Who says Elite cant provide neck breaking, adrenaline filled experiences?
For the record, I am a lame shot, competent, perhaps effective even, but no more than that.
Tangled with 4 Anacondas and 1 Fer De Lance in a Hazardous RES, my mistake, while 3 of the Anacondas were in a wing, a 4th one was accompanied by the Fer de Lance. So, I attacked one of the Anacondas in the wing, but switched to another one on the fly because it flew in front of me and since the 3 were already firing, switching was no issue, however the mistake was that this Anaconda was in a wing with the FDL and it happily joined at shooting.
Well, one Anaconda went down along with my shields after the last SCB was fired, my 2 cannons pulverized the FDL and it blew quickly; 3 Anacondas where firing at my at the same time as I finished the Fer de Lance, my hull was at 75% and going down, in desperation rammed one of the Anacondas and managed to hook to it so started firing quickly at close range and it blew up as well. The ramming and the remaining Anacondas worked my hull down to 40% and my FSD declared that it was not going to work anymore, my shields were collapsed since a while ago, and had my secondary SCB was offline, my PIPs were in engine and weapons, I abandoned defense prepared to go down as fire and metal was falling from my Corvette and escaping was no longer an option. My canopy wasn't able to withstand all that punishment at that point and simply shattered along with my pressure and the oxygen that kept me alive.
My hull was at 18% when the Third Anaconda blew up and turned my ship towards the last one; I am sure that pilot felt a cold sweat running down his spine, because I simply boosted to it while firing and screaming ready to visit whatever deity wished to have me under its wing. The last Anaconda exploded, however all was far from over, my hull was at 10%, my air wont last for no more than 6 minutes, right there I wished to have purchased the C class Life Support module; my Frame Shift Drive was taken out as well, so whatever I was going to do, needed to be done here. In big ships its always wise to carry a Field Maintenance Unit and so I did as well, however the bloody piece of metal was taken out in the fight and all I could see was my time running out, mercilessly. My last choice was to reboot the ship and hope for the best. After the reboot, the FSD was at 1% and I hit the Super Cruise switch hoping to make it to the station that was at some mere 90 Light Seconds away, in my mind I could still do it, however the FSD refused to engage, no matter how many times I pushed the switch.
I was starting to get really concerned at this point, but my machine didn't abandon me at all, the FSD engaged and I was on my way to the station with no more than 4 minutes remaining. To everyone that have been in this situation, guiding the ship in Super Cruise without a HUD is a pain in the , it is easy to confuse the distance, relative speed and position, so you usually overshot the station as I just did right there, little less than 2 minutes remaining. I think I felt real happiness when the "Safe Disengage" appeared and I left Super Cruise. Boosting to the station hoping to not make a blunder because I entered from the side, didn't have the time to line the ship in super cruise, luckily I did it right and went trough the mail slot without scratching the borders or hitting the sides. Atmospheric restored, landed on pad 9 and I simply melted on my seat, sweaty, tired, and smiling from side to side. Those 400.000 credits on repairs were given with appreciation, I stored my trusty Corvette, my Hammerfall, you didn't fail me, I will accompany you to the end of the galaxy if needed.
So yeah, the Corvette is a magnificent ship. Now, I will go out and enjoy some safe Earth air and atmosphere we all take for granted.
