Heavy judder in RES sites - yes or no

I think it's related to the network code. I am getting judder in supercruise in systems where it's very busy with players. I did not have this problem before, but since the release the number of players has increased and judder appears in supercruise.
Agreed about the network code; if I visit a "juddery" area in Solo mode, it's smooth as silk.

I had created a thread about some issues I was seeing in the game, one being with fps drops in SC, just as the OP is seeing, I thought it was a netcode or possible CPU bottleneck issue I was seeing, due to the same symptoms as the OP, but then upgraded my 280x to a 970 and I can have 20+ NPCs and players in SC without any fps drops (do see other fps drops in the game still, but rare).

So for me, increasing GPU power solved the issue, although OPs issue may be caused by something else.

Supercruise is bugged. It only happenes is some systems. Especially in big systems where multiple orbits come together i get judder. I got a R9 290 running at 1150 mhz and an i7 3770k running at 4.7ghz and it judders. In normal space, hyperspace i get solid 75 FPS.

I allready created a ticket and i suggest you do so too.
I had no supercruise judder in gamma btw.

I'm getting judder the very moment I select to go in to SC. Once in SC thought it's all pretty smooth. All other instances are smooth too.

The only time I get it is literally for a few seconds when selecting SC.

Oh...going to the galaxy or the system map also causes the screen to hang (tracking stops) for a few seconds.

I would recommend trying to setting your Windows Power Settings to "High Performance" (and double checking the that Minimum and Maximum Processor State under Processor Power Management is both 100%). This will force the CPU to not throttle down and happens to kick my 3930K into 4.4Ghz (OC)Turbo instead of letting it auto idle and hover around the 2.5Ghz mark. It usually helps net me an extra 10-20% performance in games that use the Rift like Elite and Euro Truck Sim, and a few that don't like World of Tanks.

Once I do this, make sure my 780's are both Overclocked with in sync clock speeds, and no web browser window is open (can pull the GPU's down if there is a video in any tab) then the game runs 99% smooth the entire time maxed out.

Yep same. GTX970 here, game maxed out, using EVGA PrecisionX frame limiter to 80 (no reason to go above, making my system cooler and mroe silent this way), and it's always 80 FPS, only goes down when launching SC, Hyperspace jump or sometimes when approaching a very populated station.

Dual 970's and I still get horrible judder in super cruise and occasionally in spaceports. I'm guessing it's a software issue. Some days I don't feel like wearing the rift and still get studder on the monitor pushing about 200fps.

200FPS? Do you have vsync off? That needs to be on for the Rift to work correctly currently. It needs to lock at 75FPS.

(And it has to be vSync, not Frame Rate Limit in the graphics option).

*Edit, I see you say monitor, I'd still like to verify you have vsync on with the Rift. And have you tried setting power profile to high performance?

Yea it happens on mine as well occasionally. I put the blame on the Instance Loading/Connection Data Update or whatever happening in the back end. In Alpha/Beta I noticed it a lot watching my network usage change when I had someone enter/exit my instance, and when I was flying alone. I could easily tell when that transition happened.

Besides that, the game will only continue to get better and a few small hitches here and there don't really destroy the experience. Like I said it is 99% smooth for me during a session in Space.

Supercruise judder is not GPU dependant

I just tried this:
All settings to low and oculus quality to lowest (it is a mess to look at but i thought i turn everything down).
Same judder in supercruise (not all systems but some).

The game runs at constant 75 everywhere else but supercruise.
At first i thought it is my GPU - thought i buy a gtx 980 but now i wont.

My system: Intel i7 3770k @ 4.7ghz
16 gigs RAM
AMD R9 290 running at 1150mhz
All watercooled and 100% stable.

This supercruise judder is in since release - was not present in beta.

Anyone else getting this?

yes we all get that
I expect Frontier will fix it sooner or later. we just have to wait for that.
But you're right. I rather have no image at all during hyper jump then the current one.

Its massively better for me with the new (yesterday) Nvidia driver that has been optimised for ED. I was using the Beta version for a week and had to download the non Beta afresh as Geforce was telling me I was up to date (and I wasnt). I had no improvement with the Beta version but all is much better now.

