Repeat the same Guardian unlock 18 times? Really?

Truely sad. And I am no the one being a troll or a white knight as I agree with the complaints about the God awful mechanic and I am not happy about other aspects of the game.
Max, in case you haven't realized by now. Most of your posts don't show that, they are like "I am not doing XY and fine about it. You just shouldn't do XY either." That way you are dismissing the problem.

I've got a spare *headdesk* if you want it Genus - I make 'em specially for such occasions (I make furniture).

Oh, I'm used to it Rafe. Have to take the deliberate intransigence with a pinch of salt and label it as entertainment.

Saves using the chisels and sander ;-)

Christmas is coming, we'll see some changes then if it carries on. Might borrow an axe in January though if that's okay?

Waiting for Christmas for FD to fix a fundamental inability to design functional game mechanics may well be a lesson in futility. I'd love to see Elite given the love and attention it deserves, but given the past history of broken and revoked gameplay, kneejerk coding and a habit of paying lip-service to any desire to see improvement, 35 pages in and this thread won't even so much as reach the team's ankles, let alone any part of the anatomy involving grey-matter.

neither 35000 pages considering their inability to listen what community ask... :)

A very bad attitude for a company in my opinion: future will tell (if it'snt already telling now)...

To be blunt, at this juncture my expectations of it being fixed by Christmas are low to none. However, I love being proved wrong, and you never know...someone might be brought in to help the Design Team to put it right by the time the last Beyond update lands.

However, if this does not happen, rather than expecting it to be put right..my expectations are more aligned to FD bringing in new talent which is able to.

Yes, of course. This is exactly what the forum community has been crying out for. For years. Over and over and over, again and again and again... Perhaps not explicitly, but implicitly, mind-numbing repetition is at the core of what this community wants, and deserves.

How many pages are in this thread? How many posters have repeated their steadfast opinion?
How many of you can honestly say you do not repeatedly, over and over, initiate, contribute to, or read through the same few tired old subjects, over and over?

Modes... PP/BGS unfair! Bonuses for open! Don't be scared.
PvP Gankers & Griefers... There is no Grief! Git Gud!
Engineers... Too hard, too easy, I know, right...
Mats... RNG is the spwwn of the devil...
Oh, the Grind... The grind is in your mind!
PvP is boring, mining is boring, exploring is boring, SRVs are boring... Go play a different game!
Passive aggressive discourse... psychotic carebears!
PIF (no offence) Jockey's wall is repetition writ larg!

Has anyone seen or participated in any of the above... more/less than 18 times? So when DB and Sandro sit down for a planning session (let's accept they have someone monitoring these fourums) and they are pondering the mysteries of what the ED community wants, the feedback from their forum lurker(s) could really only give them one single thing that this diverse (fragmented?) community all seem to want - based on their willingness to perpetuate and participate in the same few tedious discussions... over and over... well boss, they seem to enjoy mind-numbing repitition... OK, well, then put it in the game for them!

Mind-numbing repetition is the gel that holds this forum together. Reap what you have sown!

Then maybe you should learn to read then. At the beginning of this thread I expressed my unhappiness with the mechanic and have said it plenty of time within this thread later too, but people conveniently ignore it nd all the other criticisms I have with the game so they can call me white knight and fanboy because I may have a difference of opinion. And then they lie too to enhance it even more.

It's a bit sad really and I pity these individuals.

Or, alternatively: if so many people get, what you call, the wrong impression you may want to re-consider your communication style. If quipping:"I laugh in your face!" and "I pity them!" can be called communication at all. B1rdy is giving some friendly advice and you respond by 'you should learn to read'. Seriously dude...

Then maybe these people shouldn't out and out lie about me then. I do pity them. If they treated me with any decency I would have done the same. Treat me like crap I will treat them with the disdain they deserve.

And they seem to get the wrong impression because they don't bother reading what I am actually saying and just assume I mean something else because of stuff I have said about other mechanics.

As to my communication style. Saying it's a crap mechanic and I won't put myself through, is that difficult to understand. I have been saying this from the word go when I found out about what it entails.

You tell me another way I can say it that people can understand better because I can't. Maybe in all caps. You tell me.

