I just bought one of these it arrived yesterday was playing a game for nearly 2 hours when the Hubs leds went out & the game buzzed crashed to home i then realised my ssd drive was not recognised so restarted xbox still drive not seen & hub still not working anyway plugged drive into pc & noticed the partition was damaged & had to reformat (their was no MBR) so lost all my save games & in the middle of re-installing everything nearly greet-in (as we say in Scotland) so be careful it doesn't happen to you[cry]

Did you have anything plugged into the USB3.0 sockets on the add-on? I think that there's a power socket on the back of the add-on to supply the extra power required by the sockets.

Yes m8 followed the instructions but i never used an external psu , it started working again after 3 attempts but i don't want to take the chance connecting the drive again on a plus side all my game saves are not lost :D

<phew>

Very glad to hear that!

Sorry to hear that you're having problems with it - my son has been thrashing the one I bought for about eight months without any problems.

Not your fault mate its faulty will be sent back was just panicking that my drive was broke & save games lost, sorry was a silly post doesn't mean they all will be the same

i just got my sshd yesterday and promptly copied elite, destiny and the witcher 3 on to the drive. This morning the drive was not recognised, had to format it after trying everything i could think of! Just hope my save data is stored online and NOT the console as you'll hear me do the kirk version of Khannnnnnn shortly!

Agree. Got a 468GB external a couple months ago.

Fallout 4 startup was so fast I couldn't believe it. Some games in Black Ops 3, depending on connection, I was able to load in first to a map and get to B flag (domination) even before the other team loaded in.

Battlefront loading time for maps and startup cut by more than half.

And lastly (and most importantly here), Elite: Dangerous loads much quicker than the stock Xbox One drive. I barely get to see my orange asp rotating anymore the game starts up so quickly.

Good info :)

In the last year I've been using SSDs for all of my computing needs and it's really improved a lot of things for me.

Been hearing how the Xbox experience can be drastically improved with one and keen to give it a go. Good to hear people have been having (in the main) a positive experience, little bit miffed that yet again we are back to the upgrade race but sure no one wants to hear that train of thought hehe.

Will check back in this thread for recommendations of specific drives / makes. guessing it won't really make a difference to the bugs that are nipping me the most but looking forward to trying this out when I eventually re-enter the fight :)

Anyone know what the actual tangible increase in load times and performance is? I'm mainly talking about initial load into the game with your ship spinning. I'm guessing the drop into systems is more server side and connection related.

-k
This is what I want to know also. I don't care as much that I have to stare at my spinning ship to load the game. What I DO care about is how long it takes the game to do the following:
  • Load screen when jumping system-to-system
  • Load screen when jumping out of frame shift
  • Loading the galaxy map
  • Loading the system map
  • Loading your contact pictures from the mission/bulletin board
  • Load the Galactic Powers Menu
  • Load the Tabs from your aligned faction PP Menu

If buying an external SSD helped curb the lag I would buy one on the way home today.

The only one I can give a definitive answer to is the load screen jumping system-to-system, it's 34.4 secs the same as the PC. The others all seem to depend where you are, deep space - light population - heavy population.
Fly fast and have fun CMDR's[arrrr]