I showed ED off to some of the family over Xmas - but on a monitor so they could all see it.

Single monitor, 1920 * 1020 res and 970 SLI and I STILL got stutter when I went to (and was in) warp.....

Must be a game thing.....

Nosh

Suddenly started to lag.

Hey,
So I have an i5 4670k and a gtx 770. I run the game on ultra and have no problems, constant 60 fps. Today I did a 150k Ls journey and about halfways I went from 60fps to 30. I eventually went down to 15fps. I landed, restarted the game and barely get 40fps whilst docked. Any help? Thanks!

Let's talk Gaming Rigs, DK2 Judder, what plays smoothly, & where VR + ED is going

First off, this is a phenomenal, helpful, and mature forum gaming community. Loving the game and loving the DK2 ED experience.

Lets put our heads together, share what we are running as our gaming rigs, and discuss the parts of the game that are working well (and those that aren't so swell) with our Virtual Reality Experience. Basically, I'd like an open forum where we can talk and compare SPECIFIC settings with Nvidia, Comps, Graphics, DK2, in game settings etc. Hopefully it will be helpful for many of us. I propose we simply share our RIG, Settings, and EXPERIENCE ...and help each other in between.

MY STORY -

RIG ---- I recently went and had FRY'S Electronics in California build me a fairly strong brand new gaming comp. Factory Superclocked Gforce 980 gtx, Intel Core i7 4790k 4.00ghz cpu, Win 8.1, 1 TB SSD drive, 16 GB ram (should I have gotten more?), ASUS board. Not SLI 980's or the best set up out there, but a top tier rig from most people's perspective. Tests on the super clocked 980gtx show it as quite in contention for strongest single card...if not the top. HOTAS flight X52. Every game I run EXCEPT ED is at full ultra

SETTINGS -- 2560x1440 super sampling enabled which is almost a must, in game settings at low, oculus slider in game all the way up, and almost all of my Nvidia 3d settings in the Nvidia utility at OFF or LOW to help performance (triple buffering on because someone somewhere here said to do that).

EXPERIENCE --- It took quite a few hours to both learn my DK2, Elite Dangerous, and HOTAS. The game works perfectly smooth for me in flight, combat, etc. 95% Judder free in stations. 80% Judder free in supercruise. I get a TON of Judder only in asteroid belts at those extraction sites with npcs around in the rings of those ring planets. Other than that, I also get horrible Judder in the galaxy menu when super sampling, but when NOT supersampling galaxy map is perfectly judder free. All in all, 80% a smooth experience just wish I could solve that judder and eventually turn up graphics beyond low. Thoughts?!

Let's hear your RIG, Settings, and Experience !

I've read in another thread that turning off or unplugging your monitor improves performance quite a bit. I'm still waiting for my rift and 980 so can you give that a try and report back? And also how does the game look at low graphics settings? Is it drastically worse than high?

Thanks

I don't seem to notice much different when turning it on and off. It proves quite difficult to see through the rift when it is the only display. it gives a weird affect. How do the people around here do that by the way and still navigate the desktop?

no, on low graphics it doesnt make MUCH of a difference in the rift BUT supersampling the resolution up as I mentioned in my main post DOES.!

on a GTX 980
I currently run 1.2x DSR and most settings maxed out, including SMAA on top of the DSR.
Shadows turned off, reflections LOW, of course blur and bloom off, galaxy map to medium

I get consistent 90 FPS inside stations, galaxy map is 75+ as well, outside stations 90+
I have 1 second judder/lag whenever I kill an enemy. That's a bug I guess as FPS drops from 120+ to < 75 for a sec

It is possible to increase the DSR to 1.5 with only minimal graphical advantages.

A big MUST NOT is borderless mode. FPS stays high but still judder. It seems like the low persistance modes of oculus only work in full screen (for me)

Edited *** ok I found the DSR in Nvidia's control panel. Why do it THAT way instead of just manually up to the 2550 x 1440 or whatever most people on here are posting they used. Because it isn't quite as hard on your peformance?

Also, for the SMAA are you turning all that on in Nvidia control panel and then ALSO in game? how should I set that up to mimic what you did? Lastly, do you get judder in extraction site meteroite zones? sounds like you don't get judder anywhere?!
