Rift Higher Price than Expected? $600

Can't see why you folks are so shocked when they see the market place where people will pay £400 for a graphics card £2-3000 for a PC to have the latest bragging rights, in that market demographic - ie that they see as the addicted will pay any amount of money for anything that make them seriously cool then the Rift is just hopping on the Gravy train.

Once the Must Haves - have had it a while it'll drop in price especially once the competition launches a better higher spec product slightly cheaper.

Now if Apple were the company who were selling these and they were white I doubt an eyebrow would be raised.

I would just sit back and wait for competition to do its thing.

cant wait to see the tear down stats on it, to see what the components cost in total. think rift think there apple! with that pricing model, they just canned 95% of the market at that cost

Just pre-ordered mine. Was hoping for a $500 or lower price but not shocked at the $600 price point. I'd have rather paid less and not received the bundled games and controller since I already use an xbox 360 controller (not for elite though) and would be fine just buying Eve Valkyrie later if it ends up looking good. It's certainly high enough price to limit the number of sales, but I think they're ok with that and are playing the long game with a more affordable CV2 unit likely planned for next year after pascal cards drop and they can scale up manufacturing and work out any unanticipated issues with the CV1.

Was very surprised with that price but went ahead anyway. I missed out on the DK2 pre-order last time and spent months on the waiting list before I finally got one so I didn't want to make the same mistake again this time. Let's hope the money is worth it! After all, up until very recently, people were still buying used DK2 for $600+ so it's not the end of the world.

How smooth was your order? Have you gotten a confirmation email?

Im having lots of weird stuff happening...it says I still have a CV1 in my basket after several seemingly failed attempts to order, but now it wont let me try again as its says Ive preordered and there's only 1 per person, yet there's nothing in my recent orders list. What the hell?? :/

I made a new rig for this... £1800... sli gtx 970 x 2 16 gig ram I7 cpu ect ect Price in the usa £599 (or £410 sterling) Price for us in the UK £499 with shipping £530... mmmm ... ordered it but may will pull before shipping depending on other news and compatibility with ED

I've got a rig capable of running the Rift and I'm usually an early-adopter.

But not at that price.

$600 + tax + shipping? Not in this lifetime. I'll wait, thanks.

Fairly smooth actually. First 6 minutes were spent refreshing to get in. Then logged into my Oculus account and filled in my CC#. Took 5 tries at the "complete" button but then it confirmed. I've received a email saying my unitl will ship March 28th. Try just going to your basket and checking out. It might just not want to let you add more than 1 to the basket.

£499 in GBP

+ Shipping
+ Tax (VAT @ 20%)

Means it'll be around £625-650 to your door.

Still ordered one though. Love my DK2 and can't wait for better resolution. It's cheaper than my other option which was to go out and buy three decent gaming monitors. My monitor is cheap rubbish at the moment and VR is far more immersive than three screens anyway!

Well, after much deliberation I have decided to go ahead with the Pre-Order.
£529 inc shipping.

I have until April to decide whether to go through with it.

The price is a higher than I expected, but here's to hoping Oculus reduce the price before shipping.

I'm guessing the CV1 will be shipped from a UK distribution center, as shipping is only £30.

On the order page, when you switch to a UK address, the shop changes to "Oculus Ireland".

Just noticed the base price is $130 more for UK compared to US price! Absolutely shameless rip off.

US price = $600
UK price £500 ($730)

<ahem> Mr Luckey, going for Vive no matter the price now.

some good news for you in this vat of scat..... the cost includes all taxes at 529. they are shipped from uk

From the reviews I've read, the CV1 doesn't appear to be that much of an upgrade to my DK2.
They may have just put the first nail in the coffin of VR.
