Ranking problems is turning me away from this game once again.

Well, instead of the rank grind, have you tried an alternative grind, such as engineering your ship ? Improving the FSD range of your ship for Felicity Farseer would be worth your while .... makes a quality of life experience whizzing around the systems.

OP wants to rank up, suggesting they "play another way" isn't a solution.

Thanks you all, ive tried all the tricks and its been stuck for days. Fed up with it now, going to stop playing i think until its fixed. If it ever does get fixed. Funny because 2 years ago this was broken, i come back after 2 years and its still broken.

Not still... Again. Just bad luck... if you didn't stop playing 2y ago you would probably be admiral and king by now, with a Cutter and Corvette in your hangar.

suggestion?
do board flipping

that helps best up to date

At the point where you are having to log in and out of a game, repeatedly, to refresh content, - and have this condoned by the developer, there is a serious issue with the functional design structure for mission generation and propagation. It is deeply frustrating, time wasting, and utterly devoid of any concept of gameplay. But remember folks, "we don't want to waste your time."

Well let's see, board flip, I know it's a dirty word.

Solo seems to spawn them more.

And best of all think about what systems you're working in. Find a nice empire system or two with either close to, or max # of factions being empire in it and work between those two systems. Get all the empire factions maxed and you will get them faster. If you're in a system with only 1 or 2 factions, well you've limited your chances. I just recently finished both fed and empire, well high enough for all ships. And I had no problem getting missions. Sometimes it took a few runs to get them to show. But with whatever it is 7-8 allied factions in the station I had 7-8 chances every time.

Also be aware now that they should show up in the follow on mission section so be sure you're not skipping over the follow ons when you look for them now.

Logical but not so actual in my recent experience - which is...

I've been at 100% for my current rank for some time now. I looked for the rank up mission when I 1st got to 100% as I always do. Sometimes they show up and sometimes they don't. As OP said, it was like this 2 years ago.

Funny thing is I got a combat-oriented rank up mission while out and about blazing my trail. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't in a ship I felt comfortable doing combat in, nor did I care to pay to transfer one (another will spawn soon enough:cool:), so I passed on this one.

Here's the point of my post: I was only Neutral with the giving faction despite being Cordial, Friendly, and Allied with the other factions aligned with the major faction. So I don't think reputation is part of the equation.

Ye its a known issue and a very annoying one at that...more so because I had expected them to nerf the rep farming from missions, so I did an all nighter few days ago to try and make up the last rank before its cutter time. I know theres guys who do this n that n the other in next to no time, but I play lazy and get distracted by silly stuff, so getting stuff done has never really been one me best points.

But however, I put it into the perspective that I do love the game hard enough to play with the same hardcore habits I played with two decades ago doing private lan parties and playing unreal tournament...full weekend benders fer the terminally addicted.

But ye...passion is a double edged sword, cuts both ways and this bug is a nick in the edge of an otherwise fairly good blade when all is said and done.

I think that sorta says what it needs to say...its annoying but hardly gamebreaking and its not like theres a shortage of other little bits n pieces to be busy with...Ive come to cherish limpets more than onionhead itself. FDev has spoken, thats enough...fly fly away little bitd...be free...

It's not bad luck, it's a 3.03 bug. Rankup missions and Permit missions aren't generating. They're aware and looking into it.

Yea the annoying thing for me is the fact it’s such a major issue, it’s been addressed and we’ve been given no ETA on a patch. I don’t know much about coding but surely this is a simple serverside fix and doesn’t even require a patch to be pushed out right? I’m really confused as why a broken game system as important as rank up / permit missions which engineers are locked behind aren’t being given a top priority and if they are why aren’t they fixed yet? It doesn’t appear to be something that would be difficult to fix. If it was the new mission delievery system that broke it (that will apparently make them easier to spot, Cuz they was so difficult to spot on the message board lol) then just roll back to pre patch system.

I'm confused why you think it's not top priority, do you have any proof it isn't? Any proof the proper people to deal with the issue aren't all over it? And can you provide any evidence supporting your theory of it being such an easy fix? Why don't you send in this "easy fix" and be the hero of ED?

Sometimes bugs take awhile to fix, especially if you made a fundamental change to underlying systems and don't want to roll back the change. It seem they clearly wanted to make rank missions less of a problem. Unfortunately a bug came up when it went live and now they are trying to fix it and keep their new system if possible, that's my guess.

Or should they just rush out a naval mission fix because you care while not caring what else can be affected? But hey naval missions work who cares if it breaks the whole board otherwise? Is the naval rank mission code that is isolated from every other part of the game?

But yeah I'm sure FDev just said "oh rank missions? Pfffft screw those people." I imagine Braben and the whole staff with feet kicked up on the table, having a laugh, maybe a drink, or tea and crumpets. They are probably wTching the forum and even spying on people in game doing rank grinding. Just laughing their asps off. All while keeping one eye on the ticker watching the stock prices just soar, counting all that sweet sweet $$$. Makes perfect sense right.

FD have stated that it is a priority. There is a message in-game about it to this effect.

Yeah I saw, I'm sure some here think that's a lie, just trying to sweep it under the rug, cause FDev doesn't care you know. probably gearing up for a class action as we speak. :D

The notice saying they are "working on it as a priority" has been taken down when you log in, so it looks like they have it up and running.
