Reckles flying... really?

I'm back playing this game after a long break. I undock at founders world and twice in a row my ship gets exploded by the station for no good reason.
Turns out I'm getting killed because there's people that deliberately throw themselves into my flight path so that I cause damage to their ships.

Really?

Needless to say I left open play that same minute.
I dont mind fighting other players or getting interdicted, all part of the fun.
But poorly thought out mechanics like this, that are wide open to abuse really turn me off.

You're missing the point, I know how to fly my ship.

People manouvre themselves in front of me on purpose.
I suppose it is funny or something.

I'm not missing the point, if you fly in open expect to come across (insert word) The same thing can happen with AI traffic near a station. As long as you are under the speed limit you are not a fault. When above the speed limit keep your eyes open and be prepared to react.

Edit - I've never had someone intentionally ram me, but I've seen plenty of crazy cmdr's blasting through the slot whilst I'm in 2000+ tonnes of Type-9 or Imperial Cutter. Speeding in open is not worth the hassle at ports with player traffic, judge each situation and fly accordingly.

Theoretically the mechanism is the lesser of two evils. FD added it after a spate of malicious ramming. If you are speeding in the dock you are assumed to be up to no good.

Generally speaking, staying under the speed limit should prevent unfortunate incidents of firery death.

I currently fly with 4 pips to SYS in my Anaconda. That way I am travelling below 100, and my shields are at high strength. I have had Authority vessels scan and ram, and even (on one occasion) blow up, and I have not had any problems.

I suppose you're right. Still it pains me to see that kind of players in this game.

Sadly its the nature of multiplayer and being anonymous behind a screen, im not one for all the hand holding care bear feed the world with love type of person but to be fair, manners cost us nothing ... im inclined to think the cmdr involved gets a good laugh and feels better about his day so at least you managed to cheer him up.

Chin up ol bean.

You and the rest of us! I was recently heading into a dock when I saw a Vulture hanging around. The next thing I saw was a Sidewinder heading towards me under boost. As I was at 82, and 4 pips to SYS, all that happened was he blew up. I then saw that Vulture starting an attack run. He then realised that despite me being well within the range of the Station I was not taking any fire from anything, so he broke off the run.

The problem is that there are people who like to spoil things for the proper Players. In the past, people in large ships would ram Players in smaller ships until they blew up, and the only thing they had to do was to repair their ship. FDev then introduced the speed limit, and now what happens is that people get a small ship, weaken it, and then try to ram unsuspecting Players who may be travelling over 100. If the Player was travelling over 100, and the ramming ship blows up, that mechanism then deems that the PLAYER was at fault, and takes steps.

Just lost my Python a few minutes ago because of this. Not a big issue for me, but I have to admit, I was flying way to fast ;-) Boosting into the slot...
So, no problem for me, I have really enough money, but others may be warned!

And: I will stay in open, always and ever! I know what can happen, I know how to avoid it and if others have fun with this play-style I am happy with that!

Fly safe, CMDRs

There was one or more griefers ramming everyone at the entrance to Shinrarta today - I saw ships exploding as I approched.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to slow my Clipper to under the speed limit, before he had made turned around and boosted straight into me. (He was in a Cobra) Got a small fine for him ramming and a bounty as he exploded.

Thankfully my Clipper has A-rated engines, so I just bugged out before the station reacted.

Bye then . . .

As others have said, once you cross the border of the NFZ, chop your speed to under 100. Throw 4 pips to SYS because you aren't going to be needing the extra engine power to fly under 100 anyway and you don't need WEP power because you're in the NFZ and who wants to aggro the station you're about to dock at? Or you can take your chances with speeding to shave a minute off your time to the landing pad but then anything that happens in a collision is on you and whether you have the skill to avoid it.

The change means that being griefed is opt-in now - or at least it is once you know about the speed limit; then you can only be griefed if you choose to exceed the limit.

That said, I think it would be nice if landing-gear automatically put a ceiling of 99m/s on your speed. It already puts a ceiling on your speed that is pretty close to that, but the ceiling can still exceed the speed limit in many ships. Horizons means there are now places to land that don't have speed limits, but even in those places there is no need to exceed 100m/s with landing gear down.

Or install a docking computer. Unless they changed it, you're never fault while the computer is landing you, no matter what breakneck speed it goes. Though that doesn't help with leaving the station, but getting in might be funnier that way.
