Rift Higher Price than Expected? $600

I can't speak for Kerrash obviously, but for me, FPS are nausea enducing while strafing. I don't strafe very much in real life, and when I do it in an FPS, usually at several meters per second, my brain pages my inner ear and decides that it's time to go and find some alcohol or just give up entirely, which has a profoundly unpleasant effect.

If I'm "grounded" in the VR experience, in an aircraft/spaceship/car/rollercoaster etc, there's no nausea.

Interesting! The only instance that I saw people having any problem with was the rollercoaster one back in the dk1 days, when I was demoing it back in the day. I think that one was a mistake to release with the dk1.

Yes you're certainly not alone, FPS seems to be a stickler for people. Still it worries me a bit when I see people who havent tried any FPS's immediately think it will make them ill when they think about it conceptually and that puts them off trying one. I know I did. However the most popular games on Vorpx are all FPS like fallout and gta etc so Im also not alone in not having any issues and can enjoy them (a lot) and I hope there will be built for vr fps's in development that dont go down that lame road of warping from place to place instead of normal walk/run/sneak movements. I can quickly spin 180's or strafe and jump and have no problem at all.

By the way Im also getting an omni...looks like it might be landing about the same time as the HMD's which will be quite the party! Ive no real room for it though what was I thinking? I was in a bloody kickstarter VR frenzy at the time when I ordered. Guess that coffee table isnt really needed in the livingroom...

I just replied in another thread about something to with that. Like Slopey and Kerrash I too can't deal with FPS games. It's not just the strafing, it's the turning. As mentioned in the other thread playing the Gear VR (i.e. wireless) in a swivel chair helped fix this, but it's not going to work as long as wires are involved. And I'm in two minds there as I cannot be bothered dealing with batteries either! ;)

I agree that I hope they don't develop things only for those of us who suffer because that would indeed deny you lucky "non afflicted" from some great experiences. But by the same token I will be really jealous if the most awesome games end up being ones that make me vomit! :D

That seems to be the general case. Though I've been playing a lot of War Thunder lately, and whenever I go into a flat spin (I'm a terrible atmospheric pilot), I have to look down at my feet to keep from getting motion sick while I attempt to correct (conveniently, via rudder pedals).

I did see something in the Oculus subReddit about overlaying a nearly transparent grid at 4hz stopping a lot of people's motion sickness in FPS games.

Here is the Tested interview with Palmer Luckey at CES

Honestly finding it hard to imagine the Vive being cheaper than the Rift, as some are hoping. Assuming Mr Luckey isn't lying when he says they aren't making money on Rift units then the only way the Vive could be much cheaper if it was intentionally targeting the budget market and that doesn't seem to be the case. It's like when smart phones started to become main stream there were premium models by well known manufacturers (blackberry, nokia, apple) and low cost alternatives made of cheaper end parts took a while to hit the market.

If you are really expecting a $300 VR devices maybe you need to be looking at something like this

At this price (and i would need a new PC to go with it) I am tempted to just buy Sony VR for the PS4 we already have and buy the subsequent version when it comes out at presumably cheaper price points (for HMD + PC).

Especially because i would be waiting until June for Rift to arrive anyway - I expect sony will churn out production quickly once their HMD launches.

That case looks really nice....... But....

Surprised there is not room to put in the optional touch pack Inc camera... Unless that comes in an extra swish case
