Racial diversity among the powerplay lead figures

First world problems.. Guys, you think way too much. Get a beer/wine, relax ... and wait for power play. :)

Got to admit I nearly fell off me chair when I saw Archon. Daaamn, this guy looks 200% meaner than I imagined! I will be honoured to fight by his side.

Also, that Lady in the middle.. (Arissa Lavigny?) If I wasn't devoted to Archon already I'd join her in a heartbeat. Attractive!

She is rather handsome..... With short hair, no tiara, and less of a figure she could pass for one of the men.
Blue hair is the best.

I hate to be that guy, but someone has to speak up. I am a bit disappointed by the lack of racial variety in the current power leaders:

I want to make it clear that I am not accusing FD of anything, this was certainly not mal-intended in any way, maybe they even thought about it and possibly have something more in the pipe for future powers, who knows. It is just that this picture looks remarkably... light-skinned; we have one person who looks Asian, and two people seem a bit Mediterranean, but that's it. (Also, 6 out of 10 people in the picture are male.)

I am glad you didn't follow a really bad trope and had made Archon Delaine the only black guy, that would have been really awkward. So let this be just a small heads-up towards FD - good start, but you could still do better.

It is fine for me as it is.
And to be clear, by the definition of race. There is one human race on planet at now.

We all are Homo sapiens sapiens and everybody are equall. And at this point this thread should end.
There is really no need to talk about more or less faces of people from different regions.

Still can't believe there are people being dimwitted in this thread.

OP just inquired about the lack of diversity, he/she didn't say anything NEGATIVE, people crusading in here saying that he/she is calling Frontier out as racist are being insane. Nowhere in the post he/she said that or even insinuated that, those are some insane logical leaps.

The inquiry is just why there is little diversity amongst the 10 figures. As you may be unaware of, people like to relate in fiction. People of races like to relate with characters of their race too, it's not a mystery, it's not something scary, white folk like me like to relate to white folk, but I also like to relate to other folk. Black people the same, Asian people the same, it's nothing unusual. So when there is a lack of diversity, there's also a lack of relation. People like to relate whether in fiction or non-fiction.

Nobody is here to take away your video game or take away characters, it's just an inquiry/something brought to attention, OP isn't accusing anyone of racism yet I've seen posts in here claiming he/she has.

Nobody gives a toss whether you consider all humans equal, a lot of us do, but that has zero to do with diversity/representation. It's that simple. And honestly, it may be difficult to understand that if you're white (like me) when a lot of entertainment that is made is made a lot of the time unconsciously to appeal to you. I didn't notice this at first, but over the years I realised how a lot of stuff is made that automatically represents white folk in the western world so there needs to be a conscious effort to represent others/diversity. It's not replacement, it's addition. That's what diversity is.

People need to grow up a little and realise how people enjoy their entertainment. Science fiction from books to TV have actually been at the forefront of diversity and representation, Elite should maybe add a little more conscious effort to it as well. Science fiction has also always made a lot of social commentary too.

Nobody is "outraged", especially not OP. It was a simple inquiry, some people in this thread turned it into something negative by crusading about accusing OP of accusing Fdev of racism.

I'll always be blown away by people who don't understand what diversity entails and that everyone on this planet likes to relate to parts in fiction. Diversity adds that relation.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but we are talking about 1000 years in the future.

My children have English, Korean, Polish, Russian, and Estonian blood from just the last 3 generations. Probably even more if go back further. Excepting cases where groups of people deliberately avoid racial intermingling then the future of humanity is going to be quite well intermingled. What that will look like is anyone's guess, so i think we can allow some artistic liberty here.

And look at today's generation, sitting indoors playing computer games or arguing on forums *cough* instead of getting out under the sun.... the future might very well be predominantly whiteish.

An interesting side question is, how would people's skins adapt over generations to life under different atmospheric conditions and different spectra of different suns?

It's because the people who see no problem are not trying to impose their will on anyone. People insisting that there is something wrong and demanding that something must be changed are simply trying to force their personal agenda onto others. Why can't you just make your own drawings of the characters and post them here? Then everyone can be happy.

Funny how sharing an opinion very often gets labeled as demanding. I've seen very little demanding from OP. It's a strawman.

Well, there is one leader who is not white, our future ruler, prince Harold.

"I am a bit disappointed by the lack of racial variety in the current power leaders" --> imposing their will on someone.

"Please close the thread." --> not imposing their will on anyone.

I never asked anyone to close the thread. Why are you quoting that? We're discussing a perceived lack of racial diversity amongst the imaginary characters in the game, not just self referencing the thread. The point I am making is that someone, whatever the merit or lack thereof of their point, is telling someone else they've done something wrong and demanding they change it. I say make your own statements in life rather than demanding that other people tailor everything they do to fit your views.

And so at this point I would like to say a few things.

Here is a quote from the text of the closing post from the original threads:
The thread was closed on the basis of it becoming circular, trolling and/or flaming, and was going to lead to racism / sexism coupled along with abusive and disrespectful behaviour.

As you can see, it is pretty accurate.

Also many people have recieved infractions as warned from the start of this thread. Some have accumulated enough points for a temporary ban.

And Now i am going to enjoy the rest of my friday evening away from the forum. Goodnight everyone.

PS. The thread is now closed.
