I'd have voted 'yes' to this poll if it was to work the way I figured from the title. which would be replacing re-buy with re-spawn (you only loose your cargo, bounties, and exploration data).
To be honest I think a lot of problems are caused by having to pay so much for each death. It's the reason that the game can never truly be challenging I think. Whenever it gets hard enough that death is a reasonable outcome from an engagement for a skilled player, progression in the game will be impossible for many people. As a result of this the NPCs will be nerfed, taking out the challenge. one need look no further than what happened after 2.1 to see this.
