Rev-Enging Mission Boards

I totally left a bit off that post XD

What I meant to say was the mission server probably generates the rewards, but hasn't been updated with the new prices. Meanwhile, the "Avg Value" we see for goods as mission rewards is probably fetched by the client.

But how to solve it? Reducing mineral rewards galactic average value? Impossible. Increasing mission credit rewards to equal it? Impossible again, as missions will pay a min ~2M credits to avoid this, and the whole balancing gone... Removing minerals from rewards? Make things more complicated, a half solution. Reducing mineral amounts as reward? You will got 10 palladiums and not 39. Very bad.

? Not sure I understand your post.

The mission server is[1] just using old galactic average values for commodities, and hasn't been updated. So, update those values, and everything's fixed. It's just two data sets that are out of synch on FD's side. No biggy.

[1] Presumably. Nobody knows for sure except the devs.

What about these types of missions? Useless? Even with four mining in a wing?

Thanx! I got these types of 50M reward missions for Indite, etc. They all work in the same way? Just buy and its OK? Seems to be a bit of "cheating" for me. :)

Yeah it's fine, and no it's not cheating. All the non-mineable mining missions have large tonnage requirements... it'd be ridiculous to even attempt them by actually mining (they really should be supply missions...)

Working as intended, apparently. :)
On Monday we rolled out the Mining and Trade changes described in the post and made some adjustments which we'll continue to examine and tweak as necessary. For now, they seem to have had the expected impact but your continued feedback is welcome.

Though of course, it could end up a bit self-limiting...

So, just a note here while it's fresh in my mind.

I'm kinda curious about what might specifically cause wing missions now. Having docked in the lagoon sector, one faction offers 17 mining missions, but I note they are all solo missions; no wing mining missions. It is in an investment state, so I suppose that could be affecting it?

A couple more observations while they're fresh in my head.

  • Planetary Surface Scan jobs seem to fail if you're destroyed before completing them, but are OK afterwards.
  • Conflicting behaviour between Illegal Salvage missions vs Legal salvage missions.
. - If you obtain the salvage and are then destroyed on a Legal salvage mission, the original mission location marker reappears, but no mission USS appear
. - If you obtain the salvage and are then destroyed on an Illegal salvage mission, the mission is still in it's updated state telling you to return to the station, and no more mission USS appear either (no mission marker at the original location either)

Basically, you're screwed if you salvage all cargo and are destroyed, though Legal missions seem like you're meant to be able to go back and get the cargo, even though you can't, while Illegal are basically just bugged out. Would be cleaner if this ship destruction failed the mission in both cases.

i can add to salvage missions, that they behave the same if you sell the mission cargo at a black market instead of handing in.

Worth watching the first part of today stream with Dom - he talks about where missions are created in EDH/EDO. Not sure it works the way he says ...

(basically it uses the closest 20 Ly for missions + one of the yellow blocks of systems + Colonia, and in EDO one of the neighbouring yellows (shown in orange) and slightly larger.)
Colonia is top left, I missed it at first :)

Interesting, certainly fits with some observations

I'd assumed the Colonia sphere was 11 LY, not 12 LY - I was assuming if it was 12, Hephaestus would be included but isn't - but possibly the Colonia sphere isn't actually precisely centred on Colonia itself. There are certainly places a 12 LY sphere could be fitted that would include only the systems it does.
{Personally I'd like the Colonia sphere to be bigger, 20 LY would give a lot more variation in mission destinations locally - indeed, why not make it 50 LY and cover the entire region?}

From the perspective of Colonia, of course, one of those yellow bubbles should always be selected to give long-range missions back to the bubble (if at a Tourist settlement offering them). The question is, why do those missions only actually appear to yellow destinations - and I believe this is also true in the bubble? - on Thursday mornings shortly after the server restart?

That's what I see as well - it's very clear in EDO as the Restore Power missions are far more interesting. I'm going to take a look later and see if I can see any yellow/Orange targets, I don't think I will ...

Hmm, looks like I need to apologise to Dom - some of the sections (on the SHIP boards) do contain a mix of further away missions:

Dom made the point earlier on in the stream that the specific types can show more missions now, I had been wondering why the 'All' number didn't tie up with the sections:

I still don't see LEG missions > 20 Ly - though I'm pretty sure I have on Thursdays. Now I need to check some more boards :)

(These boards were in Yupini)

Megaship missions are generally the only ones with a range longer than 20LY, excluding those Thursday-tick missions.

Damn, I didn't see that stream, would've had a laundry list of questions XD Will have to watch after work...

EDIT: Did anyone take notes or have a quick summary of things?
