Quick-Jump "Wormholes" to jump between different sectors of the Galaxy map

Can you please introduce a way to "quick-jump" from one sector of the Galaxy to another? thereby cutting out game-days of non-stop jumping from one system to the next, in order to get to a different sector within the Galaxy?

This could be done a variety of ways e.g. a wormhole in a particular system of a sector, that allows you to travel to other sectors, maybe requiring your ship to have a particular module, or materials etc. Or simply a module that you could equip to your ship that allows sector jumps.

The idea of exploring the Galaxy has some appeal, but the jumps required to get around are a deal-breaker for me and i suspect many other CMDRs. It would be such a joy to explore if we could get around the Galaxy faster.

(An example of a game that does travel between sectors very well would be Elder Scrolls Online, where you have wayshrines dotted around the playable world that allow you to insta-jump to another part of the world)

My vote is yes with some conditions:

- you can only jump to adjacent sectors
- once you use a worm hole you need to wait 1 hour before using another one

It must not be used to drastically speed up journeys. It should be used to focus on exploration while traveling rather than "Jump-Scoop-Honk" again and again just to reach that particular destination.
And to plan properly a journey.. so you know you want to go to that particular sector, you know it will take that amount of time minimum so you can plan other activities/targets in-between while waiting for the next worm-hole jump.

Aye, and how about you'll have to discover them yourself first? You know, like in good ol' RPG's, do the trip afoot once, unlocking 'fast travel' for future use.
And a chance of some severe hull damage could do, too.
Don't see it happening though. But i'd definately vote yes.

its not days... put the effort in.

No, plus I think Braben at one point said they would not do this as it would take away from the vastness of the Galaxy

I agree

Bearing in mind I only play for a couple of hours a day, it does take days. And its not enjoyable.

I am not a hard-core explorer, I admit that. I am about ready to drop Elite Dangerous altogether as a game, but with the new update and promise of content in other sectors, I would be willing to keep playing and do some exploring, but not based on current mechanics. Life is too short.

Absolutely no. Double no. Wait, tripple it. No, no, no!
Nopedinope.

I see your point but I'm sorry, I'll disagree with the suggestion as it undermines the 'exploration' ethos that appears built into the game.

The thing is, that you can either go somewhere closer to where you are, or go by waypoints and arrive at a later point.
There are games that need some time and that wouldn't be the same with shortcuts. Elite is one of those.
Just like I can't play a horror game when there are people around here and light is on, because it totally breaks immersion, the vast galaxy in Elite is something you need time for to cross. Otherwise there is no accomplishment, no sense of vastness and realism.

Only if they appeared randomly on occasion, and disappeared after a short while, potentially closing behind you.

That's actually a neat idea: temporary wormholes. I'm not a huge fan of "quick travel" in Elite but random short term wormholes showing up and vanishing could honestly be a fun mechanic.

I'm going to vote no as well. Travelling the galaxy is just one of those things that requires dedication. If you want to explore but can't invest the time to cross the galaxy there's still massive amounts of the systems near the bubble that haven't been explored yet. From what I understand Raxxla is meant to be pretty close too, that's a cool thing to try and find. Exploration doesn't have to mean crossing the galaxy.

I've been to Colonia once in the year I've owned the game and it was a great experience. Took me three weeks of casual play. Was it boring at times? Yes. Did I regret making the decision to go at times? Yes. But that feeling of finally arriving and being somewhere I'm sure a lot of players never go. That was a thrill. The emotional journey, the "space-madness", that all plays into what makes this game so great. Making it too easy to travel those distances just lessens that, especially when the core gameplay can be had so close to home.

I'm planning an excursion to Sagittarius A* when Beyond 3.3 goes live. I also have plans to build a self-sustaining deep space "science vessel" to go to Beagle Point some day. I fully respect the players who originally managed to get to Beagle Point. The galaxy is already far easier to traverse than they had it. These kinds of journeys are massive undertakings that should remain achievable only by those who are willing to go the extra mile.

[EDIT] Having read the ideas of random wormholes I have to agree that randomly occurring wormholes that shot you to a random, unknown before you jump location would be a fun thing to have. Permanent wormholes between two known locations is still a big no from me though.

No.

But yes for a daily shuttle service between the Bubble and Colonia with a several hours trip, and why not a weekly shuttle service for some remote outposts (California, Morgan's Rock, Heart & Soul, Trifid/Eagle/Omega...) ? Edit : of course it has to be expensive...
