Maybe because just 24% think that ship tranfser should be instant but 84% think that ship replacement should be instant? It's really the same mechanic...

Yes, OP is poorly worded, I didn't make my intentions clear (if there are any) and I am stupid because I should've asked if FDEV should remove/change the ship replacement mechanic rather than rebuy. As said above, I didn't expect the thread to survive longer than 5 minutes, otherwise I would've put more thought in it...

Yes, probably should be

"Should insurance pay CRs less the rebuy/excess, and you have to personally go a buy the replacement ship & modules"

Insurance still exists, still covers you for your loss, credit Transfer to your account can be instant, but replacing the ship taking the time.

There is a thing that it one the one hand facilitates traveling and cuts down the tedious - on the other hand it facilitates meeting people which is pretty important if you want to blow up stuff in large player encounters. No one like sailing for an hour just to miss the enemy grand fleet by 5 minutes.

It facilitates bypassing travel, not travel in itself.
 
I would prefer a middle ground - no rebuy, but keep your bank account/ranks etc. Once ship is lost it's lost. Please buy a new one, or it you are totally out of credits - take a loan :D
 
I'd have voted 'yes' to this poll if it was to work the way I figured from the title. which would be replacing re-buy with re-spawn (you only loose your cargo, bounties, and exploration data).

To be honest I think a lot of problems are caused by having to pay so much for each death. It's the reason that the game can never truly be challenging I think. Whenever it gets hard enough that death is a reasonable outcome from an engagement for a skilled player, progression in the game will be impossible for many people. As a result of this the NPCs will be nerfed, taking out the challenge. one need look no further than what happened after 2.1 to see this.
 
I think the best way to go about this is to have a separate server version called ironman-open that you can only access if you've never used the rebuy screen.
If you die you can still continue normally but you can only do so in open. This would also offer a reason for rerolling your character if you had died before once.

To be able to implement this thought you would need more than just the extra servers but also some version of solving the combat logging first because otherwise it would just increase that.
 
Perhaps instead of rebuy you got spawned at a random station with your ship.

This would cause enough hassle and time sink to not to want to die.
 
<Facepalm> "It's really the same mechanic..." Er. NO. IT. ISN'T.

One is a way round an unacceptable barrier to play (that could be improved, certainly by Escape pods, or Ironman mode for those willing). The other is a convenience.

Er. YES. IT. IS.
I am talking about the instanst ship replacement and transfer, genious.
