Recent Livestream engineering buff announcement

Hi!
Following the recent frontier live stream I was extremely disappointed to find that Odyssey on-foot engineering is being neglected, this grind is frankly very unfair and darn right impossible at times, in comparison the horizons ship grind is a walk in the park (I could have it done all the way to G5 within 12 or so game sessions).

I strongly believe that on-foot engineering materials need a buff, simply buffing missions rewards, increasing the range of materials they offer as a rewards and/or making it so that if you pick up an engineering material it provides 3 of said material in-place of the current 1 (horizons does this) would've made for a good project alongside this horizons buff being worked on.

What do you others think?
It's my understanding that Odyssey got left in the dirt as it received such negative feedback at the time of it's release.

OP I think your understanding is flawed and your opinion of other posters interested in the topic whose views you expect to differ from yours insulting.

It actually sounds very promising, though I think a huge improvement could be made to Odyssey engineering by also granting the ability to remove mods. The current system discourages experimentation, and I think this may still be true following a rebalance, though less harshly so.

Right, well, in the spirit of flup-posting that we seem to have in this thread I'm going to hijack it and ask if anyone knows when the engineering changes will appear in the game?

  • Suit and weapon upgrade costs dramatically lowered (by about 2/3?)
  • Some engineer unlock requirements significantly reduced.
  • Gathering materials now much easier - Mav suit with backpack upgrade can hold 120 assets.
  • Settlement Defence Plans, Cat Media, Manufacturing Instructions, etc., now appear as mission rewards alongside mats like tungsten carbide & scramblers.

Doesn't strike me as "neglecting" Odyssey engineering.

Thanks for the summary; maybe I'll actually engage with some of the on-foot engineering now! This is very good news.

Can someone point me to the livestream or update notes with regards to moving on-foot materials from settlements to missions?
Cheers!

I don't think "moving" is exactly right. As far as I'm aware, getting materials from settlements is unchanged (as are ground mission POI like "impact site", "irregular markers", etc.) while many (many!) more Odyssey materials than before are now mission rewards (I'd say "all", but I haven't seen cocktail recipes, maybe there are other exceptions).

The engineering rebalance livestream segment is not amazingly specific on the changes, but I think that's the best "official" info we have. The forum announcement says:

The recipes for Odyssey engineering have had their material amounts reduced, combined with getting more rewards for missions and needing to spend less.

and the update info has:

Increased Engineering material rewards across missions.
  • Up to 24 depending on mission type, material and mission difficulty

without distinguishing between space and ground missions.
