Rift weird rhythmic stutter after 3.1.02

hello im getting a weird rhythmic stutter in my rift after the patch could be for several reasons it isn't consistent its more like im getting a drop in fps every 1/2 second last for a split second the image catches up. updated video drivers drivers and installed oculus 5.0.1 run time. reset video settings to default that didn't help ither. Was running smooth before the patch. problem doesn't seem present in the demo scene

anyone else having this problem or am i special..... again

I've been having some trouble with my Oculus camera in which the headtracking skips a bit or does weird zoom in/out things. Once it was all kinds of messed up and when I pressed escape to quit the game to try to fix it, the headtracking suddenly snapped back to acting like it should.

I think there are still a couple bugs to iron out of the new patch, and I think the Oculus camera is kind of flaky and needs some work. Hopefully that's fixed for the CV.

I spent an hour and a half last night with the same issue trying to figure out what is causing it. Monday night was perfect (I've just recently replaced my 770GTX with a 980GTX) before the patch rolled out.
Setting everything to low in game, still had the issue. I tried other Oculus demo's and games and it worked fine so it's definitely something in the latest ED update.

The game for me at the moment is just unplayable:
Video stuttering
Double scanning
Starting the game 1st time always get the 'Adjudication server' issue

I really wish we could roll back to pre PowerPlay update.

As a ED player with about 60 hours in the game with DK2 i can say that when i have solid 75fps, its like heaven. You really feel the prescence like you are there. I have that out in space and outside station. Howerever it drops when cruising by the planets and inside stations. I think oculus demanding 90fps in the future is to further avoid motion sickness for as many people as possible. But obvously its going to exteremely taxing on the computers and modern games. Hopefully they can solve it with a perfect crossfire or SLI solution, but where not ehere yet. Still DK2 in ED is a bliss when its all working at 75fps. It still have low res flaws and strain your eyes somewhat, but man, its really is a great expeience.

I few days ago i spent about 6h straight in the DK2 hauling cargo all around. And i didnt feel ill for one second. Just came out with a smile, and wanted more. Thats how good it can be :)

The biggest problem i have so far is the galaxy map and have to type in the name of a star i want to go to. I wishe they had some virtual keyboard inside the game so I wouldnt have to lift up the DK2 and type.

i have actually programed the alphabet into voice attack and can spell out the name of stars or stations in the galaxy map without the use of keys , hope this helps

I am getting a lot of stutter at the moment. I am running a GTX 980 with .50 runtime. current drivers etc.

1.3 has been a lot worse for me than 1.2. I drop a lot of frames near planets etc, and a populated system is a nightmare right now. 1.3.1 was no different, 1.3.2 made it worse. There is no way that elite should be running as badly on my system than it is right now, I have the best system consumer money can buy.

Hi,

First post and new user + new player.

i've had my oculus dk2 for 2 weeks now (absolutely loving it) for the first week i experienced judder with head tracking, it was really bad, if i didnt have judder i had ghosting where you move your head and you see 2 images real close together, it was all nasty stuff, i am using v6 of the dk2 software..

a funny thing happened and i do not know what fixed it for me, 2 things happened at the same to remove my judder and ghosting i do not know which it was or could be a combination of the 2, firstly my gtx 780 drivers updated from nvidia experience i also installed a program call core parking manager and set min core speed to 95% for all cores (i7 4770k not overclocked) i obviously run my oculus in extended mode.

in elite i have everything on ultra with absolutely no judder or ghosting, sometimes when the game first starts and im in a station docked for around 5 seconds when loading in i get a little judder but that is all, i havent any judder while playing since that day a week ago.. im pretty certain it was the core parking manager that fixed it for me.

1 thing to add is if i increase my texture thingy in settings to anything above 1.0 i get judder, however every other setting is on ultra or high and i must say this looks amazing!!! imma 40 year old player and this is the best game experience i have had in my life love it.. love space, love sims, love this game !!! my dk2 + x52 pro + voice attack... WOW...

one thing i would like fixed in the game is ... landing on astroids, not walking on them, just setting your ship down, whenever i try this my ship is nudged as it turns etc.. cant actually land on one.

see you on the dark side commanders!

