Reckles flying... really?

But its not a simple thing to implement

Which part, the TCAS? We already have (TA) traffic advisories, top right of the HUD (Visual & audio Alert) I am talking about implementing the Traffic Advisory into the Scanner. No need for resolution advisories, just keep things simple.

The speed limit was introduced to add a time sink / make the game more difficult. It's tedious and has to go, as there is no upside in having it.

But you would probably post the same if the speed limit were 10m/s ;-)

Wrong. The speed limit was introduced to counter ramming griefers at stations. It did precisely what it set out to do. So its upside is that you can't grief people via ramming around stations anymore.

Unless they ignore the speed limit. In which case the fault is theirs.

Nope, he is wrong, because this never was an issue.

You seem to be misinformed. Please use the search function to educate yourself so you can have an informed opinion.

I clearly remember NFZ rammers to have been a serious griefing problem that was often discussed on the forums prior to the update that introduced the speed limit.

if I am not mistaken, Zelos was around during that time... I would need to check his forum post history to be sure... His 'view' on why FD introduced the speeding mechanism is a slight... that much is clear from his post in this thread... Perhaps he was one of the players who got their jollies ramming other players to death at stations...

Either way, FDev introduced the speeding mechanic to reduce the penalties inflicted on otherwise clean pilots from the pillocks who were doing the ramming and set it up so that if you use a docking computer, it will dock you at speed but you will not get any penalty if someone rams you and they explode while you are docking.

I suppose you're right. Still it pains me to see that kind of players in this game.
They are unfortunately in all games, and eagerly do whatever they can, forcing devs to clamp down more and more on any possible freedoms their players have become some people decide to misuse them, and tout it as "they are allowed to"
Actually, crashing into speeding players in a badly damaged cheap ship just became a thing after the speed limit introduction... One CMDR became famous for using this mechanism at the Kaushpoos Pleiades Station CGs, I was one of his victims. Having earned enough at one of those CGs for my first Python and to D-rate it with a safety margin, one of the first times I took it out of Neville station, just over 100 m/s cause I wasn't yet used to controlling its speed, BOOM... a sidey crashed into me, blew up and there goes my shiny new Python hull, blown up by the stations weapons...
Did I move to solo or Mobius? No way. Been griefed, ganked, "Itchy Nippled", my insurance claims amount to about 50 Mil, but I always play in Open, or at least 99.9 % of the time.
when itchy griefed, there was no speed limit.
Nope, he is wrong, because this never was an issue. The speeding mechanic, on the other hand, is an issue.
As mentioned above itchy did the other side of the problem, ramming people to death deliberately but instead of dying himself, he did it in a very strongly built ship, usually a clipper, ramming into people killing them by ramming, and getting away with it with no penalty before the speeding limit was enforced, then a ton of others began doing it as well, and then came the speeding limit.

hey doctor, it was me, nitek and harry! we rammed you. You better obey the speed limit next time or the speed patrol police will get you.

This video always cracks me up.. Ever since I tend to not speed around stations where there are other commanders :D

When itchy started ramming there was no speed limit ingame, others soon caught on and started doing the same. Speed limit imposed - Only cmdr's breaking the speed limit in a collision will face consequences

Agreed.
My point was that, in the video, published by itchy himself, he was causing grief to other players (no naming or shaming intended)...
As I posted earlier, at the time I lost my newly acquired Python, while flying out of Neville slightly above the 100 m/s, to this "tactic" and due to inexperience flying the new boat.
Never happened again.

That is complete and utter hogwash. In case you have a bad memory or are too new to the game: the speed limit was introduced because player killers and gankers used ramming in and at stations to kill other players for lulz, especially those in small ships - there was no retribution or consequence to them. Thus FD introduced the speed limit, as it is quite hard (but not impossible) to ram-kill somebody if you are going less than 100 m/s.

If you go below 100, there are no consequences for ramming. If you go above, there is a fine for damage and a bounty (with station shooting at you) if the other ship is killed.

I wonder if this really is beyond the mental capacity of some folk here. Either go below 100 m/s or check your scanner and develop some situational awareness.

I'm back playing this game after a long break. I undock at founders world and twice in a row my ship gets exploded by the station for no good reason.
Turns out I'm getting killed because there's people that deliberately throw themselves into my flight path so that I cause damage to their ships.

Really?

Needless to say I left open play that same minute.
I dont mind fighting other players or getting interdicted, all part of the fun.
But poorly thought out mechanics like this, that are wide open to abuse really turn me off.

Their job is done. And the same folks will be crying in hysterics over the 'emptiness of Open'! Sorry for your losses...good luck wherever you play!

As a member of SDC Police Department I'd recommend to watch your speed while getting out of the station, while doing my job I caught a lot of speeders and they all where sent to the rebuy screen penitentiary. Fly safe, fly slow.

If I'm flying about in my type 9. I tend to boost out of stations and towards stations just because the ship is slow.

When I'm undocking from a station, I check to see if there are any commanders around. If not I just boost out of the station. A couple of times while doing, a wild NPC type 9 appears. Then i veer my ship into the station wall to stop me from hitting or scrape the letter box to slow me down. Thats why I have shields on my type 9. For pesky pirates and for those moments where crashing into a wall is cheaper than making love to another type 9 or destroying a wee sidewinder.

When coming into a station I tend to boost towards it. Then once I'm almost there I go to 99% thrust as this slows my ship from it's boost speed to normalish speed. Then as I get to the mail slot I slow down to around 98 and then enter the mail slot and carry out my landing.

If you're speeding and crush a fellow commander then it's your fault.

If your driving on a wet road too fast for the conditions. If you slide off the road, who do you blame? The car or the driver?

Fly safe!
