Radio Music player

I'm glad I searched the forums first, I was going to post about this idea!

I think it would be great, I imagine it working like this:

From the options menu, you would select a folder containing either MP3 files or shortcuts to MP3 files you would like to have play in game. Then (in game) you can access your ship functions and select a music player, from their it could either bring up a track select or start playing a random track. A little bar could come up under the radar that would either display the filename scrolling or the artist and title recovered from the mp3's id3 tags. The player could then chose to skip track, pause, etc. Like a simple Mp3 player.

Now another really important thing would be that the music would be playing from "in the ship" so if the ship lost power or the canopy broke or something the music would stop. It would also be a must to add a slight reverb to the music to create the feeling of the music coming out of speakers in the ship. Sort of like how voice comms have a filter over them. There would also be some considerations to be made such as the fading of music during voice comms and computer speech.

This is an idea I would absolutely love to see implemented.

Ha... be nice if it had an animation of a hand changing tracks to play custom mp3 tracks, or even an old fashion cassette tape ala Guardians of the Galaxy!

I'm in the process of setting up VoiceAttack to play mp3 files. It takes a bit of time get it working the way you like but you can use voice activation to play the song you want, like something relaxing for supercruise, or the classic docking music (blue danube?) when you're coming in to land. Also the asteroid field music from empire strikes back is great for, you know, flying around an asteroid field :)

I think this place is worth a mention too, the blue mars and cryosleep channels are pretty good, used to listen to them loads when I played EVE. http://www.echoesofbluemars.org

I'm using "Command Line Media Controller" with Voice attack it's working with Windows media player, Itunes, vlc and Spotify. easy setup https://commandlinemedia.codeplex.com/documentation.

but a integrated music player is a great idea, anyway.

step 1, google winamp 5.621

step 2 download winamp

step 3 install it

step 4 open it

then you can use your own files

I wouldn't suggest doing the streams as IMO most of them are now offline nowadays =\

how is this integrated and mixed into the cockpit?

The entire point is that it's in-game. Most people in here already listen to their custom music player (of which winamp is probably last on most lists nowadays).
But for us Oculus Rift dwellers, anything outside the cockpit is a pain to deal with and thus much more realistic if part of the ship's controls and SFX.
