General / Off-Topic RCTWorld General Discussion

It is a real shame how things have turned out. I was hoping for some healthy competition for Planet Coaster to spur each others development on.

I guess Parkitecht is the only competition now...[ugh]

I think we all were, but Frontier have always wanted to build a new Theme Park Game on their own, without the restraints of an outside publisher like it was when they built RCT3. As we have all seen from the Dev Blogs, these guys are very passionate and dedicated to everything they do and want to put into the game. So whether RCTW sinks or swims, I don't think it will have any influence on Planet Coaster. Frontier have the game planned out for the future and will gain full support from everyone who loves this genre, one the word gets spread. For those who are remaining loyal to the Atari franchise, then good luck to them, but I think eventually, they will be coming to Planet Coaster, with their tails between their legs, when RCTW is a dying duck.

Any news on UGC in PC?...

It's a planned feature after the initial release. The goal at the moment is to give everyone who buys the game the tools and materials to make everything in game rather than having to import anything. Judging by the awesome creations I have already seen I am questioning if we will ever need UGC support [tongue]

Happy to hear that. Was afraid for a DLC-party (*kuch* Elite: D) with the 95+(?) themes.

Any news on UGC in PC? Would be an instant-buy for me if they implement that very soon. It's the main reason why I like RCTW. Today I started working on an Americana styled entrance Piece-by-piece pack. Note that it needs to be textured and it's missing pieces. Just wanted to build a quick draft with the pieces. [tongue]

Well make the most of it, because I don't think RCTW has any future, compared to Planet Coaster. You can have all the UGC you want, but if the structure of the base game is bad, plopping fancy buildings around the park, isn't going to improve the playability of the game.

Well the base game is clearly really strong, but in the end what makes a game live more than a decade like RCT3 are great gameplay mechanics combined with UGC that allow your game to be constantly full of content.

As for myself, I love recreating rides from Disneyland, and as great as the game currently is some items will have to be created as UGC being far too specific for any dev to waste time designing it.

I really hope UGC makes its way into PC!

hi,

I agree it would make a near perfect game 'perfect' for me! But it's amazing what you can do with the small amount of pieces the game already has.

since you're enjoying the UGC in RCTW, can you show me some examples of what people have managed to build with it? I just googled and couldn't find anything very spectacular. Also tried looking for dark rides on YouTube but nothing came up. I would have thought there would at least be partially enclosed coasters by now.

The 95 themes were an exaggeration. There are a lot of themes planned for launch but not nearly that many.

Which ones? With the right tools, we could get very close to building something like Pirates of the Caribbean or it's a small world. I'd much rather the developers work on flexible dark rides tools than just letting it all go to UGC. UGC is important but if we truly want an evolved simulation, everything shouldn't be like RCT3. I want to see how much flexibility the developers can give us in the game, since that is what we're paying for.

I saw this on their forums.

Yea I saw that. But it's really just a model placed for the sake of it. Hasn't anyone made something out of smaller pieces with coasters threaded through, indoor paths and queues etc? An indoor food court perhaps? And if not, what's holding people back?

Silvarette is one of the best creators, who have made some fantastic videos of Planet Coaster so far. Skye Storme is another guy who has designed a brilliant looking park, and these are with just the two themes building pieces that are in the early access. With more themed building pieces to come, who knows what will be created in this game. It has everything going for it without UGC, but if that does come eventually, then it is going to be truly, one ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎ of a game.

I know I tried doing Pirates of the Caribbean, and it looks really good, but despite that, I remain on my position: what keeps a game alive for a long time is the great gameplay combined with UGC. Since we are so many users, you get thousands of items created and so many can fit your personal preferences!

I would definitely prefer the developers working on making UGC easy to make and to integrate even if it costs us a few scenery items they planned to put in the game.

As for specific recreations, you will be able to recreate pretty much anything, but some items will have to be created specifically for that. If you take a look at Pirates of the Caribbean, here is a list of stuff that would be needed to recreate the attraction properly:
-necessary: the entrance sails, pirate animatronics, fires, real black walls like those from the dark ride RCT3 pack, some specific water effects, ...
-optional: some additional pirate sceneries (we can't expect the devs to create 1000 items per theme), the right walls with the right texture, additional stones, interior/fake looking trees, ...

So yeah you'll be able to do a lot without UGC, but I really feel like it's a vital need for a game like PC.

In a weird way, I actually don't want UGC at launch simply because it means that we'll be more likely to get more than enough scenery items for all of the themes, which contrasts to RCTW where they're relying on UGC to have enough content. As someone who never really used UGC in RCT3, it's not really an important feature for me anyway, but I do agree with some people on here that UGC is what keeps the game alive for so long so I do want some form of post launch UGC update, which allows us to easily add UGC content from in game. I do believe that's what Frontier will do anyway and part of the reason why they're leaving it until post launch is so they can properly think it out and not just sling it in last minute for the sake of it

I do agree with you, while I would love to immediatly have UGC at launch, I wouldn't mind if it came only a few weeks/months after release since i believe that the economic aspect, the scenarios, the first sceneries we have and so on are more than enough to keep me interested in the game for that long.
However not having UGC at all would be a real pain and would hurt my interest in the game as it would lose on of the big aspects that made RCT3 great.

Exactly, in addition to that, when the voxel terrain tool is added in, it's going to take the game to a whole new level. I'm stupidly excited about the terrain tool and cannot wait to get my hands on it! I cannot even begin to imagine what the talented builders will be able to do with it.

Yes we will see people creating a big T Rex and other Dinosaurs, Dragons, you name it, as well as some fantastic Mountains and Cave systems

So I played a friends copy of RCTW last night and I have to say that I had a good time playing it. Not because the game is good but because it's so unbelievably bad that you can't help but descend into a fit of laughter. But it isn't long before all that disappears and the frustration and anger sets in.

Graphically, it really does look as bad as all the videos show it to be. My friends PC is a high end computer and even then it still looked awful so how some can say the game looks great is beyond me. Although there is the odd item that looks good, most that I played around with looked so bland and uninteresting. We've all seen the comical videos of the games peeps so I won't say much about them other than that they really are as bad as the videos make them out to be. I can think of nothing positive to say about them. The game does have a decent amount of scenery items but when most of it looks so bad you just can't care about its existence.

From a gameplay perspective it is just such an infuriating game to play. Not being able to select the position of your rides entrances and exits makes planning your park layout quite difficult as you have to take into consideration when building your pathways. And with such a bad path builder, it's hard to get anything payed out in a decent manner. Paths don't glue together so building a plaza is impossible and if you want to build an eating area then you are stuck with those crappy looking prefab picnic areas. And if you want to make a wider path at a later point in time, forget about just dragging the wider path over the existing path. You have to delete the path and start again. The camera is also pretty poor, especially in coaster builder when it has a tendency to move all over the place.

For all the negatives, there are a few positives. There are some nice management options and in the hands of a more competent developer I do think the coaster builder could become quite a powerful tool, but all that counts for nothing when everything around it is broken. Playing the game, it's easy to tell that it was made by people who know nothing about theme parks, have no interest in the genre and can't really be bothered to put much effort in. Almost everything looks like minimal effort was put into the design and implementation. I suspected this would be the case before playing but now it's fully clear that no amount of patches will save this game. It's so broken that the only way to get this to a decent standard would be to chuck it out and start again. I honestly would rank RCTW as one of the worst games I have ever played.

Give it a month and my bet is that no one will really be interested in it and will just give up with it. I mean, who is seriously going to enjoy a game like that.
