Hi Venture,
Sorry to hit you with this, but Installed Windows 10 from 8.1 when I should have known better.
ED seem to be OK but not TCE, I still have my DataBase with 100+ Stations etc.
Hav reinstalled TCE 14.6 numerous time which was not helped by Norton 360 deleting without question some of TCE Installation files.
Norton has now been dumped for ever more.

I have lost the connection from TCE to ED that tells where I am,
I have lost OCR with no more Scans for Commodities.

I am more than happy to dump W10, just would like your advice first. Just in case.
With W10 and Norton I guess W10 did not have a chance.

There is nothing wrong with your TCE as it has worked for me for long enough.
I wonder as humans whether we shall ever learn. After 50 years from the days of the XT I should know better than to try a brand new untried Operating System/.

Thanks.

Hi again,

i didnt work with any Norten product, so can you make an exclusions for TCE and EliteOCR in Norten? Did you installed TCE into a trusted zone (folder) for your Office version?

This app and other similar ones are not clearly allowed by FD to use by trading tools like TCE. We have to wait for an official word by FD on this.

Honestly, I think they should shut you down, but not in the way that sounds. All of these tools, and other 3rd party tools for trading...ect, should be hard written into the game itself, and not require visiting a website, or installing tools such as these.
If FD implemented all of these awesome 3rd party tools in game, then there wouldn't be a need for that part of the terms and conditions.
There is nothing to gain, but not adding these features, but much to lose.

Thanks for your hard work. Fantastic job.

Hi,
As soon as I realised that Norton was deleting some of TCE installation files as you say I excluded the files from Norton, but still it deleted them without question, which is unbelievable, stating Unknown author etc. etc. I have used Norton since the 70's.

Possibly a combination of W10 and Norton, who knows? but a warning to all, leave W10 until it is better proven.

Now to see about the Roll-Back.
Thanks

I don't think the problems are with Windows 10. I have had it installed for a couple of weeks without any problems with TCE. I don't use Norton and never have though.

Thank you Eventure.

Just to confirm, upgrading/installing from the non-installer version means doing;

1) Rename old 'TCE' dir to something like 'TCE Old'
2) Unzip new 'TCE' installation
3) Copy the 3 .bat files and the .ini file from the old installation (or make new ones) for the new version
4) Copy from the old installation's EliteOCR dir or make a new installation of Elite OCR in the EliteOCR dir in the new TCE dir (new install requires you to calibrate the OCR process)
5) Run the TDM to transfer old info to the new db.
6) Run the new TCE
7) Profit.

I think I got everything....

I used the installer version to install the previous version so I'm just checking that I'm not going to regret doing something daft.

Hi Eventure,

I see that you have released 1.47.)

Is the release of TDM 1.6 OK to use to transfer over the database, or is it not required to do that with this release?

Also I noticed that the version of TDM in the changelog is shown as version 1.5.

Thanks,

Martin

You need only the three batch files, the ini file comes with TDM. You have to make a new ini only, if your actual folder name differs from your old version.
EliteOCR is copied by TDM also, if you select YES when you are questioned for transfer. And your saved routes are transfered too, when integrating the new database into the actual version.

1.6? Where? I released TDM in version 1.05. You need it always to make your last version compatible with the actual one. Otherwise i will make a note, if you dont need TDM.

So.... that would mean;

1) Rename old 'TCE' dir to something like 'TCE Old'
2) Unzip new 'TCE' installation
3) Copy the 3 .bat files from the old installation (or make new ones) for the new version
4) Run the TDM to transfer old info to the new db (also transfers EliteOCR and a few other bits for you)
5) Run the new TCE
6) Profit.

Well that's a bit easier. Thanks for the clarification Eventure. Does TCE Setup automatically make the .ini file when run, or does it need to exist before it's run? Just trying to workout what you actually need if you never run the installer version.

Also, the non-installer version, does it ship with a .txt file that describes what the three .bat files should look like when made? I couldn't find one if it's supposed to be there. EDIT: NVM just found prestart.bat, that said, running that file directly as admin simply fails to do anything. Instead you need to be in command prompt at the location you placed the TCE directory then type tce\prestart.bat and then it creates the .bat files for you. Even then it didn't like the code for the certificates.

It's all in the new version (v1.47), installer or non-installer version, just as everything was bundled in with the previous version (v1.46).

The non-installer version is only a compilation of all core files of TCE. It is not designed for an installation. I always recommand to use the installer version for it. The prestart.bat is written for the installer and cant be used directly out of the folder. But you made the right approach to make it usable.

I'm kind of hesitant about running installers unless I really have to. I eventually caved and ran it the once to install the first version I used (v1.46) and then went about working out what the software actually needs to get it running from a basic install of windows and nothing else and the non-installer version. It seems remarkably little needs to actually be done to get stuff working when done right.

Hi, Eventure.

I got a 1004 error while running TDM.
Here is a screenshot:

Hello,

can you upload your TCE.mdb file to recreate your error? There must be a problem within.

Thanks.

I had the same problem and found it was finding a problem when loading station systems ID 53 VONARBURG ENTERPRISE; Star Name V775 HERCULI and ID 54 Beatty Port; V775 HERCULI. Used TDM to NOT transfer both stations in the Star Name V755 HERCULI and was successful!!!

Thanks for the info, the correct name is V775 HERCULIS, with the "S" in the end. Change the star system name directly at the station table for both stations and you can import them too. Otherwise the next TDM update will correct the star system name of both stations automatically.
