Ranking the areas still requiring animals

Truthfully I don’t think frontier ever intended having equal amounts of animals from every continent. Every real life zoo I’ve ever been to has been dominated by African animals. Followed by South America and Asia. North America always has a couple and Australia and Europe is either present or for the most part nonexistent.

This is why I never understand the high demand for a New Zealand pack. They're not even common in zoo's.

Hot take: Animal packs and the selection in game would suffer if they would be 1 per continent.
Wetlands pack gave us 2 SA, 1 Africa, 1 Europe, 1 northern Asia, 1 Australia 2 SEA
I’d say they did a great job making an aquatic biome theme that gave us great biome combos and used 1 per continent minus Antarctica

I think the Tasmanian devil, emu, wombat, and perentie are still very likely animals by the end of production. Possibly the wallaby as well. My local zoo is dominated by Africa and North America being a US zoo. A couple Asian and South American animals. Are only Australian animals I can think of are 3-4 wallabies in a walkthrough enclosure and a couple birds. We do currently have San Diego zoos koalas for the summer but they’ll be back in San Diego sometime within the next month.

Oceania would be passable in my eyes with as little as the emu and Bennet's wallaby, but that would only get it to bare minimum status. I'd personally also want to see a minimum of two (but ideally all) out of wombat, devil, echidna, and tree kangaroo, and then the kiwi as well so that NZ isn't totally forgotten. I think that's a beautiful looking animal pack, and would be a perfect sendoff to the region. There's always more that could be done (I want the black swan but not before any of these), but I'd be ecstatic at that point.

Meanwhile, South America could get its own animal pack and would still be just scratching the surface. MENA could maybe get away with a scenery pack (although of course more animals are always welcome).

All of this sort of talk is starting to fill me with a sense of dread, though, because I'm only going to anticipate 11 more species before support ends until we have evidence to the contrary, and that sure isn't many species.

Even though Oceanian animals might not be as represented in EU (although I think it is getting a bit better, my local zoo has Kiwis, Dingoes, Cassowaries, Emus as well as Red Kangaroos, meanwhile out main city Zoo has Echidnas, Tasmanian Devils and Wombats - all of that in a small European country), Planet Zoo was never meant to be an European Zoo simulator (or NA for that matter), rather than build a zoos all over the world kind of thing. Therefore Oceania surely deserve more than what it currently has.

And I get it...it is easy to dismiss a continent if you personally dont care about it (e.g. being an European and building mostly European Zoos, so Emu and Wallaby would be mostly fine), but...there are also players in Oceania that would also like to build their native zoos.

I'd argue Oceania doesn't need to get a lot more, just a few more. South America on other hand... well that's just sad.
I have to agree, I think an animal pack would be great for Oceania and having an additional 7 animals, including a couple from New Zealand, would pretty much cover the main wants and needs. We can't really expect 20 to 30 animals from Oceania after all. Not belittling it, but really, there's a reason that Africa and Asia are so largely represented in the game, because that's the way it is in real life zoos.

South America though, yeah, there's some major wants there, but ultimately there's more animals that I see being mentioned or wanted from South America than there are for Oceania. We could probably get two full animal packs from South America and it wouldn't cover it all.

The main thing with me, is I badly want an Oceania pack because it is so under represented, and its animals fare better on my own personal want list than any other continent, over all. Oddly enough, my top 10 has 3 Oceanias, 3 African and 3 south American animals (the other being a wolverine), and my top 20 has 5 of each of these, and a total of 5 from North America (if you count the wolverine in with that). But after that? Yeah, Oceania gets outnumbered quickly.

What Oceania is mainly lacking for me, are the emu and wallaby. In my experience these are very common zoo animals, even for zoos that do not have a dedicated Oceania / Australia area.

Personally I'd love the Tasmanian devil, but I've never seen them in real life.

Looking at the meta wishlist, these are the top 20 South American animals right now, plus 4 because there are two sloths, three armadillos, and two coatis.
  1. Maned wolf
  2. Linnaeus two-toed sloth
  3. South American coati
  4. Black howler monkey
  5. West Indian manatee
  6. Golden lion tamarin
  7. Ocelot
  8. Spectacled bear
  9. Nine-banded armadillo
  10. Brown-throated three-toed sloth
  11. Greater rhea
  12. Patagonian mara
  13. Geoffroy's spider monkey
  14. Southern tamandua
  15. Bush dog
  16. Collared peccary
  17. Guianan squirrel monkey
  18. Kinkajou
  19. Giant armadillo
  20. Green sea turtle
  21. Scarlet ibis
  22. White-nosed coati
  23. Roseate spoonbill
  24. Three-banded armadillo
Looking at this list, how would you divide them into packs? Bonus points if you can fit 2 animal packs and 1 scenery pack!
NOTE: You can ONLY pick 1 sloth, 1 coati, and 1 armadillo.

EDIT: Actually, let's make this a new thread :)

So, what should have a priority now? The wombat is a huge buff for Australia, but we'd still need the emu and Tassie, and the kiwi and tuatara would complete that area of the world.

North Africa requires the dromedary and striped hyena. What else?

South America requires a while bunch

Oceania is filling out slowly but nicely. I think the middle east and south america need the most focus. Depending on the other membrs of the DLC, Europe could use a bit more animals as well.
