Reckles flying... really?

I'm back playing this game after a long break. I undock at founders world and twice in a row my ship gets exploded by the station for no good reason.
Turns out I'm getting killed because there's people that deliberately throw themselves into my flight path so that I cause damage to their ships.

Really?

Needless to say I left open play that same minute.
I dont mind fighting other players or getting interdicted, all part of the fun.
But poorly thought out mechanics like this, that are wide open to abuse really turn me off.

First off players will grief others by doing this on purpose.

Second FD heard the calls of the players and put into place a speed mechanic where if you now travel faster than 100m/s near a station you are considered as speeding. If you hit anything at this speed you will gain a fine and be flagged as hostile to the station and it will open fire on you. Even if the person hitting you was going faster than 100m/s. So stay below 100m/s in speed and the station will not flag you.

Also to note if you go faster than 100m/s the npcs will ram you also when they go to scan your ship and you will also gain a fine and a wanted tag.

This problem has been made known to Frontier and should be on their "to fix" list. However, it may take another couple of months/years to implement.

Don't fly over speed limit or prepare to face the consequences, is it really that hard to understand?

The speed limit was introduced to add a time sink / make the game more difficult. It's tedious and has to go, as there is no upside in having it.

But you would probably post the same if the speed limit were 10m/s ;-)

Nope, wanted tag is only gained if the ship you ram dies.

Also, I have heard that it is possible for the ramming ship to take your speed above 100 if you are travelling very close to the limit. Not sure how true this is...

No it was introduced due to complaints about players ramming other players outside of stations..

Sugarat is correct. Prior to the speed limit idiots were ramming folks to death in the NFZ for lulz or crashing into them in a shieldless sidey so the station blew them up. So FD implemented "speeding" - no matter why you collide in the NFZ, if you are under 100 you get away with it. Higher speeds than that and you either get fined or blasted depending on what happens to the other guy.

Actually, crashing into speeding players in a badly damaged cheap ship just became a thing after the speed limit introduction... One CMDR became famous for using this mechanism at the Kaushpoos Pleiades Station CGs, I was one of his victims. Having earned enough at one of those CGs for my first Python and to D-rate it with a safety margin, one of the first times I took it out of Neville station, just over 100 m/s cause I wasn't yet used to controlling its speed, BOOM... a sidey crashed into me, blew up and there goes my shiny new Python hull, blown up by the stations weapons...
Did I move to solo or Mobius? No way. Been griefed, ganked, "Itchy Nippled", my insurance claims amount to about 50 Mil, but I always play in Open, or at least 99.9 % of the time.

Nope. Those were only a tiny minority that was unable to find the correct game mode.

For normal players, PvP around stations was never a problem, whether they stayed solo or consented to such activities.

Nope, he is wrong, because this never was an issue. The speeding mechanic, on the other hand, is an issue.

Apparently it is for Zelos and a few others.

Apparently, some people don't understand what this is about ;-).

That is correct. Despite the arcady flight model, the collisions are modeled somewhat realistically, which means that you get bumped upon collision. The speed indicator reflects that.

So basically if you boost into someone from behind, you can accelerate him past 100m/s. NPCs like to do that.

Yes that happened. The rules of engagement for station PvP have been altered somewhat.

I don't think that's an issue for PvP players. For others, the added timesink is simply a no-go. Same for the added risk for normal docking maneuvers. The speeding mechanic is introduced to punish traders and nerf their credits/hour.

Funny sidenote: FD modified the NPC behaviour to reflect that of so-called "griefing" players, so they now constantly try to ram you around stations for non-lore purpose.

Edit: BTW, the speed limit is enforced EVERYWHERE, not just in the NFZ. If someone rams you and dies while you were "speeding", you get a wanted tag. Unless you identify them as wanted first.

So, exactly what part of "stay under the speed limit in the NFZ and you're safe" don't you get? If you don't do that then you get dinged if you collide with anyone. Your choice, take the risk or not.

You'd think Zelos is new around here.. Perhaps he should try the search function.

Fly under 100 and there will be no issue what so ever

100 is too slow. It is the equivalent of telling everyone to drive at 20 mph. They need to raise it to 150 and people might actually pay attention to it. I would rather take my chances, even with a 20 million rebuy, than do 100.

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about here, or how it relates to my post.. (?)

Well it's 360 km/h for the final few km/s into a station. Really not a big deal, the limit is not mandatory, use common sense and monitor traffic.

I don't immediately reduce to 100 m/s as soon as I hit the NFZ, if no traffic is in the area I generally fly in well about the limit. On those occasions when the station is heaving with player traffic I'll reduce speed as soon as I see a cmdr or NPC on a intercept course.

It really is a complete non issue if you simply maintain situational awareness. Speed limits are part of Aviation/Shipping.. Driving to the frikin shops.. If you are above the advisory limit, be prepared to react.

edit - Some guy ran in depth collision tests at 150+ m/s back when the advisory was implemented, this whole discussion has been done to death.

- Thinking about it some more, it really wouldn't be hard for the devs to implement a simple TCAS system. Any traffic on an intercept course inside the NFZ will begin to flash followed by an audible warning.

I think you should retract your statement of it being easy
