Re: Abuse in space

I've not turned the filter off but having words with **** I can fill in those blanks lol. I was just really annoyed. My evening was spoilt by a stupid person.

Geeeez!

Evening spoiled by someone you don't know making sounds you don't appreciate in a game.

Can you say SNOWFLAKE?

Word of advice Paxton - grow a thicker skin. Someday you're gonna need it for real.

Have to agree with @Lateralus, who cares what a rude person says? Technically it is not them that annoyed you, it is yourself, because you made the choice of allowing them to affect you with mere words.

We cannot control how other people behave and, unfortunately, when online there's always people like this. All we can control is how we personally are impacted by them. Choose the high road and just go about your business without letting it get under your skin.

I find this behaviour by other people online both juvenile and rude, but don't waste my time reporting or reacting. Do that, and they win, because what they wanted was to get some kind of reaction.

Also should point out that this is a global game and different cultures have different reactions to various profanity. The Australians and Irish folks I have associated with over the years, for example, are incredibly foul mouthed by my (mid-western United States) standards. It's just cultural differences you gotta learn to accept sometimes.
Haha, and you Midwesterners are appallingly vulgar by my genteel southern suburban cultural roots... ;)

Nah, in the modern world the F-bomb is now the vernacular, and the bar keeps slipping lower and lower. You have to adapt eventually, or go full hermit. I've definitely considered going full hermit a few times, though not for profanity.

Crude language and slang have been the norm since forever. It's what happens when language rolls up its sleeves and gets to work.

Yo-ho! Sad as it may sound to some, I truly love discussions like this. I would be glad to have set it off if not for it being off-topic. Ho-hum.
:)
Yes, I hear you! As a former proofreader, these types of discussions were commonplace among editors, writers, and other proofers. Always had to consider context and audience. What's great about the English language is it is extremely nuanced and not always as straightforward as one might think. In any case, less clickity clackity and more pew pew!

Good evening fellow commanders

So far I've never encountered any problems with the chat in game. I've always found the players who I encounter to be kind courteous and helpful until tonight that is

I'm on my way to MAIA to buy a meta alloy so I can get the engineer section opened up. as I was talking someone popped into the chat and said some rather horrid English words that I'd rather not repeat

Am I being unreasonable to report the player in game?

sigh, The Game is Elite Dangerous, not Elite Snowflake, just turn on Censorship in your comms menu, and watch all the potential triggering comments disappear!

ild find it disgusting when censorship is forced down my throat, but i understand kids play the game , so i think FD did the right thing and have it toggelable
+1 to FD

I've always worn my heart on my sleeve which has often led to my being upset where the thick skinned would just laugh and not bat an eyelid. I'm a father now and four children to raise I would hope they embrace the kindness of spirit our hearts have. I understand that I'm not me while I'm hiding behind a virtual name and that anything said to me is not a personal get at, how could it be, but still I wear my heart on my sleeve and sigh with exasperation that there is a soul sat at a keyboard like myself who is not kind, and it saddens me. I refer to my children as they are our future as were we to our parents. Whom ever that person was has a heart that is not kind and I pray he/she wakes up one morning and finally gets it. Hate spreads hate and love spreads love but love will always be greater than hate could ever be. P. S I've never heard darth vader swear and he's the king of the dark side

My genitals are in the right place and yes "snowflake" is a word which describes a crystalline structure of water that has frozen in its way down to settle on the surface of our planet.

Im unsure what you mean by what ever happened to men today.. Real men are the ones who cry..

I appreciate if someone upset you with abusive chat, and it must be even more difficult to deal with if you're affected by autism, but it's surprisingly sage advice... as Warren Buffet has been quoted:

You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power Is sitting back and observing things with logic. True power is restraint. If words control you that means everyone else can control you. Breathe and allow things to pass (apparently attributed to Warren Buffet)
