Well I've been out for 16 weeks now and I'm really having a ton of fun. Playing around with manual fume jumping for when I get to the abyss.
kinda scary sometimes.
I had a mix up with some invisible rings and got knocked out of SC == hull down 1% to 89. PP still ok at 94%
Ok here's some stats:
23 1st discovery ELW's (got on a hot streak Friday and Saturday I found 5 those 2 days and 2 in consecutive systems!)
240 Neutrons (I guess you can say I'm farming them because whenever I see them I divert to them)
91 Rare stars (Herbig, Carbon types, O type ect..)
28 Black holes
hyperspace distance traveled 92,468
systems scanned 3887
and I'm currently 29,150ly from my starting point.
Also I'm sitting on 3 Cartographic records see if you can guess one of them from the screenies

Besides that: Thanks for sharing your travel experience / stories. I find this kind of posts allmost always inspiring, even if they do mean that I have to find out that yet another "First CMDR to ..." has been taken away from the playing field. I never stops amazing me that I am not the only one with crazy ideas, and to find that out is both comforting and inspiring

I was referring to the 'k' you typed, which means kilo, for x1000.
The furthest reach in the game is a little over 65,000 light years.
You mentioned 6500k ly, which would be 6,500,000 light years.
The Andromeda galaxy that we can often see in the background, is 2,500,000 light years away.

Yesterday (5-21) was my official day of being out for 6 months. I've done very well in my journey. It's really become a soul searching and personal journey for me.
I've laughed.
I've cried. (yes for real)
I've felt great triumph & great despair.
But I push on.

Time for an update!
Today is officially my 9th month out on this expedition.
I've done so many different things to keep my interest flowing.. you pretty much have too to stay sane.
I've expanded on a bucket list that I copied from the forums (it was ~ 120 -- I made it 229)
I alter my focus here and there but I remain loyal to ELW's (especially in non average systems -- think B / t-tauri / L / T / herbig) and so far I'm happy to report I've found 65 of them of which 59 are 1st discoveries.
I've flown very safe and I'm happy with my hull @ 83% and PP at 91% -- not bad after 9 months and only 2 days missed flying
So here's my stats since my start:
systems visited 9675
ELW's 65 (59 1st)
Neutron stars (no fields yet) 490
black holes (again no fields) 40 -- I love to play with these, they are safe if you know how to do it
Rare stars ( I consider these to be O's / Herbigs / Carbon's / WR / MS ) 244
Hyperspace distance = 227,209
I scan quite a lot ( however I have trimmed down my rules) so I think if I survive selling I'll be very rich.
I don't know when I'll be coming back. I worry all the time about what may be introduced.

Nice shots. I'm loving that gas giant, such unusual colours (least I don't recall seeing something like that).
Liking these shots. They're beautiful. The blue and purple stars... that gas giant.
Update Time. Today marks a full year since I've set off on my Journey. I haven't been able to keep this thread going like I'd planed.. too busy exploring.
I now have a target return date of 18 months (so 6 months to go)
I also have the following goals: 20k systems visited & 100 ELW's.
I'm bouncing around having tons of fun checking out various nebula's.
My bucket list is filling albeit slowly because I've extended it even more (it's up to 321 now)
I've found several cartographic record breakers and ties which I will submit to http://www.elitegalaxyonline.com/
Once I sell my data of course.
Anyways here are my current stats.
Systems visited 13,115
ELW's 75 (69 1st discovered) I lost one of these to another commander [blah]
Black holes 115
Neutron Stars 986 (now on hold till FD fixes the crash to cone issue)
Rare Stars 443 (I've revised this to not count common WD stars, only counting the rare designations of them)
Hyperspace distance 297,847
Tera form bodys ~ 2,400
High metal content planets 17,364
Ammonia worlds 126
Water Worlds 864
I've found my 1st Ringed ELW and a ringed Class M star. Seemingly rare items.