Possible judder source in RES (with picture)

I made the following thread in the bug reporting section, the important thing is I want to see if other people are seeing the background particles being rotated 180 degrees like I do, as it might be a reason for a lot of lag in RES zones, as each eye is having to render the background rocks flipped upside down

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=156311

I lined up the rocks in the foreground and just have it swapping left to right eye. If you look at the group of rocks in the center of the image, that slightly poke up there is a group of about four, 3 dark one light, and you can see they are being rendered 180 degrees on each eye. as I look around, all of the background rocks are flipped 180 degrees. sometimes it takes a little bit to figure out how many rocks make up a grouping, but when you do, you will see them flip upside down

I've also noticed this occasionally, this sounds legit. I didn't know exactly what was wrong with the background rocks though, they just looked wrong

Yes, In the past, I've seen this randomly, but fairly infrequently. That said, I don't think I've seen it since 1.3. I'll pay attention for it, and see if it comes up again. GTX 970.

yeah I noticed that same thing about 3 days ago. everything was good in the RES until BAM!...tons of judder. I started looking around for tons of npc's or other players and thats when i noticed the "background" rocks looked like they were being rendered in 3D but the divergence was way off.

1.3.05 Judder in Rift DK2

I suddenly can't get 75 fps in the game since either 1.3.04 or 1.3.05.

Any other rifter this happened to?

Used to run 4K Nvidia supersamling, Oculus Quality slider to 0%. Settings on High. No AA. Vsync Adaptive in Nvidia. Worked like a charm. Now it's not possible. Even with default settings, extreme judder. Using Nvidia GTX 980, 5820K. Did something break with an update?

Frontier Logo was pixelated as if affected by Oculus slider. Never had that happen before. Wondering if I messed something up before posting as bug so I thought another Elite Rift DK2 user could try first.

no problem with mine , just the same as before . try updating firmware if you not already done it .

There's a new firmware?

I'm on 0.5.0.1 with HMD firmware 2.12 and Tracker firmware 0.0.0.1. Please compare...

The thing is I haven't made any changes to anything regarding display settings since it worked fine in 1.3.03. I just tried going back to 1920x1080, no supersampling, graphics preset low and it is still terrible. Far from 75 fps. Something must have happened, question is if it's Elite or something in my computer.

For me smooth like butter now. Try reinstalling your drivers. First uninstall the oculus, then the nv, restart, install nv, reinstall oculusbut leave it turned off, restart, fire up your hmd and the config tool for your settings and check functonality, restart last time, have phun.

The oculus slider is, IMO, the exact opposite of supersampling (SS). When I moved it lightly to the left at the beginning of my tests I found a variable in one of the config files (sorry can't remember which and where) saying something like : oculuspixel=0.8524354 which mean to me undersampling, oculuspixel 1.0 meaning slider all to the right meaning 1:1 (one game pixel = one oculus pixel). So if you have this slider at 0 and set SS 4K the quality depends in which order those are managed (still IMO). Let'say slider first then SS, that will destroy the quality (slider at 0), and then that will expand this destroyed picture to 4K. Then if dev manage the other way, that will expand the 1:1 image, so better quality, and then the slider will destroy the other way, so you fall back somewhere around 1:1 (slider all to the right and no SS) depending both values. That's my dev opinion, I can be fully wrong here, but perhaps they simply change when (and possibly how) they manage the slider... Mine is full right and no SS. Slightly SS make me lose my 75 fps, and moving slightly slider to the left destroy immediately graphic quality and font. Could be wrong, just my experience with those settings so far...

Edit: saying that, I also have a downgrade on FPS and more stutter starting with 1.3.4...

i think performance is slightly worse in 1.3.0.5

i mention this because in 3 and 4 i was experimenting with two setups:

1/ Oculus quality at full in game SS x1.0

2/ Oculus quality at zero and in game SS x 2.0

In 1.3.0.3 and 1.3.0.4 i had almost exactly the same fps impact on both setups.

In 1.3.0.5 i get a performance hit of about 8 - 10 fps if i choose 2/

Doesnt bother me because the biggest and still unresolved problem is the decimation of FPS when in SC and it doesnt seem to matter how many ships or objects are arouns OR how low you make your graphics settings...

This imo is a bug FD need to look at. My fps hits a real low of 49.9 sometimes in SC. Outside of that i get easily 100 - 160 fps (exception being RES sites = 60 - 90 depends on how many ships)
