Ships Rear Admiral's lounge

Nice story :)
That's why i usually use A-grade life suport on all ship which do not have vulture-level power issues.
Also noticed that FSD is probably located in a bad spot on corvette, NPC-s usually take it out fast, had completely destroyed FSD with 50% hull remaining...

That is a noteworthy statement from arguably the biggest FDL-ophile on the forum. Although I have read a quite few posts from Commanders saying it is like a larger version of the FDL.

Ive currently got A rated versions of the FDL and Conda. Just earned the Rear Admiral rank yesterday so once the extra credits are in the bank I'll have to give it a try.

Biggest FDL-ophile?? who... me???? 'looks around all innocently' I guess I do tend to rant on about it a little too much..lol

But yes, even in my video of the Corvette, I make many comments that the corvette is just a larger, slower FDL on steriods.. But my god its tough, especially with prismatics, 2 class 7 SCB's and a battelships worth of HRP's..

Put full pips to shields, and this thing just takes a pounding, and hitting one shot of the SCB gets 1 and a half rings back (almost half your shields) I havent even lost my shields once yet, even against a wing of 3 anacondas.

Who says Elite cant provide neck breaking, adrenaline filled experiences?

For the record, I am a lame shot, competent, perhaps effective even, but no more than that.

Tangled with 4 Anacondas and 1 Fer De Lance in a Hazardous RES, my mistake, while 3 of the Anacondas were in a wing, a 4th one was accompanied by the Fer de Lance. So, I attacked one of the Anacondas in the wing, but switched to another one on the fly because it flew in front of me and since the 3 were already firing, switching was no issue, however the mistake was that this Anaconda was in a wing with the FDL and it happily joined at shooting.

Well, one Anaconda went down along with my shields after the last SCB was fired, my 2 cannons pulverized the FDL and it blew quickly; 3 Anacondas where firing at my at the same time as I finished the Fer de Lance, my hull was at 75% and going down, in desperation rammed one of the Anacondas and managed to hook to it so started firing quickly at close range and it blew up as well. The ramming and the remaining Anacondas worked my hull down to 40% and my FSD declared that it was not going to work anymore, my shields were collapsed since a while ago, and had my secondary SCB was offline, my PIPs were in engine and weapons, I abandoned defense prepared to go down as fire and metal was falling from my Corvette and escaping was no longer an option. My canopy wasn't able to withstand all that punishment at that point and simply shattered along with my pressure and the oxygen that kept me alive.

My hull was at 18% when the Third Anaconda blew up and turned my ship towards the last one; I am sure that pilot felt a cold sweat running down his spine, because I simply boosted to it while firing and screaming ready to visit whatever deity wished to have me under its wing. The last Anaconda exploded, however all was far from over, my hull was at 10%, my air wont last for no more than 6 minutes, right there I wished to have purchased the C class Life Support module; my Frame Shift Drive was taken out as well, so whatever I was going to do, needed to be done here. In big ships its always wise to carry a Field Maintenance Unit and so I did as well, however the bloody piece of metal was taken out in the fight and all I could see was my time running out, mercilessly. My last choice was to reboot the ship and hope for the best. After the reboot, the FSD was at 1% and I hit the Super Cruise switch hoping to make it to the station that was at some mere 90 Light Seconds away, in my mind I could still do it, however the FSD refused to engage, no matter how many times I pushed the switch.

I was starting to get really concerned at this point, but my machine didn't abandon me at all, the FSD engaged and I was on my way to the station with no more than 4 minutes remaining. To everyone that have been in this situation, guiding the ship in Super Cruise without a HUD is a pain in the , it is easy to confuse the distance, relative speed and position, so you usually overshot the station as I just did right there, little less than 2 minutes remaining. I think I felt real happiness when the "Safe Disengage" appeared and I left Super Cruise. Boosting to the station hoping to not make a blunder because I entered from the side, didn't have the time to line the ship in super cruise, luckily I did it right and went trough the mail slot without scratching the borders or hitting the sides. Atmospheric restored, landed on pad 9 and I simply melted on my seat, sweaty, tired, and smiling from side to side. Those 400.000 credits on repairs were given with appreciation, I stored my trusty Corvette, my Hammerfall, you didn't fail me, I will accompany you to the end of the galaxy if needed.

So yeah, the Corvette is a magnificent ship. Now, I will go out and enjoy some safe Earth air and atmosphere we all take for granted.

LOL, Dont you hate it when you fire on your next target thinking its part of the original wing you were attacking, only to find out it belongs to another wing... I feel for you mate! but a big thumbs up for you for making it through, and most of all having a blast doing it.. rep for you.

Well finally got my corvette after a mind numbing grind to "rear pain in the asp admiral". Took her for a maiden voyage in the nearest haz-res boy was she fun, reminded me of the slower bigger brother of the FDL on steroids.
Also watched your video's mr jones about the FDL very helpful when i first started out in my FDL thanks for those.
Right off to practice more with dual P4A's since a comment was made from the wife about hitting the side of a barn and the lack of it.

Hello! I am CMDR Junksick and this is my first post. Been lurking for a while and thought i might contribute something.

I've been using the Corvette for just shy of a month now and it is my perfect vessel.

I would now like to share my thoughts with anyone who gives a     .

It looks amazing. From the front it can appear larger than what it actually is, which seems intentional, in the way that there are less visual details on the nose that start to fill out the further back you look to give it that illusion. The cockpit location and wing shape and placement exaggerate this further. It does all this, and keeps true with the Core Dynamics aesthetic of appearing very 'high tech'. It wants to look as much as it is powerful. It wants to appear imposing, something that identifies with authority and supremacy, and is noticed when it arrives on the battlefield. It truly is a figurehead of the Federation.

