QFT.Kyokushin you are wrong in about everything you say.
You tried a "mobile" VR solution, if it was the Oculus mobile solution you had a good impression of resolution and it should not have been a "bad experience".
However, every mobile solution completely lacks the position checking.
You basically had a DK1 experience (last generation) with high res screen.
In addition, what is your IPD ? If your IPD is more than 2-3mm off from 64.5mm or your eyes are too asymmetrical then you need a hardware modification to get proper 3d vision.
The "wow" does not come from resolution or image quality. If you did not feel a wow you had a bad experience (see above).
Wow comes from the brain being tricked to be somewhere else, you obviously did not feel that so something was wrong.
VR was never about image quality and for the next 5 years the quality of a screen will always be far superior to VR.
VR is about brain manipulation.
Having tried non-positional tracking VR and the DK2, if you aren't in a DK2 or better you aren't qualified to talk about VR.
Even with the resolution and SDE of the DK2, flying around, docking, and all of that in the type-6 with it's MASSIVE forward cockpit is phenominal.
The first time I tried it with the DK2 I spent a solid 30 minutes just looking around and admiring the view from within the cockpit.. Not even exaggerating that statement. I was in awe of the size of the cockpit, which is something you cannot properly experience without full 3D AND head tracking that lets you lean and look around things.
