Modes Reworking the game modes

Robert, I don't like it.

I whish all in one.

Well sometimes I play Open, sometimes I play PG.

Want to know why I play PG? Sure you do.

My connection. Sometimes, when I play, my connection is trash. Me and one other person in an instance is (mostly) OK. More than that? Nope, not happening. Rubberbanding, latency and all manner of other issues.

Know what would happen if I didn't have the option of PG? Uninstall, and FDev would never get another dime out of me.

So, if you, and those who, like you, wish for the abolition of PG and Solo, ever get your way, I for one would be gone. Anyone who plays in PG or Solo exclusively because they despise PvP? Yeah, gone too most likely.

Most likely result: a hugely reduced revenue stream for FDev, and I expect they know that.

Open can be perfectly pleasant - it rather depends on who one encounters.

Give you joy, Robert Maynard.

Open would always welcome players like yourself, friendly, smart encounters. Caring players always are a benefit.
Antagonist add to the bargain.

I am helpless, but one off many

UmbraRex, we are movin, chances are good, one day the nets are faster getting folks togethers!

S!

SWG tried that, look how successful that has been... now it's gone.

That your plan? You don't like the game so suggest stuff to try and kill it?

I wish open to be removed and everyone play groups

Yep, thats the plan. Lets just kill it. By giving meaning to PVP over objectives like every other game out there. Overwatch, WoW, League of Legends, Dota, Counter Strike and more. All Objective based gameplay with a successful foundation. Doesnt matter the type of game. its all the same. PVP is meant for Objectives thats why you shoot each other.

Elite Dangerous whats it for? Being called a psychopath, Griefer, threatened to be doxxed. Yeah love that stuff.

Or, Keep it like it is now. And watch the game suffer and cry when people get BLOWD UP FOR NO RAISIN,

Maybe, with the 32 ships in the game, I rate some of them differently to you. That doesn't remove the point that there is just as many non-combat activities supported in game, as there are combat roles. I would consider that pretty significant. Calling it the primary activity is a personal point of view, not evidence that is what is intended. Again, we go back to the 'I have a Hammer' principle. There are just as many Bolts in this game as there are Nails. And I say this as a primarily combat focused Commander.

Sure there are plenty of other playstyles, I do not neglect that.

I state that combat is the most developed playstyle, providing players with the most options and approaches.
There is more variety to do combat in ED, than to do hauling, exploring or mining.
If that makes it the primary playstyle truly is debatable.

Why should players haul cargo in Open, just to provide targets for player pirates (that may not really be pirates)?
Exactly.
PG/Solo is the better choice for such activities.
Therefore the game modes are not equally valid.
Each modes favours a certain activity.

Frontier have given all players the choice to "neglect" direct PvP as a play-style - more specifically by not providing targets for those who prefer direct PvP.

Why should players that don't enjoy direct PvP be made to play among those who do - and, to add to the inconvenience, have to "hire" them as escorts (never mind how trustworthy the escorts may turn out to be)?

They shouldn't be forced to do so, but optimally it should provide an edge over a PG/solo hauler.
The risk and inconvenience should be balanced across the game modes otherwise they are not equally valid.

If direct PvP had meaning and reward, do you really expect those that don't like direct PvP to choose to play among those that do?

Yes, because it shifts the focus from a simple blowing stuff up towards blowing stuff up to achieve a certain goal.
A reason a lot of people don't enjoy direct PvP is because it's meaningless and in most cases does not provide any progress in the game, while also having a high potential of setting you back.
Change that and more people are interested.

Listen Folks, That90skid, I'll translate for your PVE convenience, ..... I am glad, really, smart folks filtered that one word out of the posting :p

We all love you!

Deliberately be more, later considering the massive problem we face; Consider this a place holder!

Cheers

God dam, I screwed up considerably ... tztz ...

Just to add another point:

Imagine having PvP scenarios, where you are required having different setups to achieve a goal.
Haulers to provide ammunition and repairs.
Tanky ships to hold the frontline.
Fighters to peel off attackers and attack themselves.
Support ships to keep everything together.
Scout ships to spot for objectives.

Stuff like that. The game has great potential for such things, but sadly has not utilized them yet.
That's why I am saying: 'pls FDev make this happen with Squadrons and don't just give us an alternative friends panel'

I am certain lots of people would enjoy this, including folks that currently never PvP.

Overwatch: PvP only
DOTA: PvP only
League of Legends: Grind to the top, then PvP only
Counter Strike: PvP only
WoW: PvE with PvP areas

There are no open world mixed PvP/PvE games on that list. Comparing ED to them is disingenuous.

But every one of them its used for objectives. There is not OPT out for convenience. It really doesnt matter the type of game or genre here.

Its simple Development .

And a reason no other games have done what Elite was trying to do successfully. It plain just does not work. And trust me, they are fully aware of that.

No thanks. I can do without gibberish translated into English by a non-English speaking player. Gibberish is as gibberish does.

Some want to experience the game content cooperatively without player-versus-player combat? You know, perhaps exploration, mining or other activities without having to go into Private Groups in order to do it?

I don't follow.
If you only want to PvE with a few friends, then obviously Group is the mode of choice.

You say "having to go into Private Groups" like it is something horrible :). But it isn't.
Many players are most likely to have a better connection in Group too, from what I heard.

If you play Overwatch, you are going in knowing you are playing against other players, and there is NO OTHER PURPOSE.
Same With DOTA.
Same with Counterstrike.
League of legends you grind to the top, so you can PvP.
WoW you can completely avoid PvP if you wish, stay out of the PvP areas.

Not a single one of those has an open world influenced by player actions.

In fact, aside from Minecraft, I can't think of a single game that comes even close to doing what ED does.

Comparing those games to ED is comparing Apples to Bananas
