Rapid Fire Phasing Sequence Pulse Lasers after 2.2.0.3

...now overheat like hell!

Patch notes:

- Rapid Fire Rate of Fire range reduced, maximum still 40%- Rapid Fire Damage penalty increased
- Rapid fire WEP draw reduction reduced, (-30-50% to -30-40%)
- Rapid Fire Hardness piercing increase removed
- Rapid fire now speeds up reload times (-50-65% at G5)
- Reduce multiplier on Phasing sequence by 20%

No words on heat generation.

Before I was able to blow up three T-9s in a row without reaching 100% heat. Now I can't even kill one...

I was happy to finally find a weapon that was effective at both PvP and PvE but now it is totally useless.

What is going on FD?

Grrr ... was just about to engineer this effect to two of my Heavy Pulses. I'm already having to manage a heavy multi cannon with Incendiary Rounds that triples its normal heat output so this is not good news.

What ship are you in?

Corvette. I have a full rapid fire pulse laser loadout apart from one small SCB cancelling railgun. Well, I actually have a full set of these for the "big three" but the Vette proved to manage heat better of them all. I'm not even going to try installing them on the Conda and the Cutter now...

Did you have other weapon mods that were changed? Maybe your thermal handling was changed somewhere else and the weapons are just a side effect?

Yes, but some mods were changed in the patch and those changes applied retroactively. I'm not aware of any offhand that changed thermal loads/efficiency, but there might have been.

I don't see any patch notes on Dirty Drives or Overcharged Power Plants either. Actually nothing on heat increases at all.

Does the Vette typically run cool? The Python does, but after a G5 DD tune and a heavy multi with Incendiary Rounds its gettin a little warm on that bridge. Now you're saying the heavy pulses are running hot too after RF mods ... does everything good end up cooking your ship FD?

What I don't get is there's nothing in the patch notes about increased heat. What are the new Engineering variables? Is there a Heat scale? If not, where's it coming from?

Oh yes! The Vette is the king of cool! As I said previously, with same weapon loadout the Vette could shoot longer than Conda or Cutter without overheating. She's even better at fuel scooping with everything overcharged too. Before I could even boost and shoot although not for too long (better keep her in the blue zone) but now it's just insta boil...

I'll need to fly to Broo and see what's changed. Maybe reroll a couple of pulses too in case FD messed something up when applying the changes. I'll also dig out my storage T-9 that holds my Clean Drives and find that care bear tree hugging power plant somewhere in the galaxy...

Gotcha. So you've only noticed the end result ... not after having just modded it.

I'm heading to him in the next few hours so will find out I guess.

Weapon draw REDUCTION. There you have your heat - Meaning you need more Pips to Weapons to keep em cool if its possible at all.

More Pips in Weaps -> faster Weapon cooling in general.

Cheers!

Ta. I've got a G5 Charge Enhanced Distributor so hopefully that'll help.

Just bang in an efficient beam into your setup, with thermal vent secondary; this should counteract the heat.

Yup, that could work ... as long as you hit something, otherwise the heat is retained and you'll probably exploded knowing what engineered ships are like.

Its the increased distributor draw, weapons are losing power and there for heating up faster than they use to. I'm glad I switch to 4 G5 Efficient Regenerative Sequencing Beams on my FDL, I was running hot enough as it is with 4 G5 Rapid Fire Phase Sequencing Pulses before the nerf, even occasionally overheating. I can fire all 4 beams and my G5 Overcharged Corrosive Multi until the distributor is drained and barely go over 80% and that's with a almost 40% weapon recharge.

Funniest part is that my Efficient Beams have roughly the same if not slightly higher DPS as my Phase Sequencing pulses. Just can't cause bleed damage any more but I play often in a wing and being able to instantly restore friendly shields is much better.

My Corvette with OC everything (literally) & 8 OC MC's (one class 4 is incendiary) shows no perceivable difference in heat post 2.2.03.

I have 3 rapid fire pulses on my FDL. Still effective against shields, but they are now noticeably less effective against armour.

As for phasing sequence....it joins thermal cascade on the engineer scrap heap. The tiny amount of damage bleed through isn't worth the laser's 10% damage penalty for having the effect.

Can confirm, phasing was doing between 10-15% hull damage in on full distributor before update(on FDL hull), tested it again after the update and did 4% hull damage with the same amount of energy from distributor against thr same loadout

Seems liked they over nerfed it, plus I'm getting more heat now too

I had 1 huge, 3 medium, all rapid phasing

FDev's initial talk was that no-one would be forced to re-roll.... they believed previous builds would be viable.... this is clearly not the case.... rapid fire has way too many drawbacks now.

I spent days of effort building a quad FDL phasing + mc build.... its now trash ... i'm back on my quad overcharged MC + efficient beam .... DPS is up 30% and heat is massively reduced.

I really enjoyed my phasing build ... how it worked, how it felt.... very sad that with the heat, jitter, nerfed damage it is now just useless :(
