is not automatically actualized. So it shows like "in queue", but actually its longtime finished. Best is to jump between the detail page and the all iems page a few times. To be honest all my items are normally uploaded and built between 15-30 minutes - ok I have only simple stuff, so maybe thats why...[big grin]...

Actually I think the TMTK is an amazing tool, and that they provide us that for free is fantastic.

About those walls. I wish they would release the specs. A standard ground tile is easy as heck, but we need the exact grid position to get walls working 100%. The ones I have, and many others in the Workshop align, but with extra steps like dropping the grid height to 0.25m. The only way to get 4x4 default (so the grid square lights that from start), is to put the wall in a 4X4 hitcheck cube, but then, it becomes an invisible obstruction in-game when trying to click on nearby objects. Clearly the walls need no hitcheck as they are the hitcheck , but we just need that grid position. EDIT: I'm getting close.

I doubt they would ever do that. It would be a bit of a shock, but I was being figuratively desperate at the moment.

Yes! I discovered something like this yesterday. I did a refresh and the button went from queue to download..happens once in a while, though. Agree about the tool, it's very easy to use, and I noticed, when I went on after like 1:AM (US ET lol), I was knocking out test objects in a record 3 minutes.

Waiting times at the TMT can be frustrating, especially if the object does not really meet your demands later in the game.

But your thread definitely has something good ... it's great that another companion from the old RCT3 days is back. I'm looking forward to the new TrackWorx objects.

Hey Spanky - glad to see you too! Yeah, I disappear for chunks at a time. Kind of cycle between hobbies. PlanCo just grows amazing with age and draws you back in.

Hehe i think most of us who are of a certain age bracket, who plays planetcoaster, are veterens of RCT3. i mean that was thee game that we fell in love with, and brought out our awesome creativity.
I wasnt involved in modding rct3 with the awesome content others made, but i used their stuff all the time, and as we all know, it brings so much longevity into games when your creativity can go wild with an infinite amount of content to get your tongue wrapped round with.
I was just a kid back then but rct3 is one of my all time favourites.

I know i might hurt peoples feelings, but planetcoaster has along way to go before toppling rct3 off the pedestal given that RCT3 had water parks and zoo's as functional elements of the game. planetcoaster has a way to go, but has indeed toppled the rollercoaster part of rct3.
I just hope with time planet coaster will not only grow its modding community, but that frontier gives a nudge from me that waterpark/swimming complex stuff would be awesomeee....

i believe if im not mistaken that most themeparks nowadays have hotel complexes and within them an entire waterpark that goes hand in hand within themeparks today. wink wink. :)

As for TMT, i think we all agree that we dont like waiting times, but i guess if we keep it on topic frontier will listen and perhaps things will change in the future.
In the meantime, im keeping myself away from TMT, and building my alien Theme set and getting a large chunk of it done. then i can begin the frustrating task to uploading it all through TMT, and fingers crossed without hickups. i still need to work out how Walls work interms of how you export them and import them into the game. Ive read that walls are a nightmare with no clear guide or something.

does anyone know if benches bins and lights a functional thing in planet coaster?

I agree , A good feature complete water park would be something i would willingly buy. It was my favorite part of RCT3.

I've created a simple wall (4x4x0,37m) with a simple texture and no different LODs (just 5 copies of the object which I renamed accordingly). And the TMT took over 40min for processing?! In PlanCo, I unfortunately had to notice that something was wrong with my Object (a lighting issue). So, I had to re-create my object and had to wait further 40min. Sry, that's not motivating me to create more objects for PlanCo. My life is too short to spend hours for converting objects for Planet Coaster.

spoonetti - yeah, sometimes it's a nightmare to wait just to see if the model even worked out, and when it's not up to par, it's back to revision and queue. Yesterday (Tues), everything in the afternoon through evening (US east coast) was over and hour wait. I was figuring, well, everyone and their mother is up at this time, but today, same hours, and the average wait so far is 4-6 min. Go figure.

yup totally agree.

those of us who intend to dedicate ourself with churning out content, cant be waiting long periods just to get it into the game.
And as you realized, in effect it took you 40minutes of waiting time to find out that the model had issues, which meant going back to tweek textures etc, only to wait another lengthy amount of time.

Its just not conveniant.

Its worse for me being on an older computer, as i dont run planetcoaster in the background, while using photoshop, 3dsmax, firefox etc.
so for me its crap how ive got to boot the game up just to see if it works, only to close the game to do tweeks in photoshop etc, just to reupload to TMT and restart the game, just to find out the results.

Its a nightmare.

Not only do i want TMT locally on my computer, but id like a Preview turn table thing integrated, just so i can see my model WITHOUT going into planetcoaster.
that way i odnt have to run steam and planetcoaster just to find out a model needs tweeking :S
Im sure its do able....

Thx for the tipp @JCat. I'll check out the TMT at different times (Germany west coast ;) ).

But in general I hope there will be a way for the devs to fix this problem someday, 'cause I've got so many ideas that I'd like to realize.

I am not sure if this idea is technically realizable. But it really would be useful.

I am not sure if this idea is technically realizable. But it really would be useful.

How do you mean, by technically realizable?
IE having thought about it that way, or whether its possible to do?

IT just be a little program that runs the shaders and games engine, with a Grid turn table, and your model simply appears on that turn table, that allows you to rotate and zoom in on your model. Just a preview of your model with all your textures working etc.
That way you can see if everything is working or not, without having to run planet coaster. Once your content is finished, you can launch the game, and then do as we all do by making the blueprints and uploading them to the Steam Workshop.

It would require a tiny team working on it, but i think if frontier wants Planet coaster to have longevity into the far future, like RCT3 or simcity4 then they should realize that modding is essential. they only have to look at cities skylines, and what modding has done to that game. its improved the game ten fold.

Asset Manager (theme maker "Asset Manager")

I also feel that Frontier should somehow implement a different tool that is a Modding manager. is a tool that looks through the Game directory files to find all your installed Assets, and shows a directory list of statsistics showing the following:
- LOD 1 to 6 Poly counts
- All the textures attached
- how big the Texture maps are

that way the player can find out what assets are NOT optimised that may well cause Lag within the game.

they have this type of tool for cities skylines and other previous games. i believe rct3 had one too.
but please dont make it internal ingame. cuz again it would make it annoying!!!

I meant, if it is (technically) possible to do. I am far away to be a IT specialist. So, it was just a question. ;) Of course, I hope the devs will note your idea! It sounds really interesting![up]

ah ok. gotchya.
Ya it would just be a little game engine turntable program you install as part of the TMT Tool provided it became localised too your PC, where it uses planetcoasters shaders, that allows you to simply rotate and zoom around a point in space, where your model is located thats all. it just needs to show that your model has imported in fine without issues, perhaps with a grid layout on the ground to know if you have aligned everything correctly.
That way theres no need to run the game, everytime you have a model imported.