I would be OK if the requirements for the Gauss Cannon would be like the below, for example. I'm not saying that this is what it should be changed to, just that it would already look better in my eyes [not everybody's...it's just an example of what I (me, myself) would consider less repetitive]. I'm no game designer and I'm sure FD could come up with even better ones.

To unlock the Guardians Gauss Cannon:

1) You must kill a Cyclops with at least 70% (arbitrary) left on your hull (make it so that Cyclops only drop a specific material when your hull is above 70% when it dies). Collect that material, once.
2) Do one loop at the Guardians structure and collect all required mats.
3) Complete a mission to escort a cargo convoy and defend it from a Cyclops attack. Upon the convoy getting to its destination, you will be given one of the materials required to unlock the Gauss Cannon. You only need to do this mission successfully once.
4) Take collected mats to tech broker to unlock.

To unlock the next module, say the Guardians Power Plant, a whole different set of (fun and engaging) requirements would need to be met. Players should not feel forced to have to visit the same Guardian Site and repeat the loop of boredom over and over again in order to get the next module.

yes, Mauxus, but this resembles thought out mission design and has no mind numbing repetition in it so there is no chance in hell we'll see it in elite.
Seriously FD, do you playtest that garbage? No-one can tell me your QA department signed off on that "do guardian sites 40 times to get blueprints" mission after they've actually played through that.

You *are* the QA, didn't anyone tell you?? It was a promotion too, we thought you'd like it.

Yup. This is pretty much how I think it should be done too. It's meant to be a personal narrative. Doing the exact same thing repeatedly is not a presonal narrative.

Yep - I agree in principle, as per my perevious posts. Only key thing I would change is that I think the Thargs should be introduced more slowly rather than slapping a Cyclops in front of you like that. Maybe the first few missions you encounter Scout craft - which can be killed with conventional weapons - and then you get the harder ones as you unlock the required weapons? Been reading about the AX (non Guardian) Thargoid weapons so it appears one can tak ‘em on without the Guardian stuff but I (a) still don’t know where to get them from either and (b) would personally prefer an Engineer Experimental Mod which could make my beam lasers effective against both Thargs and Human - at the cost of not having whatever my previous Exp Effect was - rather than escorting a convoy with no ability to defend against standard pirates!

It defies belief that in the last few replies alone, far more reasonable (and enjoyable) design choices have been offered up that would fit so well. Why haven't I engaged with this content? It's locked behind a wall that is both ridiculously high and consistently without any sense of fun. Once yes.. but beyond that, "We don't want to waste your time" becomes even more of a joke than it already is.

That's just max factor being the open minded, absolutely not on the defensive, not entitled, "I critique the game too sometimes, so I can shut down your opinion at whim if I don't like it" guy we all know and learned to appreciate so much.

And that's you talking about stuff you know nothing about. I have a right to defend myself when people lie about me.

I dont have issues with others having opinions, I don't call names when they disagree with me like others have done with me.

Maybe you should learn to read a bit better. As standard an attack on me when you don't know the facts.

Seems to be the forum way. If you actually read what I had said you would know I am in complete agreement with everyone else that the mechanic is crap, as I am in agreement with others regarding other parts of the game.

Also I have never shut down an opinion, I have voiced my own and because it is different have been shot down as a fanboy and white knight when I am far from that.

The only thing I do shoot down is when people push their opinions as facts. And even then I generally play devils advocate as I or the other person do not know the full facts. It is just another hypothesis which is just as valid as their own.

So maybe you should find out more information which readily available in this thread before voicing an opinion about me which is blatantly incorrect and is pretty much another lie.

I also apologised too if had upset anyone as I realised I was a bit strong and over the top with the way I said stuff. But I am big enough to admit when I am wrong. Are you?

Instead you'd force them to successfully execute a kill on a Thargoid Cyclops that not everyone is up to the task to complete? For my part, I'm no slouch against NPC content but I'm nowhere near the stage of taking on a Cyclops and winning, let alone with >70% hull left. Your suggestion would introduce exclusivity where there should be none - ie only those able to or inclined to take on a Cyclops could even hope to get the Guardian Gauss Cannon. At least the current mechanism is one everyone can hope to achieve, if they're prepared to travel to the sites concerned and prepared to put up with the grind. Granted, the grind is a little too much, and either there should be more blueprints given each time or fewer needed to get the weapons/modules. But no thanks to locking it behind having to destroy something like a Cyclops thanks.
