Rant Time

Y'know what really ticks me off? When you sink countless hours into building up your arsenal, only to have it wiped out in one fell swoop. To make it worse, I only get one chance to repurchase my ship. FIX YOUR poopoo, FRONTIER!! Add an insurance agent/contact or something that can give other players the opportunity to repurchase their ship. Until then, you will receive no more of my business. Good day, and thank you for making me waste my time.
Can you still get a loan with a high rank or did they get rid of that. Because if I recall there's already a system in place for this. Plus you can sell other ships now and just file a claim on your ship minus some internals. So like, new rule is "dont fly ships worth more than your loan amount unless you're okay with not getting back all the components"

Got to say, I am very impressed with the current inhabitants here. As soon as I read the OP (and stopped laughing) I was expecting one of the first responses to be "Oh, put a ticket in to Customer Support, give them a sob story and they will give you your ship back" Lets just say I detest, with unholy venom, that sought of advice

Fair comment, I suppose.

In this new "fluffy bunny" paradigm that FDev seem intent on creating, maybe there could be some kind of "Insurance Log" of your destroyed ships and then, even after a ship gets exploded and you don't have the rebuy, you could earn the required credits and then go to an "Insurance Agent", click on the ship you want to rebuy and get it back.

Basically, it'd just give players a chance to correct a mistake - and learn from it - without losing a ship they've put a heap of effort into.

Course, OTOH, I'm also in favour of people not getting engineered modules back after a rebuy. 🤪
Well if we're are being fair, that fact that you're at the rebuy screen implies to me that the engineered mods didn't help too much anyways lol

I find the learning curve and risk/difficulty of Elite Dangerous a refreshing departure from the typical ease of play of most games. Discovery/death/experience can be very enjoyable for some people. Every game has rules, some games just don't make them all obvious. "Never fly without a rebuy". Most of us have been there :)
If you don't feel the urge to rage-quit this game at some point, then you're not playing THIS game :D
"Dangerous" is in the name... risk/reward is .. well.. mostly risky :)

At no point was it implied that if I couldn't afford to rebuy my ship, that I would lose the ship permanently.

one fundamental suggestion for this game, op: read the fine print, never make assumptions. and if you have to make only one assumption, let it be this: stuff will work in some convoluted way which is not how i would expect.

case in point, insurances: there is one, and it is incredibly lenient (you can crash your ships over and over to practically no loss!) ... it just doesn't work as you would expect an insurance to work.

an extra suggestion: most of what the game has to offer can be enjoyed in the free sidewinder. everything else is just for the kicks and, if you ask me, mostly bloat. exception are ship launched fighters, you need at least a keelback for that (which i recommend, and is a mere 2.5 million credits and can be crashed for peanuts).

So what you are saying is you died with lack of funds to buy back your ship. Ok who fault is this again?

You're asking for something that is already there. You chose to ignore the mechanic or failed to read the manual. You're asking them to fix something that isn't broken.