PROS
Maneuverability is amazing for its size and class
Nice assortment of hard-points Good hard-point placement, with the huge hard-points placed appropriately
Very well defended
Ship hangars (pending release)
Sexy

CONS
Jump range when combat fit sits a little over 10ly. Trading fit (all racks) gives ~20ly max and ~14ly laden
Speeds only barely exceeding 200 m/s, with boost going less than 300m/s.

NOTE: This can go either way, but The Corvette requires a lot of power management and boosting to handle the inertia. I personally like the opportunity to take advantage of power micro management, but i understand it can be a tedium for many.

For me in particular, this is the perfect vessel. Choosing a ship has always come down to what it feels like to pilot, and the Federal Corvette is, so far, the best ship i have ever flown for combat. I've always liked the feel of federal ships and i'm glad to know they carried that feeling over to the corvette. I would say it feels quite like flying a gunship, but I'm HUGE. It's short jump range, its slow speed, it makes the ship feel like it is holding some VERY big guns (and it is) and it's maneuverability shows that it knows how to use them. It looks great, it flies great, and i am so happy I found the discipline to make it to rear admiral.

Thanks for reading, and fly safe!

I'm debating whether to get this ship or not-- I currently have an a-rated conda.
Regardless of whether you think the corvette is a better combat ship (I've read both sides of the story), the fact that there's a heated debate on both sides of this seem to indicate to me that they're fairly close-- so I'm pretty much set on not getting one (even though I'm a huge corvette fan .. the car kind .. in RL)
.

one thing that I'm curious about.. what's the consensus on the use of fighters? one hangar for the conda vs. two for the 'vette... any thoughts on how/whether that will tip the scales?
.

Any before anyone starts, I'm not saying the conda is better than the 'vette... I'm not... just that from a cost/grind perspective, given the advantage of the 'vette over the 'conda (if any), it's just not worth it, to me.

Ok here goes......
I used an "A" graded Corvette during beta. Visibility is good and speed most acceptable, never ever let your shields go down.....ever! Huge hard-points I found to be very frustrating and that made it a much slower killing machine for me compared to the Anaconda (which is a nice and easy/lazy experience, just point and kill). All the corvette seemed to be good for was mining or trading at the time, if you can find a one jump profitable run all is good ....so most you can earn from this is around 1.5mill per ten minutes or so with the route I discovered.

That all being said, I bought a new Corvette yesterday and I've been practising with the huge hard point on the Anaconda, and now my aim and technique is muchly improved. Not sure I'm ready to swap Annaconda for Corvette yet for Haz-Res. Happy to be convinced otherwise. I'm waiting for the new huge weapons really. Ooooo ha ha ha ....
Oh yes....has anything changed for this shop since beta ?
Flimley.

I'm currently in the process of getting to Rear Admiral (just about to get to Post Lt.), and as I only have 280mill Assets; do I risk it?
I haven't played ED for a while due to other games coming out and them being Xmas presents; now I'm back from my break and I do like the looks of the Corvette replacing my beloved FDL (for now)

So, do I really risk it and sell my TradeConda and FDL to give this beast a try?
And as a lover of the PAC, are these a must? Or are the Cannons just as good to use until you have the dollar behind you to fully kit it out?

Remember, it has very poor jump range. Especially if you begin to add upgraded modules and guns. Plus being well practised with huge hard points is an absolute must.

Vette is not a good candidate for trading fully laden so have care if yer selling a trade income generator that you depend on for it.

This morning, picked up progenitor cells 23ly away. 544 tonne and 8 hop return for my location and one full refuel. Shorter hop research is needed like someone mentioned.

Still, great way to smuggle hi loads short ways tho get the right mix.

so finally managed to get the rank for the corvette today with 500mil in the bank, found it for £159mil in li space and managed to outfit the rest with 60 mil left over,

heres my build at the moment, went with bi weaves as wanting to see how it performs in haz res, and going to swap out a fuel tank for a scoop for less weight in the near future,

next on the shopping list is military bulks and then maybe reactive in light of the new huge weapons coming - insurance will be over 40 mil though

first impressions are pretty good handles better than I thought,

Has anyone tried this with 2 Advanced Plasmas?

If so please report :)

Wow, ThatRubberDuck, is that ammount of fuel necissary? I assume you do plenty of powerplay undermining lol

haha yeah it was abit overkill, I have a 7b scoop in place of one of the fuel tanks, I'll probably make the other smaller once I get to where I want to be

Has anyone tried this with 2 Advanced Plasmas?

I have been and they're brutal, prefer them over the cannons, I seem to be able to hit alot more with the PAs

Had my vette for a couple of weeks now, fairly impressed so far :)

Mainly used for trading, earning around 5 mill per hour which is good because I'm skint after buying and nearly A rating her.
Find her better than the Anaconda to some degree, jump range is poor but with good short routes not a problem.

Len ST, Would you say, in your experience, that the corvette is more profit p/h compared to the anaconda?

And kudos for trading in a ship with <10ly laden jump range! Mind sharing one of your short routes?

I've got the Corvette now, and WOW.... Even with my build, it's a real monster!

But, I am torn between the PAs and Cannons though.... When I first made it, I mounted the Huge Cannons which was great for the medium/big ships as a single volley would take the power plant I targeted down to 40%. But even with the Large PAs (not enough dollar for Huge PAs and the subsystems to power 'em), I'm still packing a punch; just not killing as fast.....

My budget is as you see it, as I only have 260M in assets; and the Corvette is my only ship currently til I can earn the money back in either trading or BHing. What else can you guys recommend?
