Methink we missing some options ??????

Still a lot of unknowns out there, too many possible scenarios, this calls for a vast range of weapons from plasma weapons to sharp sticks ;)

I think also "Scottish Attitude" should also be classed as a side-arm, never under-estimate the will to smash anything which even looks at you the wrong way hahahaha.

If my ship has to be able to weather rail guns and multi-cannons, I'm pretty sure my .40 cal. won't be a big issue if I end up missing. ( I don't miss that often either).

With my failing eyesight and my poor reaction times I can't be sure that my bullets will end up wedged in the flesh of my opponent.

There is also the problem of the spent casings and blood and bone fragments floating about in microgravity. That stuff can end up in the electronics of my ship.

In a period of time where production of lasers on ships seems common, I find if surprising that the poor would own traditional bullet-based weapons. I would have thought that the cost of manufacturing bullets and the upkeep of the weapon would make them more expensive than their laser variant.

You have to remember that while CMDRs are all able to afford laser weaponry, that's basically because they're loaded with cash compared to the average citizen of the galaxy, who probably only has a few hundred credits at the most.

With this in mind, they're likely only able to afford ancient technology.

This is based upon the information Drew gave me.

Kind of feel this is more off-topic discussion than anything relating to XBone, but to answer the question...

Lazors. Come on, it's the serious choice. Who doesn't want to incinerate thy enemy instantly?

Me, some people deserve to suffer before they die.......hmmm that's a little dark for this time of day......

You know what, it's a valid point.

So what we have to do is establish how the lazors work. Are they insta-incineration of the whole body? No inceration but insta-death a bit like a Dalek attack? Or does a quick beam attack allow us to remove, say, the entire leg but cauterising the wound and leaving the rest intact for later?

This needs clarifying, FD.

'Tis a bit of fun. :)

I'm not convinced. Thats like saying that poor people living in the ghetto can only afford swords and longbows, and only the richest can afford a glock. Just doesn't happen. Technology like laser sidearms, after a decade or two let alone a thousand years or however long it has been around, would become cost-effective enough to manufacture that it would be affordable to almost anybody. Obsolete weaponry like difficult to make and maintain kinetic weapons would become more expensive as the manufacturing facilities turn to the more cost-effective laser weaponry and the expertise in making them becomes more specialised. Its like the cost difference between an original model ford, or classic Jag, and a nearly new Volkswagen Polo.

Like I said I'm basing this off what Drew Wager told me. :/

How about a GyroJet weapon, with the accuracy issues resolved?

Talking about weaponry costs, I remember reading John Brunners' book "The Jagged Orbit", where weapons salesmen basically fuelled their customers' paranoia. Eventually the arms companies came up with a weapon that could almost win a war in its' own right. It was, however, very expensive, so only extremely wealthy people could afford it. In self defence if a region found that there was an individual in the area who could afford this system he/she was annihilated before they placed an order for it.

I would uses a weapon like in Mass Effect, essentially a railgun that fires a tiny slug shaved off a tungsten block held internally. Due to the ludicrous speed of the projectile generating alot of heat it needs disposable heat sinks to maintain a constant volume of fire.
